You can be tall for normal life but still be short by fast bowling standards... 5'10 to 6' or so is tall for the general public in most countries but not tall at all for fast bowlers as a category.

A bit sick of these LOIs now - need some real cricket and want to see the likes of Musa perform in them too!

How about Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Musa as a trio in Test cricket?

Agreed. Hopefully we will see all the young guns in upcoming new 4 day domestic competition. PCB should also try to manage test series with atleast 3 test matches as it gives the signal regarding the importance of longer format to the younger kids as well. At the moment young kids in Pakistan see T20 cricket every other month and they will naturally be attracted towards more of what they see. PCB did decently by considering better contracts for test players

Would definitely something to watch for but the success will be dependent upon how hard these young lads work on their game but more importantly on fitness.

True. Let’s hope these young guns have the desire to succeed and make their country and themselves proud.

Musa is wholehearted cricketer who give every thing during his bowling .
This year first class season is very important for him if he performs their than he can easily make it to pakistan test team

Unfortunately seems the likes of Hasnain are more interested in playing pyjama and chaddi leagues around the world than 4 day cricket.

Unfortunately this is quite true.

I hope PCB takes notice of this and say to these players to focus on their red ball skills instead of T20 leagues.

Misbah at key position who rates him very high i see him debut soon for pakistan if he performs well in upcoming first class season

will be interesting to see how much he has improved in the last 6 months or so.... given his decent appearences in PSL, he shld have been getting the right coaching and traning facilities so lets see what he can deliver ... a good prospect ....

Musa's only chance to make it to national team is if he develops himself into a useful all rounder. Being so short , he has no future as a fast bowler only in international cricket. Bilawal Bahtti was better than him.

I agree with this and is exactly why Hasan Ali has been found out.

But Bilawal Bhatti was not a better prospect than him because he was even shorter (5”6).

Isn’t Bumrah under 6 and same height as Kohli?

You can still do well if you have serious pace over 145 kph and that is where you can survive. Obviously height has an advantage

Ryan Haris is 5’ 10”

One of the most successful bowler of this decade. The thing with bowlers under 6 ft is you need serious pace to survive and no room for error in terms of line & length(Ryan was master at it). Stop giving useless advice of becoming an AR.

The problem with Hasan Ali, he bowls around 135 kph in test cricket, it is just too slow and line & length is all over the pace and skill level is low.

not every bowler under 6 ft is a marshall or ryan harris..

the problems you just mention for hassan ali are too many. i dont think musa will be any better. these guys would be lighting up the domestic scene. just like amir was early on.

shaheen is the only good prospect coming through. you can throw naseem shah in there aswell.

Not saying he is Marshall and Ryan

To say that you are completely hopeless if you are under 6 feet is completely false.

never said that. im just saying you are setting the standard too high for these guys. harris wouldve been an ATG if it wasnt for injuries.

hassan was never on that level to begin with. and clearly musa isnt either.

question is, is it worth the investment with these types of bowlers? or should we strictly select fast bowlers over 6 ft since the pay off is better.

Musa is only 18, too early to write off any bowler at that age.

Hasnain and Arshad Iqbal are tall bowlers with good pace, these two should be groomed.

yea i dont think hes 18 for real. he looked older then shaheen in the past U19 WC. i think he closer to 20-21

hasnain needs a lot of work. dont know much about arshad

Height is not the reason Hasan Ali is doing poorly, it's because he's stopped attacking the stumps, he's bowling the wrong length, nothing to do with height.

When you're short as a pacer, your margin for error is far less because the lift from the pitch is far more easy to deal with compared to someone who is a lot taller. Lets not forget Hasan Ali isn't just below average height (around 6ft - 6"1), but he falls well short of it, standing at just 5"7, so for him his margin of error is even less, compared to someone who's 5"9 - 5"11.

During Hasan Ali's purple patch, he was bang on the money with his line and length and as a result had confidence in using his variations/skills such as the slower balls, reverse swing, surprise short ball and etc.

Also his lack of height was also exposed in SA (earlier this year) on those harder wickets. Whenever he pitched it up, it bounced at nicely for the batsmen to drive and when he went short the batsmen were quick to smash him on the back foot because of the lack of lift and pace in those deliveries.

If you're not a 145 km/h bowler or possess supreme bowling skills, it's very difficult for someone short as Hasan Ali to sustain consistent out-performance.

Yes being taller is an advantage, but not as much of an advantage as people want you to believe. A height difference of 2 or 3 inches would hardly change anything for either Hasan or Musa. Lets say both Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali want to bowl a ball that'll hit the top of the stump,Amir's pitching area will be further up the pitch than Hasan's, but both areas will still be the same size, even then, at that height difference, the pitched area for Amir will only be 6-8 inches further up the pitch. The only real disadvantage as a shorter bowler is when you have to pitch the ball shorter the batsmen gets more time to adjust to any seam movement, but that only becomes apparent with bowlers that are really tall, like Shaheen or Irfan.

If you watched both the CT and WC you'd know the reason Hasan got smacked around in the world cup is because of his lines and lengths. If you bowl the wrong lines and lengths you'll get smacked either way, whether you're 5'6 or 6'6. Same thing happened in South Africa, he was all over the place which meant he was expensive.

Anyways, Musa is apparently 5'10 which is definitely an okay height.

Thanks Saj!!

Look we as Pakistanis complain with the lack of pace of our bowlers , in musa I think we have someone in can be around 145km mark consistently , who cares if he ain’t. 6 foot

5 foot 10" is completely fine, about average height. If you are a shorter bowler, it doesn't mean you can't be good, you just have to work on accuracy and swing, like Philander. If Hasan Ali can bowl like he did in 2017, he will be very successful, but at the moment he will have to develop himself into an allrounder to stick around the team. Generally shorter fast bowlers can bat a bit, as they know they will not be favoured as much as the taller ones.

I still think Hasan should play tests in the UAE, as those surfaces suit him.

2-18 so far in QEA Round 2 game Day 1 for Northern!

3-30 vs Central Punjab side.... giving some hard test to the batting side

clear difference between him and old domestic bullies like saddaf hussain who havent troubled batsmen at all

Wholehearted bowler.

Really gives his all.

Hope he continues to improve and play for Pakistan.

he is perfectly suited for pakistani Asian conditions. since shoaib akhtar he is the first bowlers who has shown ability to reverse swing the ball. he is a must especially in test cricket.

It's good to see a young bowler in Pak domestic actually bending his back and throwing his body after delivering the ball, he's putting all his efforts in to the ball.

It's funny watching Sadaf Hussain and Musa bowl together though. At one end there is one guy running in and almost breaking his back every ball and at ther other end there is a guy who was supposed to be Pakistan's finest domestic bowler walking in throwing lollypops and looking like he is about to faint.

Nice pace but a complete waste of everyone’s time.

Two inches shorter than Ryan Harris and Dale Steyn who are the shortest successful fast bowlers of the last 70 years.

The only way he can have an international career, like Hasan Ali, is if he works like a madman on his batting and becomes a batting all-rounder.

Invited for the Australia bound bowler's camp to work with Waqar - could this be his big break?

3/14 in 2 overs - excellent performance vs KP

Heard he clocked 145 clicks today.... very, very exciting prospect.

I wish the WC was in June 2020 rather than June 2019. By then we would have inducted and given proper run to folks like Shaheen, Rauf, Hasnain and Musa.

This may have to be revised now that Misbah's in charge.

Some exciting pacers coming through the ranks.

Just hope they are given a proper chance.

Some horrible shots, but he gets a good zip, quicker than the batsman expects.

Good prospect.

Saj with this height he will struggle like Hassan Ali so I am keeping expectations low.9

But this guy has pace that Hasan doesn't. Plus he hits the deck hard. Hasan doesn't hit the deck hard that's why he is struggling more at this height.

One problem I do see is that he seems to fall over after delivering the ball quite often, probably because of how much effort he puts in, he basically throws his body when he delivers the ball.
This can be dangerous in LO cricket as there is a chance the batsman can hit it back and can cause serious injury.

Huge opportunity to shine for Musa in Australia.

“Yes it’s a brave and bold decision to select the likes of Musa and Naseem, but we know that their fresh and attacking approach will give us something different. The Australian wickets will give them the opportunity to express themselves, gain valuable experience and it will help us to take 20 wickets to win the Tests.

“I am pretty sure these two lads will surprise a lot of people with their pace, controlled swing and ability to bowl long spells at a consistent speed.

Musa should be given a long rope, and should be given confidence if he fails in Australia, it is quite a tough place to play let alone debut. The positive thing about Musa is that he's super fit and strong, and can keep running in and bowling quick for long spells like a machine.

Musa quotes:

“I am really happy with my selection for the Australia tour, I am not thinking about bowling to the likes of David Warner or Steve Smith, rather I want to make an impression with my pace and penetration. My strength is bowling fast, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar are my fast bowling idols and I want to replicate their performances and instil fear in the batsmen like they did.”

T20I debut for Pakistan in 3rd T20I vs Australia

Another PP youngster hype machine thread backfiring.

This mediocre midget is stretching the definition of talent. Don't want to see him in a Pakistan cap again, he didn't earn one in the first place thanks to our clueless selector.

Tbf, Musa wasn’t hyped much around here and there definitely weren’t many vouching for his inclusion in the side before the squad was announced.

He is short, has a reluctant/hesitant runup, not express, won;t go too far. Good enough for under 19 cricket and probably FC cricket, not beyond that.

One of the few folks who called it.

Some of the hyping on the first few pages are gold. The next Neil Wagner :))

Removes a well set Salman Butt on Day 2 of the QeA Trophy Final

Finding it tough in the 4-Day game Musa - looks to me he has some way to go in this format.

His 29th over has gone for 21 runs so far, with a ball to go.

My take is that Misbah has seen short quicks like Aizaz Cheema and Bilawal Bhatti take wickets on pitches with no bounce, and he hasn’t grasped that that doesn’t work outside Asia.

Musa Khan is a Misbah Project, and one that can only fail in the red ball format.

At the moment he is not even fc standard and e made him play test on the most unforgiving pitches for his type of bowlers against batsman who are ruthless on those tracks

Woah.

AMAZING bowling, opening the bowling for ISLU.

Fiery pace.

Got wicket in the 1st over of Watson.
