PakPassion continues to bring its members and guests information on the best upcoming talent in Pakistan, with another in the Talent Spotter Series

Name : Zain Abbas

Age : 19

Place of Birth : Kabirwala

Batting Style : Left Hander

How got into Cricket : My brothers and I watched cricket on television from a young age. We all loved the game and all wanted to play it professionally. My brothers never made it to first class level but nonetheless we all loved the game from a young age.

Support : Naturally my family are delighted that I have been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to play first class cricket and have been really supportive.

Early Days : I was playing district cricket in Kabirwala and was spotted there. From there I went and played Under 19 district cricket for Multan region where I performed well. After the Under 19 district cricket where I was top runscorer I went for Under 19 regional trials at and was selected and did very well at regional level.

One Day Debut for Multan Tigers : After my success at Under 19 regional level, I was given the opportunity to play first class cricket and made my debut in January of this year in the Faysal Bank One Day National Cup Division One for Multan Tigers. I made 58 on debut as we beat Sialkot Stallions. I played 5 matches for Multan Tigers in the one day competition and scored nearly 400 runs at an average of over 76, with a highest score of 122.

Pentangular Cup : Last month I made my first class debut in the Pentangular Cup for Baluchistan versus Punjab. We were bowled out for 126 in our first innings by by the Grace of the Almighty I carried my bat and made 71. I played 2 matches for Baluchistan and topped the averages, having scored 190 runs in 4 innings.

Pakistan Under 19 Acadamy : I was part of the Under 19 Academy squad that was assembled recently at the NCA in Lahore. It was a one month get together and there I worked with coaches like Ijaz Ahmed, Ali Zia and Mansoor Rana.

Favourite Ever Cricketer and Role Model : Saeed Anwar. A fellow left hander who I model my batting on and want to emulate.

Favourite Shot : Cover Drive and The Pull Shot

Favourite Current Pakistan Players : Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, both of whom are aggressive cricketers and whose approach I really admire. From the ucoming players I would say Asad Shafiq.

Favourite Even Non Pakistani Cricketer : Adam Gilchrist. His pull shot was always magnificent and I still love watching him bat.

Tweaking the Technique : The coaches haven't really identified any major weaknesses. There have been a few minor issues that the NCA coaches identified and that I have worked upon and they have helped my batting. One particular adjustment was a slight change in my stance to make it a little bit more open as the coaches felt that I was too side on. Also the emphasis was on making me comfortable at the crease and not to be uncomfortable in my stance.

Fielding : This is an area of my game that I feel I need to improve upon. I normally field in the slips or inside the circle.

Favourite Grounds : Gadaffi Stadium Lahore and Multan.

Other Youngsters that Have Impressed Him : Babar Azam and Shahzad Ali. Both very impressive and talented right handed batsmen.

Toughest Opponent So Far : Mohammad Sami, I faced him when he was bowling a really quick and hostile spell and was impressed by him. I enjoyed facing him, but it was a stern challenge.

Hobbies : Badminton, Music (I'm a big fan of Atif Aslam), Video Games.

Future Plans : Naturally the aim is to play for Pakistan as soon as possible, but I have to keep my feet on the ground as so much has happened this season and I don't want to get ahead of myself. Things have to be done step by step, maybe play some Pakistan "A" cricket and continue to do well in domestic cricket and then we'll see what happens, but the desire definitely is to be be playing for Pakistan as soon as possible.

Lol. Hope he is a good find though.

Well its not like Amir and Asif are going to be bowling at him in domestic. Which other domestic bowler is out there with such international experience as him, Sami is probably one of the best domestic bowler (but should not be part of national squad)

good luck to the lad, if hes hard working and honest i am sure he will do well. wont get to excited till i seen him play though.

toughest opponent Sami eh...pretty much tells the sad story of our domestic cricket standards. Kid needs a bit more time in the domestic circuit :sami

Your not the only Pakistani mate! hope he turns out great....

I have heard Sadaf Hussain the bowler is getting a chance in West indies.....

and we should select Fawad Alam....top scorer should get another chance hasn't done anything wrong and Test is his Arena

junaid khan
yaser shah
fawad alam,

deserve chances before anyone else.
I would be bitterly disappointed, if these guys are not included for WI tour.

I have heard a lot of positive about this guy and hope he gets a chance soon.

Sami might be rubbish in the international circuit but he is the bully in our domestic cricket.

Every youngster that gets a chance to play or Pakistan has to take it first time.

Players failing like Umar Amin will have to work really hard to get back in.

Early stages of his career.

Should be interesting to see how he develops. Brilliant start, though!

I like his Futrue plans. First play for Pakistan A then international good good.

Who is the kid that bats like Lara...Mohammad Rameez?

Was impressed till i read his toughest opponent was sami :(

Sami was always good in hostile spells, he lacked consistency. He produced many wicket taking deliveris, was part of the Sydney test i think as well on Day-1 of bowling out the Aussies

I read he is a tall guy and one of his favourite shots is the the Pull-shot! Nice! If we can get an opener who enjoys short-pitched bowling it will be great.

It would be really nice if you also try to post some of his batting videos too...

You mean like fawad alam who hit 168 on debut against a top 3 team and then was dropped?

Very impressive start. Will be interested to see him play in future domestic games.

Thank you so much Brother Saj for for such a nice interview!
I wish we have people like you in PCB!

No thanks bhai.

Quite happy with PakPassion and my day job thank you :)

Zain is one to watch out for.

Lets hope he can become a future star for Pakistan for many years to come.

Zain's currently in action for the Multan Tigers against Faisalabad.

big run chase ahead, let's see what Zain Abbas can do about it!

Some very stylish, effortless strokes so far in his t20 debut, 17* off 11

Looks a very fine young talent !!! Played with great responsibility today

You have to be good to make the PP Talent Spotter section ;)

I am thoroughly impressed by him.

I hope they don't ruin him because this guy could turn out to be a star.

Still, like I said in April -- these are the early stages of his career. He sure is making people notice with his stunning ability with the bat.

For me he seems the best talent in domestic.

Superb technique, no obevious flaws and plays every ball per merit, can play under pressure, incridibly consistent with strong personality, plays according to situations.

MASHALLAH, hope i am not jinixing him.

Pity he can't play the U19 WC next year because he is 20 soon.

Another solid knock MashAllah.

Always rated this lad and he's played a superb innings today for KRL.

i dont understand how jahid ali got nod over him , when he was one of the highest run getter in fc last year and everyone was saying wow look we have got an opener who plays swing bowling best in pakistan

These guys are highly rated and successful in domestic cricket but don't get selected.

Thoughts on Zain Abbas? Doesn't seem to have got much of a mention despite doing well on the Pakistan A tour and a strong QeA season last year. Wondered if you knew why? Do you rate him?

I was really excited when he first came onto the domestic scene, played with real class and could be quite free flowing

been downhill since, apparently he has fitness issues

way behind the pecking order now

He's a bit of an odd case. Every time I've seen him he times the ball cleanly but has a SR only in the 70s when it should be in the high 80s at least.

He's playing in the Lancashire League this season, the same league as Fawad Alam.

He has issues when the ball is pitched full outside the off-stump, and has a few issues with his trigger movement. Essentially, he has the ability to represent Pakistan but the lack of development has caused him to fall under the radar.

story of pretty much all the young players from 2011 -2015

from that lot Safraz, Junaid and Azhar are the only ones that have had decent careers, Asad has been barely hanging on series by series

Umar has lost it

A lot of players like Hammad, Ehsan, Zain, Afaq Raheem, Raza Hasan, Bhatti, Amin and so on have failed to make an impact for one reason or another

He is good and can make Pak team in future with Azhar, Misbah, Younis esque Hardwork & Commitment.

But personally I do not rate him as someone with very good or excellent natural raw ability.

Scored 104 off 92 balls as his team successfully chased down 312.

Looked in good touch today before he unfortunately got run out
47 of 43 balls

Zain Abbas 90 not out 11x4s, 3x6s helped Southern Punjab score 148-3 in 18.3, and defeat Northern by 7 wickets in National T20 Cup for 2nd XIs

From PCB:

Southern Punjab, yet to win a match in the First XI tournament, have decided to replace Bilawal Bhatti, Mohammad Irfan and Rahat Ali with Dilbar Hussain, Mohammad Imran and Zain Abbas.

Dilbar has taken five wickets at an economy-rate of just over seven. Imran has bagged six wickets at an economy-rate of 7, while Zain Abbas is their leading run-scorer with 193 runs.

51* vs Sindh on Day 2 of Round 4 of QeA
