[VIDEOS] Talent Spotter : Rohail Nazir

I love that Rohail is learning to improvise shots like ramps, scoops, reverse sweeps. How many other batsmen in the Pakistan set up can do this?
 
I said he wasn't a T20 player a couple of days ago, but after seeing his cameo today, I think he can do a good job in T20s. However his best formats will still be the longer ones.
 
Impressive cameo. If he can carry on batting like this, then he can find a place in T20 team in the future.

I stil think zeeshan Ashraf deserves to be the t20 wicket keeper Bateman for short term
 
He’s got to be batting ahead of the likes of nawaz so he gets enough opportunities. Looked good today - hope he can be a longterm option in t20s while Rizwan focuses on tests and Odis.

Some wonderful shots.

Has a fine array of shots available to him, perhaps too many.
 
Has a good array of shots. Showed a bit of inexperience when he tried to over attack Shah even though he already had 10-12 runs in the over already.

He did well at the U-19 level, then got to domestic and worked hard.

He wasn’t fast-tracked to international cricket off a few PSL matches. Right now Pak. has a couple of shooperstars who hit a couple sixes or a get 2-3 wickets in PSL then got selected in the national team.

Young kids in Pakistan should look at Rohail, Saud (45+ average in List A and FC), Shaheen (10 wicket haul in FC) etc. as examples.

Do well in age group cricket, then domestic cricket, to get to international level.

Also has captinacy experience also a very hard working on his power game

Who are the couple shooperstars? Shadab is one the other?
 
There are really exciting possibilities for Pakistan currently.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are the real deal, and Shan Masood is average but has leadership qualities.

Beyond that there are no senior players worth retaining.

But by my calculation there are five thrilling young talents:

Haider Ali
Rohail Nazir
Shadab Khan
Naseem Shah
Shaheen Shah Afridi

That's the most exciting crop of emerging players for 30 years.

And now neither is in the first XI and barely make it to bench - shows the team is maturing.
 
Impressive today, looks a very good prospect for all formats. Hope he gets fast tracked - we need a T20 keeper bat.
 
He is future WK for Pakistan. Play him against Zimbabwe. Also groomed for captaincy since his U-19 days so that’s a positive.
 
He is a very good batsman understand his game and can manipulate field which is quite uncommon in Pak......the fact he is a keeper and has captaincy experience is a plus
 
Already twice the batsman Sarfaraz is but won't be given a chance for another year or two at least :misbah
 
I think Rizwan is the issue not Saffy...He should still be his understudy and def to NZ shaheen tour as i think he will be better than both Saffy and rizzy

Sarfaraz should be dropped entirely.

Rizwan should be primary keeper for Tests and ODI.

Rohail should be primary keeper for T20. He should also be kept around as backup ODI and Test keeper, and occasionally played in place of Rizwan or even in the same team.

good player but I prefer zeeshan Ashraf for the Zimbabwe tour but wouldnt be disappointed if rohail was given a go

Did not like his batting in this innings. He was moving way too much at the time of delivery which meant he was off balance and head wasnt on top of the ball on few occasions. Dont know on whose suggestion he's adopted this technique. I hope it gets sorted quickly

PakPassion.net: How highly do you rate Rohail Nazir and are you surprised that he hasn’t yet played for Pakistan?

Mohammad Wasim: I don’t think he is that far away from making his international debut. He is probably number 3 in terms of wicketkeeper-batsman in the country. He is also one of those who performed well last year in red-ball cricket and also captained the Pakistan Under-19 side, and also lead Northern against the MCC. He is a strong character who understands his game well and also has those leadership traits that are needed for a captain. There is a long way to go for him, but he is learning fast. And whilst it’s more fashionable to talk about how good a wicket-keeper like Rohail is with the bat, I would break rank and say that his ‘keeping is what makes him brilliant. Of course, he can bat too and especially in white-ball cricket where he proved himself last year when I gave him chances in the top order where he got a few fifties. And this is how I try and improve player’s chances of playing for the country by playing them in the right position. For example, if Pakistan need a wicket-keeping batsman who goes in at 7 or 8 and finishes the game then sending Rohail as an opener will not prepare him for his role in the senior side. Rohail has the ability to not just bat well but he is a clean striker of the ball who can hit sixes. He does need to work on his batting especially in red-ball cricket where the ball is doing a bit, but as far white-ball cricket is concerned, his batting is right up there with the top players in Pakistan.
 
Can Rizwan play as a specialist batsman and Rohail as Wk batsman? Hes better than Azhar, Abid and Shan

I doubt he's better than Azhar. Either way, let him develop. The fast tracking culture is not working. Let the new domestic system work its wonders.
 
After a 100 against NZ A in the four day game, now hits a match winning knock against Canterbury in the T20 game coming in a tough situation. 12(12), then accelerates to 37(24) and finally 69(39) not out to chase down 170.
 
This guy has a knack of performing under pressure, a trait rarely found in our cricketers. It makes him precious

There is leadership material here.
 
Although he is a wicketkeeper,

It is possible to add him into the test and odi teams purely as a batsmen, his recent performances should not be ignored .
 
Rizwan is one of the best wicketkeeper in the game he is flawless behind the stumps, it wouldn't be wise to remove him from his wicket keeping duties , dont fix something that isn't broken

If nazir is to get in he makes the team purely as a batsmen

You seem a bit out of touch with the current season of QeA. Ghulam Mudassir hasn't played a game, Ehsan has only played like 2 games and Zia had one good spell. The pacers that deserve selection are Hasan Ali, Waqas Maqsood. Irfanullah Shah and Dhani have made a good case for selection in the Shaheens while Arshad Khan and Sameen Gul have not played enough games, unfortunately.
 
Rohail should continue playing in the shaheens squad and not throw into the main squad

I don't think he is ready for International cricket just yet but the kid looks pretty good at a WK position that has been extremely weak forever in Pakistan. Definitely seems like someone who may take Rizwan's job in LOI format within the next 1-2 years.

Not limited overs but will challenge Riz for the test spot. He isnt going to uproot any trees as a Limited overs player

Not very impressive. Doesnt get forward or back hangs in between and shuffle makes him off balance. Would never be able to impart power in his shots with this technique. Mohammad Haris looks better to me

Oh yeah , I remember him - Thanks M8. from memory he wsa a spinner and lower order bat but he was a awesome fielder. My cousin bro has a pic with him and also with basit ali and asif mujtiba in jamica or some place in west indies.

his performances have been way too sporadic, am surprised northern have persisted with him, averaging 30 after three full seasons is very mediocre. rumour is he's likely to fall further down the pecking order with haseebullah khan likely to be picked as rizwans understudy in the test squad.

i think he's had a fair run with northern, but they pbly need to try someone else, just to freshen things up a bit, esp in a squad where a lot of guys are avering 50+ this season, his performance has been poor.

missed a difficult stumping too, he's perhaps the strongest of the weakest contingent of young wicket keepers which have emerged over the past few years

maybe he kicks on but i dont see him pressuring rizwans spot, and by the time rizwan retires rohail real age will be around 30.

he's lucky northerns back up keepers cant bat, otherwise hed struggle to maintain his spot given how poor the start of his season was.
