[VIDEOS] Sarfaraz Khan - Another batting talent from India

Rajat Patidar replaced Rahul instead of him. How unfortunate this Sarfaraz guy is. Tried and cried hard for his call-up, and now gets a call finally and he missed out again. Should have been there.
He'll be in the Team very soon. He deserves it more than any other young player.

Yea, The time has come to finally try him. Kohli is not there, gill is out of form, so why not try him? He was Scoring heavily in the domestics.

YES1 Also, he needs to realize that he needs to lose weight if he wants to improve himself. This is not the 90's anymore. Doesn't matter how good you are for your age, there is still room for improvement.

Sarfaraz Khan set to get Test cap at Rajkot, another debutant also expected to be in playing XI

After averaging over 100 for three successive domestic seasons, Sarfaraz Khan is all set to get a Test cap. With middle-order mainstay KL Rahul failing to clear the fitness test, the Mumbai batsman is expected to be in the playing XI for the third Test at Rajkot.

His fielding fitness was really poor. He couldn't start chasing the ball immediately. He couldn't run fast on the field. I wonder if it will impact his batting as well since fielding itself seems to be a major chore for him.

His career will be short lived I feel. He does not seem to be anything special. As you have mentioned, he is fat and there will always be questions on his fitness.

But he deserves his chance for scoring bucket loads of runs in domestics. Not much hope from this debut.

No question about deserving. But youngsters should be fielding better than seniors should be more agile. His take off from the fielding position is very slow for a 25 year old. He couldn't have had a better series to start against. Definitely there will be issues about gelling with new team. He has to adapt very quickly. He scores fairly quickly which suggests he will try to feel the ball more.

A very emotional morning for Sarfaraz Khan who is making his debut today.

He has a first-class batting average of 69.85... that should be fun to watch.

A fifty on Test debut in just 48 balls in third Test against England- what a knock by Sarfaraz Khan, he's the star in the making.

These are the moments that make all the hardships worthwhile.

He is currently batting at 57*(56)

Maybe he will turn out like VVS Laxman - a bit late blossom. A good solid No.5/6 batsman we are looking for long!

Bunch of clowns

Twice put his wicket on the line for Jadeja’s hundred.

Robbed from a debut hundred and cementing his spot for a long time

Looks good against the slow bowlers but suspect against the quicks, will struggle on bouncy wickets.

Also really need to watch his fitness, that stomach is pretty big, needs to calm down on the biriyanis if he wants to have a good, long career.

Great 1st innings and good start to his test career, well done to the young man.

Feel terrible for Sarfaraz Khan! Looked like he would surely get the big one on debut. What an entertaining innings until that very unfortunate run out.

Always brilliant innings on debut 62(66)

After the end of Day 1 of the third Test between India and England, while speaking to the local media channel, Anil Kumble said:

"Sarfaraz was dominating in that partnership. Jadeja, I thought had got into a shell, that sometimes creates a mindset where you are not clear about the decision making. And maybe that was one of the reasons and possibly I passed on my bad luck of getting run out on debut because I got run out on my debut. But at least he got 65 (Sarfaraz scored 62) more."

Although he has been in form of his life in domestics and had a decent debut in Tests today.

But he has to work on his physique and fitness. How can you be fat being a professional athlete? Thats one of your key job responsibilities to keep working on your body.

I don't care even if he is second coming of Viv or Sachin. But if Sarfaraz does not reduce fat and improve his fitness, he can't continue for national team personally for me.

It'll create a culture of fat, lazy cricketers just like Misbah opened a door for tuktukness in Pakistan. We don't want that, do we?

Rohit is not exactly fitness guru. His brother looks alright. Nothing like him. Now that he is part of the INdian XI he can draw inspiration from others. But at the end of the day runs matter. Gill has six pack. But his technique has massive hole.

Good innings from Sarfraz, unfortunate that he missed his debut century. We can't get carried away with the performance on flat pitches. His technique and temperament will be tested in tougher conditions. Hopefully, he will live up to expectations.

Credit to the man for his attacking 50. He will play the rest of the series for sure. He could have easily gotten a debut 100. Unfortunate for him.

KL Rahul will replace Patidar for the next Test.

Jadeja always becomes ultra selfish when reaching a milestone. Just my observation. He becomes over defensive in 90's and then tries risky singles without a care for the non-striker.

Sarfaraz Khan joined the ranks of Hardik Pandya as the joint-second fastest Indian batsman to reach a half-century on his Test debut.

Hardik had previously achieved this feat in 48

balls during his debut against Sri Lanka in 2017. Sarfaraz and Pandya trail only behind former India cricketer Yadavenadrasingh (Yuvraj of Patiala), who accomplished a half-century in his first and last Test in a mere 42 deliveries in 1934.

Impressive debut so far.

He should be a regular in my opinion (based on his FC record).

Sarfaraz Khan said in the post-match conference at the end of Day 1 of 3rd Test against England:

"At times there is miscommunication, and it is a part of the game. Sometimes you get run out. Such kind of things happen."

"I talked to him at lunch time. I am that type of batter who like to talk while batting about what is going on. So, I told Jadeja to keep talking to me while I bat. He supported me a lot today and spoke to me at lunchtime."

"He told me how the debutants feel and how he felt as a debutant. I was a bit nervous, especially when I played my first sweep and missed it. But he told me to take some time and it would be easy. I listened to him and tried implementing it."

Rohit has not been very athletic throughout his career but he used to be a safe fielder or runner. He is carrying a belly from last 3-4 years but he is at fag end of his career.

Sarfaraz has just started. Imagine him involved in run outs, misfields or crucial catch drops with that big belly. What good runs will be if he drops a catch because he couldn't move or dive as fast as he should have.

Gill is having a lean patch but he'll come through. He has already played some valuable innings on difficult wickets.

I was wrong to judge him based on his IPL stint at RCB.

Played spin the way it should be unlike the fake best player of spin, Shreyas.

Too bad selfish Jadeja once again cost a teammate.

Loved Rohit throwing his cap in disgust and refusing to be present when the selfish one reached his selfish hundred.

jadeja is such a typical selfish, statpadding loser.

typical indian player who only cares about himself and has many glaring weaknesses.

He has this vibe of mahoosiyat about him

Looked really good against the spin,he didn't go into his shell. Let's see if he handle pace, if he can,Ind have a real talent on their hands

Always been like that, has been involved in many many infamous runouts and each time his selfishness comes to the fore.

Rohit Sharma in a conversation with Sarfaraz Khan's father:

"Everyone knows what you have done for him"

Other is another mental midget. Worse than kl Rahul. He will not play this series again. Sarfraz took his place convincingly.

Sarfaraz was playing nicely but unfortunately he got run out. He would have scored a century for sure.

When india needed him the most, sarfaraz has failed to step up and is gone now for 14 runs in the 4th test match of the series. tom hartley got him.

He is new to TEST cricket, you need time to adjust. What should worry Indian fans is how a player like him got selected. When you select overweight players, you send the wrong message. Same Pak did with Azam Khan, how can you select such players, with poor fitness levels.

Sarfraz first class strike rate is 70. He doesn't play like this. I think team management probably asked him to hold one end for Jaiswal. That stifled his natural game and he created so much pressure on himself.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, speaking in an interview to local sports media:

“Sarfaraz is more of a Test player. T20 cricket is a different format. He has scored a lot of runs in the Ranji Trophy. If you score runs, it doesn’t go waste and that’s what has happened to Sarfaraz."

You cannot judge a player after every test. He seems to be a good fit for India on Indian pitches. We have to wait and see how he performs overseas. Only time will tell.

He plays spin well. So good choice to have in Indian conditions.

3 out of 4 guys we tried have impressed - Jurel , Akashdeep , Sarfaraz.

Patidar was the only one who got out without even trying to impose himself on the bowler.

Also I think he is already 30.

Good series in terms of identifying and building bench strength. Kohli won't be missed on Indian pitches at atleast considering his his spin playing ability has declined over the last 4 years.

Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar expressed dissatisfaction with Sarfaraz Khan's attempt, stating during commentary:

"The ball was pitched up; it wasn't short enough for that shot. Goes for it and pays the price. I mean, you are playing the first ball after tea. Give yourself a little sighter. Don Bradman said to me, 'Every ball that I face, even if I am on 200, I think I am on 0.' And here is [Sarfaraz]... playing such a shot first ball of the session."

"My Name Is Not In IPL. My Father Tells Me...": Sarfaraz Khan's Brother Musheer Bares His Heart

An IPL contract might be on top of cricketers' bucket list, but Mumbai's teenaged Ranji Trophy hero Musheer Khan is happy that he went unsold during last year's player auction because it gives him some more time to "understand" the T20 format. The 19-year-old, who became the youngest Mumbai batter to score a hundred in a Ranji final eclipsing the mark of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, was confident of making his mark in the IPL in due course.

"My name is not in the IPL. But I don't feel disappointed. My father tells me to play Test cricket and play for Team India. IPL will eventually happen, if not today then tomorrow," Musheer told PTI Video recalling the words of his father and formative coach Naushad.

"It's good that I got another year to prepare for the IPL. I will understand T20 cricket more, and how I should prepare for this format," said Musheer, who has so far played just five First-Class matches.

Musheer embossed his name on the Ranji final against Vidarbha recently with a 136 in the second innings that helped Mumbai set a massive target of 538. It eventually helped Mumbai land their record-extending 42nd title in the Ranji Trophy.

Understandably, Musheer drew inspiration from his elder brother Sarfaraz, who made his India debut in the third Test against England at Rajkot last month.

"I am really inspired by my brother because of his dedication and the way he bats. Our batting style is similar. He told me before the game (Ranji final) to think of it as a normal match and not to take too much pressure." "From outside, it may feel like a normal match but on the field, we feel pressure on the field. He told me to back my skills and follow the process," he added.

Musheer, who was also the leading run-scorer in the ICC Under-19 World Cup earlier this year including two hundreds, was quite chuffed after Mumbai's Ranji Trophy triumph after a gap of eight years.

"It's a matter of pride that we have amassed 42 titles. Many great players have played here (for Mumbai). I feel very proud that I have played for Mumbai and won a championship.

"I also want to thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and congratulate them because they have provided us with a lot of support. I hope they continue to back us in the same way," he said.

The elegant right-hander lauded veteran pacer Dhawal Kulkarni, who retired after the Ranji Trophy final.

"The support he has given to Mumbai cricket, the things he has done for Mumbai, it's incredible. The speech he gave ahead of the final was a real motivation for all of us.

"It was his last match. We were emotional and we wanted to win the trophy as a gift to Dhawal bhai. We wanted him to leave happily. He took the last wicket (of Vidarbha) of the match and everything came out perfectly," he noted.

I don't think any under 19 cricketer excelling or infact getting picked for ipl immediately after the wc.Jaiswal, kohli too took few seasons to pick up.For greater good, I think he should play test matches till next year to fix any technical issues. Otherwise ipl may make or break u.Even sarfaraz was bullied by Mark wood in ipl and it created enough doubts among all about his capacity to survive against express pace

Sarfaraz Khan is preparing for the Bangladesh Tests, knowing that despite his strong first-class record, his spot in the playing XI isn’t guaranteed with the return of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, he told while speaking to a local media outlet:

“I have zero expectations… But I’ll be ready if the opportunity arises. That is what I’ve been doing all along and I don’t see any reason to change that.”

“Some get a break very soon in their career. Some have to wait. In my case, I’m fortunate that it took time because I got to spend a lot of time in domestic cricket and that grind helped me become a better batsman. When I made my debut, for the first three deliveries I was nervous. But after that, I was in control. Whatever I used to do at the domestic level, I was doing the same in Test cricket. I was very clear in my mind. I wasn’t looking at the opposition or the bowler.”

“I’m not looking at the Bangladesh series. But I’ve to follow the process and be ready. This is very important for me. I’ve not had this level of practice in Mumbai because of the rains.”

Sarfaraz Khan likely to be released from India's Test squad for Irani Cup

Ajinkya Rahane is all set to lead Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai in the upcoming Irani Cup game against Rest of India in Lucknow, which will also mark all-rounder Shardul Thakur's return to first-class cricket post surgery.

It is understood that all top players including Shreyas Iyer, Musheer Khan, Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian are supposed to play the match.

However, as of now, there is no clarity about whether Sarfaraz Khan, who is in the India squad, will be picked for the tie. The Kanpur Test against Bangladesh starts on September 27 and if Sarfaraz is not picked in the playing eleven, which could be the case, Mumbai Cricket Association might put in a request to let their premier batter play the Irani Cup.

The team will be announced tomorrow.

"Look, Sarfaraz is the only specialist middle-order batter in the squad. Dhruv Jurel is a keeper-batsman and Axar Patel is an all-rounder. What if there is a need for a concussion substitute? But yes, the Irani Cup starts on October 1 and travelling from Kanpur to Lucknow even on September 30 won't be a big deal if the Test match ends early," a BCCI source told PTI.

It is understood that Suryakumar Yadav, who is India's T20 skipper, and all-rounder Shivam Dube, both of whom are automatic picks in the Indian T20 squad, won't be playing the Irani Cup as they would have to report in Gwalior on October 3 for the T20I series starting October 6.

Fourth First-Class double hundred for Sarfaraz Khan. He is only the 11th batter to record a double century in the Irani Cup.

Sarfaraz Khan Achieves Historic First In Indian Cricket. Not Even Sachin Tendulkar Or Sunil Gavaskar Attained It

The legend of Sarfaraz Khan as a domestic doyen is growing from strength to strength as his authoritative double hundred for Mumbai not only put Rest of India under immediate pressure in the ongoing Irani Cup but will also keep the seasoned KL Rahul on toes when the Indian team embarks on the Test tour of Australia next month. Sarfaraz (221 batting, 276 balls) became the first ever cricketer to score an Irani Cup double hundred for Mumbai, with the 42-time champions reaching 536 for 9 at the end of the second day.

Wasim Jaffer (Vidarbha), Ravi Shastri, Praveen Amre and Yashasvi Jaiswal (all for Rest of India) are double centurions in the Irani Cup.

It has been a tough week for Sarfaraz as his younger brother Musheer, who was also supposed to play the game, was ruled out of competitive cricket for 16 weeks after a road accident.

If his brother and father Naushad's car accident had perturbed him, it didn't seem so in his batting as he went hammer and tongs at the Rest of India bowling attack.

He played 160 dot balls but still maintained a 80 percent strike-rate, largely due to his 25 boundaries and four sixes.

Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (97 off 234 balls) missed out on a 40th first-class hundred but the second day belonged to Sarfaraz, who was in a mood to punish pacers and spinners alike.

His 15th first-class century will certainly dispel all doubts about his slot as reserve middle-order batter for the remainder of the Test season (8 games).

Rahul, who got back his middle-order slot from Sarfaraz, did well in Kanpur but the team management and even the Karnataka batter knows that the stockily built Mumbaikar is breathing down his neck.

The Ekana Stadium track had underlying moisture on the second day and the dampness contributed to ball seaming around initially and the extra bounce made it challenging for batters.

His driving on the off-side was regal while there is nothing more to add to his footwork against spinners. He was brutal, especially against left-arm spinner Manav Suthar (0/137 in 37 overs), who looked clueless.

After a certain point, he employed the negative leg-stump line and Sarfaraz would either slightly go inside out or bent down on one knee to slog sweep it for maximums.

Along with Tanush Kotian (64), he added 183 for the seventh wicket, which demoralised the Rest of India bowling unit to a large extent.

Once he completed his double hundred, he let out a roar and kissed the Lion's crest on his shirt before hitting his best shot of the day. A hooked six over deep fine leg off Prasidh Krishna and a ramp shot earlier in the day using the extra pace and bounce were fitting answers to his critics who have raised doubts about his game on these kind of tracks.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 1st Innings 536/9 decl (Sarfaraz Khan 221 batting, Ajinkya Rahane 97, Mukesh Kumar 4/109, Yash Dayal 2/89, Prasidh Krishna 2/102) vs Rest of India.

This Irani Trophy is considered the highest quality of first class game because it happens between Ranji Trophy winner and Rest of India. Mostly the best players on display. OFcourse nowadays not all the superstars play domestic. But this one does. Last time Jaiswal made a century in each innings of Irani Trophy final. Now Sarfraz double 100.

Sarfaraz definitely deserves a Test call up in India, but India now preparing for the Australia series with Rahul stepping up, that ship has now sailed.

What excites me is Sarfaraz’s brother Musheer- a lad who definitely deserves to be looked into and invested in.

Yeah am more interested and confident about musheer.he looks technically more adept.he can bowl too
Dude should also look after his fitness. After all, Sarfaraz couldn’t make a place for himself bcoz of his fitness levels.

After watching sarfaraz selection issues due to his fitness ,no young player will take an easy way out with their fitness I believe.

Maiden Test hundred for Sarfaraz and what a time to get it.

STAT: 22nd instance of an India batter registering a duck and a hundred in the same Test, the most recent being Shubman Gill against Bangladesh in Chennai last month. The only other Indian to do that against New Zealand was Shikhar Dhawan - 0 and 115 at the Eden Park, Auckland in 2014.

Congratulations on the 150 against New Zealand, excellent innings. Highly exciting and talented player. Wish him all the best for many years to come.

Imperious 150 to get India back into the game
Seized his opportunity with both hands when Gill got ruled out for a dodgy neck. Seems like he will now have to wait a while longer to get back into the side.

Lots of Vinod Kambli in him, and not just because he's another hyped up prospect( on the verge of being unfulfilled) from Mumbai.

He's got Kambli's abilities, but also Kambli's brains :yk3 An erratic, and slightly odd chap. Then there are the weight issues. I hope he can keep it all together mentally because there's a place for him in the Test team.

He's never going to be a white ball star. His T20 and List A record is very mediocre( by Indian batting standards). But something about the red ball format brings out the best in him. His FC average is almost 70!

Young kid has heart but is suspect against fast bowlers. He will be found out in SA & Aus, let's see how the upcoming tour of Aus goes for him.

Also worried about that pot belly of his, will need to tone down on the biriyani and put more effort into his fitness.

Has a lot of passion for the game. I hope to be wrong about this but he seems like one of those batters who can really score a lot of runs in the subcontinent and be match winners in this part of the world but will come up short against quality pacers abroad. I wish him the absolute best. He has to still learn a lot to be successful at international level. Today when the new ball was taken he felt a much inferior batter suddenly despite being close to 150.

None of your other batsmen could score against kiwis in the SC so perhaps you can do with a SC specialist.

Top class player for subcontinent conditions but will struggle overseas. So would Shreyas Iyer.

We will have to retain KL Rahul for overseas but he is good for nothing cricketer himself. India are clearly going to struggle overseas. Someone from Gill, Jaiswal, Pant need to produce prolific season overseas for India to stay competitive overseas and win test matches regularly everywhere.

Rahul is mentally weak and I don't see any reason to persist with him. Better to give Sarfaraz a chance to prove himself. There's no telling how he will do overseas. Just because he's a good player in subcontinental conditions doesn't mean he can't do well overseas. I think he walks into the Indian team for BGT over Rahul.

Sarfraz is one of the rare old school type cricketer. He takes risks without taking risks with calculated aggression. SUre he might be worked over in the coming years. But his temperament is unquestionable

KL Rahul for overseas? lol At the slightest appearance of pressure he will fold. KL Is averaging 33, away average 31. If clicking once in a while is the criteria so many domestic batsmen can do the same.

I see 2 issues with sarfaraz. He never listens. Pant was pleading him to be careful against new ball multiple times and he never bothered about it. He will be a risky candidate in bgt against pace trio.I don't think kl is in any mood to save his career. His batting and lack of game awareness was atrocious as ever .better to throw kl out and get another another number 5 or 6 back up for sarfaraz in bgt.we should sent jurel, axar for aus a tour and test them out at 5,6.

KL is done. He avgs 33 after 53 tests. He is a 32 year old.
