Can someone explain this? How does a guy who has averaged 54 since 2021 and struck at a SR of 84 get dropped while two TTFs like Renshaw and Handscomb make the playing eleven?

I know Head doesn't have a great average in Asia but does form not matter at all when picking a starting eleven? On top of that he can bowl off-spin too and just took a 4-wicket haul on a turning Galle track last year.

The left-hander argument doesn't make sense either since Renshaw who is a left-hander has been picked too.

And while I know that Handscomb played a great, match-saving knock in India six years ago, neither he nor Renshaw boast particularly impressive averages in India either.

Talks of pitch being tough for left handers have forced them to take this step .
I'm loving these mental games

Aussie dressing room must not rate Head to play well outside home.

A single photo of Nagpur pitch must have done him in.

Those are decent numbers for Aussie 5/6 in subcontinent.

Head averages 22 in the subcontinent, Renshaw averages 23. Head has been in red hot form and never played in India. He also bowls off-spin. He should have been playing over Renshaw.

He couldn't even play spin on flat Pakistani pitches. He'd have no chance on these tracks. Renshaw is in for Greeen. Handscomb in for Head.

And Renshaw can? He's not even a middle odder batter. Head's average in the sub-continent is not much different from Renshaw's. He should have been given the benefit of doubt because he is in red-hot form, has never played on India and can bowl off-spin.

You can accept Handscomb. Atleast he averaged 30 in India coming into this series. But selecting Renshaw makes no sense.

Poor decision clearly..Head must have played and he offers decent off spin too which could play a part on turners although India have right handers mostly so might not have impacted. But on batting credentials too, Travis Head should have played.

Renshaw's stats are poor at every level. Head was scoring at 80 strike rate recently. He probably would have failed. But you still have to back an inform batsman over someone who has an overall mediocre record.

Most Aussie players are poor against high quality spin on turning tracks, but to pick renshaw over an in form Travis head is shocking.

I am also surprised that Indians did not pick Gill who was in red hot form.

Both teams should have picked batsmen who were in form.

Warner was beaten for pace today. Clearly agin, reflexes are waning. Going through what Sehwag went through.

Warner can't do much given his reflex. He may still score time to time, specially in Aus, but it's about time.

Poor decision really. You don't drop world ranked 4 batsman like that.

I think Head should play.

He can bat. He can also bowl useful part-time spin. Should play all 3 formats.

Indian selections work on seniority rather than form

Travis Head played beautifully in the run chase today also 2nd innings of the second test.
Aussies did really make a blunder by dropping him for Renshaw.

The first centurion in World Test Championship Final history and a great time to make that hundred too.

I can fairly say if Head would have played against Ind in the first 2 tests against Ind.. the outcome of the series would have been different..

Really good knock, the one Aussie player who can score quickly in most conditions

Does anyone recall his knock vs ENG in the opening Test of the 2021/22 Ashes ?

He came in when AUS lost early wickets and played a terrific innings.

Looks a good counterattacking batsman.

Yeah, watching this innings right now just reminded me of that one. Insane how this guy manages to play at such a fast tempo and make it look so easy. I remember just a few years back so many people would want Babar to just play at this SR in ODIs but now he's managing to do this in tests, crazy how ahead the Australians are.

Ahead of Pakistan yes but not England or India. 3 interchange as best team every few years and will continue to do so for the next decades in all formats.

Some stunning wrists on show yesterday. In India he was more about being adventurous trying reverse-sweeps. Great knock.

If we had Pant, just the psychological factor of him being in their heads might have made me more confident of a suitable comeback. But this might have been a match-winning knock.

That said, Ind-Aus matches have not been one-sided in a long while and so expect some twists to come up.

He’s come into his own in the last few years like many other world famous Aussie batsmen of the past.

He has been playing Bazball for Australia for a while now. Exceptional player who deserves to be recognized among the top players in the world.

Left handed ABD..looks like ABD also.

The secret of Travis Head's success is revealed

==

The cricket bat Travis Head used to plunder 163 runs in the World Test Championship final has gone viral with old foes India and Pakistan bickering over its origins.

Head scored his first ever century away from home soil to put India to the sword at The Oval in England on Wednesday in promising signs for the Aussies ahead of The Ashes.

However Pakistan cricket supporters are claiming their own champion Babar Azam contributed to the rise of Head in the WTC final.

Vision has emerged of Azam appearing to gift Head a massive cricket bat in the sheds during the 2021/22 tour of Pakistan.

Now jubilant Pakistan supporters are saying that Head used the same bat with new stickers to belt India around the ground at The Oval.

'Babar gifted his bat to Travis Head in 2021 and the rest is history,' one fan boasted.

'Babar Azam is a true gem and his performance deserves all the praise and attention. He is definitely one to watch out for,' another commented on a video of Azam handing over the bat.

'Only Babar Azam can make them do this for him by his performance,' commented another.

'That's why Babar is GOAT of world cricket,' another fan wrote.

Pakistani fans gloating over the bat did not go down well with Indian cricket supporters.

The two nations have a long history of conflict outside of cricket and fierce rivalries on the pitch, so Indian supporters were quick to fire back at their long-time rivals who mocked them for being smashed in the first innings of the WTC final.

'Yes Pakistan is playing WTC final vs Australia. Babar's captaincy and batting took them to the final,' one sarcastic fan wrote with a series of crying emojis.

'But never Pakistan will come WTC final they will only watch India playing in the final and crying,' another posted.

'How many centuries or fifties does Babar have [at The] Oval,' another posted with a series of laughing emojis, referring to the fact Azam has never played at the famous London ground.

There were also countless memes and sledges in Hindi and Urdu between the old rivals.

The India Post reported that it could not be confirmed if Head's bat is the same one he was gifted by the Pakistan star.

'Meanwhile, a picture has surfaced on social media. Babar Azam is seen in the picture where it is being claimed that Babar has gifted a bat to Head and with this bat he scored a century against India,' they reported.

'Looking at the picture, it seems that this bat was given to him by Babar, but it is difficult to confirm through the picture that it is the same bat. This viral picture has created panic on social media.'

50 in just 48 balls, Travis Head showing England who's boss

What a comback after injury from this Guy. Absolutley smashing innings so far against New Zeland.

50 of 25 balls and then Century of 59 balls. Welcome back Travis Head

Travis Head is having an excellent World Cup. He is now the leading the charts in terms of highest strike rate in the first powerplay.

A match turning century in WTC final and now in wc final. What a player. The guts showed by this guy is insane.

If you want to silence a crowd, just call Travis Head. What an innings! An innings to remember. Marvelous century off just 95 balls.

One of the all time great years in cricket history. I’ve been talking about this guy the past few months on this forum - the absolute biggest of big game players. Remember that amazing catch he took to get Sharma?

The only mistake he made was not telling Smith to review

During the 2021/22 Ashes, he made a fabulous counterattacking hundred on a green tinged surface in the 1st Test when AUS lost wickets upfront.

He also made a very good 90-odd vs SA last year on a treacherous Brisbane pitch.

Was very impressed and continue to remain so. Such an impactful cricketer.

A remarkable inning from Travis Head in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup. He will probably surpass Viv Richards.

Travis Head was one of the top 5 best performers of this World Cup.

He also did well during the last WTC final.

He has cemented his spot now hopefully.

Likely to be Australian captain in all formats soon.

Certainly India was in pressure in the final of ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia.

Number of boundaries in the final of ICC ODI World Cup 2023

Travis Head 19 ( 15 fours, 4 sixes)

India 16 ( 13 fours , 3 sixes)

Legend played 2 match winning knocks against India in a year and won 2 biggest trophies

Instead of Warner, I think Pakistani bowlers should also keep Travis Head in mind. He is in beast form.

What a player.
MOM in semi final and final. Two brilliant displays. Impact and big match player.

Travis Head was removed by the Debutant Aamer Jamal for 40 in the first test at Perth. Travis is in some form since last year so it is an important wicket for Pakistan.

3-4 more years of this and he will find himself amongst the top 10 Australian batsmen post World War II.

I feel he is going to be the GOAT. He is right on that track, scoring centuries in every other game.
After the retirement of Steve Smith, he will replace Steve Smith as one of the great batters for Australia.

He didn't get many chances because competition was high. A bit like Stuart McGill.

I think he is already an Aussie great because he played 2 crucial knocks in 2 ICC finals (2023 WC final and WTC final).

Travis Head has a horrific end to the series against West Indies. He gets a king pair of 2 golden ducks against them.
Got caught down the legside in the first inning and now got cleaned on the first ball as well in the 2nd innings.

His luck ran out i suppose. Always a fluky batsman. India did not employ short ball tactic enough also didn't have smart placement.

He has been stopped quite a bit since the World Cup final, but like Fakhar, write him off at your peril because he has the capacity to pull off a legendary innings out of nowhere.

Although Australia doesn’t seem to be agree, I would personally open with him in Test cricket and give him the exact role as Warner.

He is a perfect replacement and already opens in white ball cricket. Get Smith back in the middle-order.

Well, he has fluked two World Cup finals vs India already. Write him off at your peril, he is basically the Australian Stokes or Pant in his ability to turn the complexion of the game and win when it matters the most.

His weakness was not fully exploited by us. To be honest even Shaun Masood did his home work by having two backward points close to each other. India dropped the ball. They didn't bowl short ball even once until he got to 100. When we bowled he fended. But no fielder to catch. The funny part is India was the one who bounced him out first and exposed his weakness in the previous tour. Ishant sharma did that job. But we lost all the intel somewhere. Rohit did the same in world cup final. He is very weak against off spin. Philips was all over him world cup even after fast start. We had no off spin. ALso we rolled out a slow black pitch which played into his hands.

Travis Head has been in international circuit for around 6-7 years and his problems against short balls have been well documented since then. So if India not using short ball against him was not bad luck but incompetency. Thoroughly deserved the shellacking..

Travis turning up the heat at Uppal on his debut, unleashing a batting blitzkrieg to bring up his fifty. It's second fastest for SRH, absolute carnage against MI in IPL 2024. By end of his innings he scored 62 off 24.
