We literally are in of the best ages of Pakistan cricket. There was a time when we had Kakmal as our only sole keeper with zero suitable alternatives.
Now we have Rizwan, world's best wicketkeepr, and now up and coming young Haris. Wow, just wow!![]()
Mohammad Haris "sometimes I premeditate the shot, but most of the time I can read what the bowler is going to do as I look at the field that has been set and I can work out what they are going to bowl"
Post match after the win against IU:
Mohammad Haris "sometimes I premeditate the shot, but most of the time I can read what the bowler is going to do as I look at the field that has been set and I can work out what they are going to bowl"
Mohammad Haris on the recent success of cricketers from Peshawar "we work hard, we have self-belief and we are brave cricketers"
I just love how we have moved on from the point where we were forced to play Kamran Akmal despite his atrocious WK skills because we didn’t have anyone else who could even properly hold a bat. Now we have Haris, Azam and Haseebullah all lining up to replace Rizwan in case he slips up at any point in his career. Such a luxurious situation for those fans who had to suffer throughout late 2000’s to mid 2010’s with Kamran Akmal constantly dropping catches and still managing his place in the team.
That’s the most frustrating thing for me.
Kamran was tolerated despite his atrocious keeping because of his batting. But despite getting chances everywhere and for hundreds of matches he averaged in the 20s at a a rubbish strike rate.
Let that sink in.
A player who was given HUNDREDS of matches for his batting averaged in the 20s. No one has ever answered the question about whether there has been a worse batsman to play consistently for us in the history of pakistan cricket.
its easy to complain in hindsight, but he looked like a potentially world class keeper batsmen for the first 3 or 4 years of his career. also he was lucky that he had literally no competition in the late 00s. pak tried guys like zulqurnain and salman who averaged barely high 20s in domestics.
a lot of the credit for the current situation goes to KP, its not coincidental that the region which appears to have the most meritorious regional set up in coaching and selection is producing players like rizwan and potentially haris. you don't make players like this by accident, it takes grass roots effort and hard work of a lot of people in a professional set up.
the other regions don't have a single quality wicket keeper batsman to cement his spot in FC cricket, KP have rizwan, afridi and haris. if my hypothesis regarding the set up is true, id suspect northern would be the likeliest team to unearth a young keeper batsmen of good fc standard.

It’s not just hindsight. He played a couple of good innings but anyway with a brain could have told you that he was not a good batsman. But fans kept supporting him saying there’s no replacement and then eventually blaming it on hindsight.
Salman was an exceptional keeper and had he been given half as many chances as Kami would have averaged roughly the same. Which means he would be far ahead of him.
Zulqarnain played a clutch innings in tough conditions and kept well too, but unfortunately had other problems.
So really, every keeper who was tried was far better than any Akmal with the gloves and bat.
mohammad salman was an absolute hack with the bat, not even close to kami, who despite being rubbish in the second half of his career had a good test record in asian conditions.
if any other keeper was better their domestic record would show it, neither of adnan, zulq, salman were particularly profilic at domestic level, which kami still was.
it was just a horrific period for pak in terms of keeping talent, no one was hard done by, apart from zulq, who as u said had his mental issues.
The boy is very talented.
He just needs 2 full FC seasons and average 40+, then he will truly be a world class batsman.
They already have, Rohail Nazir and Umair Masood are bothe decent they now need to graduate a level above to being good.
Did you ever seen Kami bat? He was a the biggest hack in our history. Terrible footwork, leaning on his bat, no technique and just about did okay ok flat pitches.
Yes he did better than others at the domestic level but he failed so much at international cricket that ofcourse salman could have done it. Even Wahab Riaz can average 20 if you give him hundreds of matches with consistent positions.

averaging 45 in tests in asia is beyond OK. only Pakistani keeper to score two winning test hundreds, and the 100 against India was pbly the greatest hundred by a Pakistani keeper ever
as i said its easy to hate on him given how his career went, but there were simply no credible alternatives to him in the 2000s.
rohail is massively over rated, 200 runs in 10 fc games in a season where batting conditions for the first half were super easy is terrible. wouldn't be surprised if he's dropped at some point next season.
never seen umair masood so cant say anything about him.
The guy has a massive ego.... PCB needs to be abit careful going forward this kid.....
The way he took our a banner out of his trousers and going on saying no one is my hero, I will become a hero myself.......
Indications towards toxic personality

So what did you want to hear from him? The old cliche “Zaheer Abbas was my idol”

He’s already worried that Harris will take Rizwan’s spot in the next few months.
It seems PSL fame has gotten into his young head. Last year he was all humble and was copiously thanking Muhammad Rizwan :
Mohammad Haris on Mohammad Rizwan: “I would like to thank him for giving me an opportunity during [the] National T20 Cup. No other keeper does that. I didn’t deserve a place in the team while he was already there but he still kept me in the squad”
“Whenever I am in Peshawar along with Rizwan bhai, we practice and work together on our keeping and batting. I am grateful to have a friend like Rizwan bhai, who guides me as a senior player,” Haris told Cricket Pakistan.

Tnh, Rizwan can still make the team solely as a specialist batsman so im not fussed who gets to keep.
When WKs bat solely as batsman they lose big time. Look at Bairstow in recent times, he looks lost at losing his gloves. Haris has to be better than Riz to get in the team or it will end in tears.
on the flip side you can look at how sangakarra took his batting to the next level once he stopped keeping, depends on the player, but rizzy is more than capable of playing as a batsmen alone, especially looking at the current middle top order candidates

Dont fix what aint broke- we have a brilliant WK and a top bat. If Haris wants to replace him he needs to become a good batsman to play as a batsman or a top WK batsman. Riz is our strength, he stays in his present role
He's brilliant in the outfield I see.
Quick over the ground and great hands. Superb fielder.

Fantastic catch:

There is a difference between having an ego and confidence. He is confident in his abilities and if he is able to walk the walk, there is nothing wrong with talking the talk.
So far, he is walking with the walk. Plus, your opinion doesn't count when you are camped in the Azma Khan thread talking about how he did a good stumping despite tailender batting performances and the physique of a 40 year old couch potato.
Definitely want to see more of this guy but his 1st outing vs good bowling unit resulted in a big failure.
Alert as a wicket-keeper

Pakistan Cup 2022 - Best Wicketkeeper of the Tournament PKR 250,000: Mohammad Haris
Batting style and Jos Buttler as a role-model
From my club cricket days, I have always played as a wicket-keeper-batsman. In the Pakistan Under-19 side, our captain Rohail Nazir is a wicket-keeper so I have played as a batsman, although I did pick up wickets in one of the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup games when I was asked to bowl. Jos Buttler is my role-model and I love the way he plays aggressively to score runs quickly. He messes up the planning of his opponents and seems to scare them too which is enjoyable to watch. I also play aggressively but always judge the match situation so that I play at a strike-rate which helps the team win the game. Whilst I like to play aggressively, let me say that I will have no problems in playing in all three formats of the game and would love to be part of a Pakistan Test or LOI side one day. I have been lucky to have worked with some excellent coaches at the national Under-19 level who have encouraged me to score more runs and God Willing I will have better results to show for myself in the future.

Well he's picked the right role model!
