[VIDEOS] Sohail Akhtar - A clean striker of the ball

When did Sharjeel fail in international cricket? Just when he was starting to establish himself, he was banned.

Stop spreading lies

He failed in international cricket in his first stint (2013-2014).

On his return, he failed in the WT20 2016 and he failed in the ODI series against England.

His only good series came against Australia (ODIs) where he scored three useless half-centuries on extremely batting friendly pitches where Australia scored 369 and 353.

He also failed in the only Test that he played.

Sharjeel failing in international cricket is not a lie or a myth. It is a fact and nothing will change in the future.

He will be 31 this year and all his weaknesses, that have prevented him from performing consistently in international cricket, are still intact.

It is a big myth that Sharjeel was establishing himself and turning a corner before he was banned in 2017. It was nothing but just another false dawn.

Imam ul Haq for our T20 world cup squad. :91:

Do you need any more proof that Mamoon is praying we pick a side designed to surrender to his favourite teams?

Who said Imam should be picked for the WT20?

By all means pick Haider, but is he an opener? Can he play fast short pitched deliveries?

Yes he is an opener, and he cannot be worse than Sharjeel.

He is far more deserving of an international call-up than Sharjeel, whose batting is awful and fitness is atrocious.

Let’s get something clear.

No matter what combination we pick, if we play 15 T20Is against full-strength India, England and Australia, we will lose 11-12 matches.

So it’s not about me picking certain players in order to ensure that we get humiliated. Our losers will do that job for us anyway.

My honest selection for the T20 squad based on the PSL so far

Babar Azam
Sohail Akhtar
Shadab Khan
Haider ALI
Sharjeel Khan
Azam khan
Kamran Akmal

Imad Wasim
Shoaib Malik

Mamoon we should be very careful about banned players recall now specially with fitness and behaviour.0

Haider and Sharjeel are not competing. Best Pakistan squad should have both in playing XI

You can post about his stats but there is no point of discussion when there are no competitors to Sharjeel’s big hitting in Pakistan

If you would pick Sohail Akhtar ahead of Sharjeel you have no sense of cricket at all.

I would understand somebody saying don’t pick him because of fixing etc but then same should apply to Amir

He has been out for 3 years and his fitness has not improved an inch. Sums up his attitude towards the game and his desire to work his back into international cricket and actually succeed this time.

Unfortunately, all it takes is a few slogs with planted feet for Pakistanis fans to clamor for your return to international cricket.

Purely on batting ability, I would chose Sharjeel over Sohail. However, since I know that Pakistan has no chance of winning the WT20 with either of the two, I would prefer to see Sharjeel getting punished for his inexcusable attitude towards his fitness.

Then again, getting picked for the WT20 and getting humiliated in international cricket yet again would also be sweet.

Only bright spark is young Sohail Akhtar... the next Pak captain... youngest captain since Misbah...

Rohit Sharma isn’t exactly a panther with his fitness is he?

Rohit Sharma isn’t exactly a panther with his fitness is he?

Why is Rohit compared to sharjeel?
Rohit is very quick between wickets, safe fielder and can play long innings with same intensity.
If sharjeel can do all this then even he is fit in cricketing terms. But he has not shown anything until now

Compared to Sharjeel, he is. You cannot score 200+ and 150+ frequently with poor fitness.

Rohit is not an athlete like Kohli but he is “cricket fit” like so many cricketers of the previous eras. On the other hand, Sharjeel is unfit by any standards.

Sohail Akhtar is the best hitter in the country. Due to captaincy and opening for the team he has toned down his game and is easily making 50-70 runs. He started as opener in 2011/12 in T20 format moved down the order for 4 day cricket in Quaid e Azam trophy.

He alongwith many other Pakistani cricketers need a coach who can work on their bat swing and bat speed. Pakistani players have natural flair, T20 cricket science is of enormous importance for these players. Afridi like 20 runs are no more acceptable. Playing too many dot balls which Akhtar did in last few games also affects the team. They need a laptop coach who has experience in working with T20 batsmen in South African leagues.

Sharjeel scored 150 against Ireland in Ireland being the guy he is. Rob Key and Samit Patel are/were prolific run scorers in English county cricket and they are probably worse than Sharjeel with their fitness. You look for excuses which are poor and contradictory.

Sharjeel’s 150 against Ireland came off 80 balls in 20C beautiful Dublin weather.

Sharjeel is from Hyderabad where 20C is like freezing winter.

It is hardly comparable fo Rohit batting for 50 overs in hot and humid Indian weather.

Rohit would embarrass Sharjeel in a fitness test.

Rob Key and Samit Patel would not survive one full season of First-Class cricket in the subcontinent. There is a world of difference between playing in the UK compared to playing in this part of the world.

I don’t need to make excuses to prove that Sharjeel is a rubbish batsman with atrocious fitness levels.

Anyone who rates Sohail Akhtar should not be taken seriously.

First game for Sohail Akhtar since PSL - he was out after scoring 17 off 16 deliveries

What exactly does Sohail Akhtar do for Lahore? out for 7 - leaves his team in so much trouble.

Drops a sitter and nothing with the bat.
Cant believe a proud city like lahore is being led by this guy and aqib javed.

Sohail Akhtar is pure garbage. Right from the word go today.

He won the toss, elected to bowl and in his interview he said he will look to post a total of 150+. This was in urdu as well.

He dropped an easy catch of Vilijoen and that cost his team 20 runs in the last over

He stopped the game for 10 minutes because of a sight screen issue that was below the waist line, only to get out 2 balls later after having no clue against Saqib

so dissapointed, completely bottled the biggest game in LQ's history as a captain

Weak in the field, not much of a batsman and a poor skipper.

Not much going for him really.

The reason he is leading LQ is obvious. They've had lots of problems with previous skippers and clashes in the dressing room resulting in poor on-field performances. So they've got someone who will listen to the coaches, be a yes-man and keep the dressing room together.

I guess it could be said that he's kept things together although his own form has been patchy.

He needs to go after Samit and Weise

What does Faizan do?

yet he's got his team to the final. He's done ok with the bat but i think the break has hampered a lot of the batsmen that were in red hot form. Dunk hasn't been his booming self either.

Sohail Akhtar- 12 matches, 248 runs, 2 fifties, ave 31. He's done ok but would love to see a proper captain's knock in the final.

From what I have seen of him, and maybe I haven't seen enough, he's a horrible horrible player!

He's a typical tape-ball slogger and his foot work is embarrassing! The less said about his fitness/physique the better. He's one of the main reasons why I find it so hard to support LQ - despite being a Lahori!

One of the least impressive captains I have seen.

What does Faizan do?

Railu Katta!

Honestly I dont even know if Faizan is a bowler or a batsman. The lahore management don't seem to have confidence in him doing either of those, so what was the logic in his selection other than to fulfill the emerging player quota?

Physique, fitness, poise, stature mean nothing if results ain't coming. You can hate sohail all you want he is the first captain of Lahore to take them to the final - previously they didnt even make the play offs despite having great players like AB de Villiars, Chris Gayle, Chris Lynn, Dwayne Bravo, Brendon Mcculum etc.

Smart move would be to not come out at number 3

Probably gonna have Wiese come in ahead of him.

Sohail Akhtar is in such poor form. He doesn't need another poor performance above that.

I actually like this guy, he's very underrated, shows a cool head and love the use of the wrist work with his shots. Definitely deserves a go in the t20 team but where is the question??????

He’s lost a bit of weight also.

Pakistan is content with Babar+Rizwan and Hafeez in top 3 I feel. Don’t think this guy stands a chance as long as Misbah and Waqar are around

Sharjeel
Babar
Hafeez
Sohail
Haider
Azam (WK)
Imad
Faheem
Shadab
Dilbar
Shaheen

Would love this to be our 1st XI at some point

To be fair bro, he's a good player with some great captaincy potential but the competition for getting in the t20 team right now is ridiculous. Who to add and who to drop????

Certainly would like to see him getting rewarded at some point

Aaemer Yamin deserves a go, he's really good with the new ball from what i saw in his stint with KK.

Pakistan cricket has become a charity organization that is now handing out international debuts to club level and street cricketers.

So perhaps we should also extend this charity service to Sohail Akhtar and honor his services to PSL.

Akhtar has impressed with those strong wrists. What would be chances of T20 selection for team green or is that such a long shot ?

Just so uninspiring Akhtar!

Guess now known as Zahid's first PSL wicket.

How is this guy even in the team let alone captain

Looks the typical flat track bully, can whack around the substandard bowlers, but can't bridge the gulf in class when facing the top bowlers.

Say what you like about Sohail Akhtar - but he seems to get the job done!
