[VIDEOS] Players fasting while playing cricket

Why are some mixing sports and religion? Players are allowed to make up their fasts at someother point anyway so stop embarassing them with this stupid logic

Its hard to generalise but playing whilst keeping fasts in most cases is going to have a negative effect on performance - its a fact

So why harp on about it If religion and lack of following islam is the reason for lack performance The western white countries would never have won anything in any sport

Please educate yourself regarding islam. If you deliberately miss a fast without a valid excuse the compensation you have to give is not the same as you missing it with a valid reason.
You can't just miss a fast and then make it up after Ramadan. There's a high chance it won't be accepted.

This molvi is loved by Sunni Shia and all. His speech on GTV regarding moon sighting was the best on that topic.

Players are on Safar but openly eating/drinking is against the sanctity on Ramadhan. They will be the first to admit

Openly eating and posing is very disrespectful brother, they are ambassadors of brotherhood :moyo

What if you were going to Pakistan for 2 weeks. You arrive in Karachi the first day. Two days later you have to take the bus or fly to Multan. Next you go to Lahore, then Islamabad, and so on continuously while you were there. Would you consider yourself a traveler most of that time? There is a certain amount of distance you have to travel for yourself to be considered a traveler and cross-country travel will surely fit that description!

You remain a traveler as long as you dont intend to stay in that city and within approx 50 miles of its boundary for over 15 days. The key here is intention and potentially one could have intention to stay 14 days but on 13th day for some reason had to delay their departure by another 14 days they will still remain traveller.

It's not about whether it feels right or doesnt feel right. The dispensation is there and nothing wrong with availing it. With the amount of travel with world cup between cities I am sure they will not be staying inn a city for over 15 days and hence could be traveler throughout.

Sarfraz was fasting brother :amla

Inshallah tomorrow Real Pakistan will turn up and it will bleed green

Good excuse!!!!! After they will be murdered by Eng they will say we were fasting so we cannot play well.
After that "Too many bouncer"
"We were unlucky"
"We didn't give 100%".....

Brother, It depends on how much strong faith one has on Allah SWT. Allah SWT helps His creation whenever he or she tries to please Him. Medical science may contradict it but the creator of science when helps it goes beyond science. Hashim Amla has a triple century in tests while fasting and he said that he feels fitter while fasting. I am not saying that without fasting a player can't perform but did u see any sign of of unfitness in Miraz ,Mushfique and Mahmudullah yesterday? Infact they we're the best performers. May Allah SWT shower His blessing on players who are fasting in this WC.

I don't think anybody in management is compelling any player to fast. It is the believe inside that makes one fast even in hard conditions. But one cannot give excuse to our Lord that just for sport one hasn't fast in this month of Ramadaan

3 Muslim countries are playing in this WC and there are some Muslims in other teams too. Why the cricket boards didn't urge the ICC to start this tournament after 7th June so that every Muslim player could do fasting easily ?

Because they are not India and recovery from IPL is more important than fasting etc - which is considered a personal matter.

If they wanna fast then they should withdraw their participation from World cup. ICC and the world has nothing to do with any teams personal beliefs.

But we can arrange World Cup according to iPL fixtures? What dumb logic is this

IPL generates revenue for BCCI which indirectly helps ICC as well. Does ramzan break generates revenue for ICC or any islamic board? Its your logic which is dumb and and doesn't reflect reality.

Exactly. ICC have so much things to bear in mind when making schedules, ramadan is not important at all when it come to this.

Musfiq, Miraz, Riyad

Early day time (10:30am) match against SA. Played their hearts out. They were fasting. May Allah Subhana watala accept their fasting.

I think your the one that needs educating They have a valid reason They are sportsmen and it is their job to be at optimum fitness and performamce levels

Its a tough physical job which isnt possible whilst fasting in uk where fasts can last 20 hours a aday
hence they are allowed to make up fasts at a later time without being judge by the molvi crew

It is not possible to fast whilst playing any energy consuming Sport. Certain people are exempt from fasting, don't know if sports people fall in to that category.

Stuff like this seems ridiculous:

Like many professional soccer players, Mohamad breaks his fasting on match days in accordance with a previous ruling that allows food and drink during travel.

"In practice that means that on Saturday morning, we'll drive several kilometers down the motorway," said Marcus Rauert, FC Cologne's team manager. "That makes Youssef a traveler, and then he is allowed to eat and drink all day long."

Got to give to Cricketers who fast and still play at highest level. Their stamina surely is praiseworthy.

Schedules are set several years in advance.

We don’t know when eid is since every month could end on different days

Whilst travelling, it is a personal choice whether to fast or not. If the fast is broken/not performed at all, it can be validly made up once the travelling has concluded. There are formal allowances for this in the religion, so what’s the issue either way?

The issue is there are unfortunately a lot of muslims with a holier than thou attitude when it comes to religion They may commit hundreds of sins themselves but when it comes to others they suddenly become righteous and moral leaders

I guess preaching others and making them to be sinners makes them feel better about themselves and the sins they commit

And was I fasting during the match? I have played cricket while fasting during Ramadan previously but for the start of this World Cup and the series against Pakistan beforehand I have kept it to training days and days off.

You have dispensation to pause when you are travelling and I have taken up this option on match days. Even fasting on training days takes it out of you and so I think it was the sensible move. It means I have around seven days of fasting to make up now and I will be doing so over the coming weeks.

Mickey Arthur speaking in an in interview

"I think the key was getting into another culture. I was blown away by the morals and values. The culture was just so pure, so good. Ramadan is a very, very important time in the Muslim faith. Watching the players, because we played quality cricket during Ramadan, incidentally, we were always very successful"

"We won the Champions trophy during Ramadan; we won a Test match at Lords during Ramadan. What stood out for me was the player's commitment to their faith and Ramadan. It was very interesting to see, also very, very stimulating just watching how the players adapted to that; it was amazing"

I personally find it incredibly impressive how people can play elite sport while fasting. I even remember the stories of Benzema breaking his fast mid-UCL match. Very admirable, requires even more fitness and discipline than normal.

The games will be day night therefore i am assuming the players would have had their Iftari by then.

Sharjah is a conservative Emirate.

They will never allow players drinking during play time, so yes match starts after iftar

Shadab Khan when asked about playing during Ramadan

"As professionals we need to make sure that our recovery is good because to play a match after a full day's fasting will be a little difficult, but we will need to take care of that as professionals."
