Great to see this partnership doing well.

Is this the Test partnership of the future for Pakistan?

Brilliant partnership - calm and measured approach - no panic and risk free.

Classy batsmen, both of them!

Abdullah Shafique is already batting like a seasoned veteran (in Pak/SC).

Let's see how his career progresses in SENA tours!

No different to rawalpindi test vs Aus, if you cant score on a dead wicket you shouldnt be playing cricket

This shouldn't be a thread unless Imam manages to average over 30 for starters outside of Pindi.

I know people are saying roads and marble tops and whatnot.

But credit is due to these openers as they still had to put runs on the board in the face of a mammoth deficit.

Babar normally fails when the openers score big.

Imagine if he fails after allegedly requesting this road of a pitch…

We are playing like complete ******* under him. Negative wickets bearing no results.

A grandpa would have scored a century on this wicket.

Joe Root and Ben Stokes failed to score a century on this pitch.... guess they are worse than the grandpas of the world.

It might be a flat track but still requires concentration and determination to score which this pair have shown so far.

They should tuk tuk for 2 days on this road.

Best case in this pathetic pitch is to draw and tire out the England bowlers for the remainder of the series.

Running between wickets not that good between these 2 - almost run out this morning, also many opportunities for extra runs not taken

They played incredibly well, especially on day 2. It doesn't matter what sort of pitch you are playing on; with scoreboard pressure and England's ultra-aggressive fields, it would have been entirely possible for them to give their wickets away but they did not give their bowlers or fielders a single chance.

We have the makings of the best test team in the world, as long as a few changes are made:

1) Abdullah
2) Imam
3) ?
4) Babar
5) Saud
6) Rizwan (wk)
7) ?
8) Shaheen
9) Rauf
10) Naseem
11) ?

We need a #3, an all-rounder and a spinner in order to take this team to the next level. The fact that Rizwan is the oldest guy at 30 means that they should all get better with experience.

Where is Haris Sohail? Surely he would walk into this team ahead of Azhar Ali.

Shafiq was superb in that Galle runchase, but both must prove themselves outside Asia in trickier conditions than this.

They are looking good.

Abdullah has been very impressive. He did well in Sri Lanka too. Gritty player.

Decent teams win matches in home conditions, Pakistan lost against Australia and are looking at a tame draw here.
I would rank this Pakistani team below the current SriLankan team and at par with the West Indies .

Who cares about your ranking anyway? They have just started playing cricket at home against decent teams that too on pattas lol. They are not good at creating doctored pitches also. :inti

Pakistan could have a seriously good opening partnership here.

Need to stick with them and back them.

Imam’s dismissal in the 2nd innings was typical. Anything that comes into his body he can’t play. Reason to why he’s a huge lbw candidate.

Just shows, opting for promising youth is far better than sticking with expired players like Azhar.

Abdullah has ability to score in both inns of a game, imam always goes missing in 2nd inns once pressure is on, as has been case in last 5 test matches.

Imam scored more runs than Abdullah in the 2nd innings in the Pindi test

Imam’s second innings scores in his last 4 tests are 70, 35, 49, 48.

I guess there’s been no pressure whatsoever in any of those innings to prove your statement correct, don’t let facts get in the way of your narrative.

Imam will be a 2 over wonder in SENA..
On other hand Abdullah looks competent.
Pls.dont read too much at performance of imad while playing on road like pitches of Pakistan.
Only shaan Masood is better equipped and qualified to open in tests for Pakistan..
I guess that guy Sami Aslam was far far talented than imam but his career was destroyed by imams uncle

Sami Aslam used to bat at snails pace.

Nice 30s and 40s in 2nd inns dont win you games in run chases, each time hes got in and then thrown it away.

Shaffique won us a test in SL with a 100 and also helped save a gave vs Australia by scoring 96 learn the difference between that and getting to 30 or 40 and getting out bottling it under pressure.

Sami Aslam ran away to America and didn't want to fight for his domestic place. He also fell out with his domestic coach, and Mickey Arthur was unimpressed by his casual approach to fitness. He's responsible for his own demise.

Pakistani opening partners by number of runs.
Qualf: 400 or more runs.

Compare those numbers to that of Shan Masood and Imran Butt and you’ll see the difference :)

Real test of their batting is now in this test match. Enough time and great opportunity for both of them to score centuries now

Good to see two young batsmen with potential as a pair opening in tests..

With more games and experience these two will be there for a long time... Azhar ali wasted his career as a no.3 but he was a beast as an opener in tests which was tried for a very short time..

Openers tend to get out early but that shouldnt be the yardstick..

That's the pinnacle scoring runs in Australia, have high expectations from Shafiq he needs to work hard for Aus tour, a true test of him it will be, Starc Cummins Hazelwood and Lyon that's 300+ Test caps, probably the most experience attack in Test cricket

No point of picking imam into the test squad now after the selection of shan masood.

I think Imam's career is at serious risk now.

Huge test for these 2

Daunting total to repsond to - and the Aussie quicks gunning for them.

This opening reminds me of that start in 2019 in first Test - slow and then we lost wickets badly.

Yes it was a tactic that didn’t work at all in the end. Once wickets fell we didn’t have any runs on the board so it was back to square 1 regardless.

Nonetheless it would be a lot to expect from a team that has consistently failed in test cricket down under to start Bazballing. Being realistic a slow, careful approach is probably the one which has the greatest probability of any success.

Imam is so negative , Id much rather prefer trying Abdullah/Fakhar as opening pair if you want attacking cricket Imam just look to already be playing for the draw

Not in Tests.

No such thing as negative if you can allow your team to take a breather.

Bat at 3 runs per over on roads

Bat at 1 run per over on good tracks

Boring, boring batsmen coming through the system. You only get slower and slower with age. These guys are batting like Ponting would right now if asked to put on his pads

Visiting Opener's individual innings in Australia since 1/1/2000 - S/R less than 40 and S/R > 80.
Indian and Pakistani openers are highlighted.

Could be one of the reasons, India won so many matches there and we lost every one of them.

not a fan of imam but this pitch is no road. There is plenty of juice. Imam has done well to survive but he needs to be more positive.

Ah yes. Batting at 27 sr is acceptable now. This pitch is no mamba either and this SR is unacceptable for any conditions.

I would understand if Imam was a nightwatchman but he is an opener.

Pathetic minnow batting by both openers.

Both Abdullah and Imam are too defensive, we need someone like Warner as an opener who can tickle the scorecard freely which could help releasing the pressure.
