As Pakistan wreaked havoc inside the stadium by dismantling the Afghanistan top order, Afghan fans outside the stadium muscled themselves into the stadium, leaving the security helpless.

Afghanistan fans outside the stadium muscled themselves into the stadium, leaving the security helpless By the time security reinforcement could arrive, Afghan fans, many without tickets, had already packed the stands Emotions ran high as Afghan fans packed the streets hours before the start of the match Dubai: Fans with tickets struggled to get inside while many were left stranded as Afghanistan took on Pakistan in the Super 12, Group 2 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday in what can be called an emotionally charged match in the T20 World Cup.

A section of Afghanistan fans barged into the stadium, breaking the entry gate, as they packed the stadium with flags and banners to support their beloved team. However, those with tickets were left stranded outside the stadium as security tightened the screws.

The gates which are generally open for fans to walk in and walk out of the stadium were barricaded with gates locked for fans to enter the stadium. "I have spent 400 pounds to come from London with my family and watch the match.

But we have been told by the security that we can't enter the stadium as the stands are packed. Scores of Afghanistan fans broke the gates and are now inside the stadium, and we with tickets are left stranded. Even if we get to enter, we will get to watch a 10-over match.

Is it how the authorities deal with fans? Look at the faces of my disappointed kids. How would I make them understand this lapse of security?" a furious fan with his family said outside the stadium. As Pakistan wreaked havoc inside the stadium by dismantling the Afghanistan top order, Afghan fans outside the stadium muscled their fans into the stadium, leaving the security helpless. By the time security reinforcement could arrive, Afghan fans, many without tickets, had already packed the stands.

"We don't know what is happening. We were asked to move from the B3 area to A11 as Afghan fans broke into the stadium causing a lapse of security. Now we are left stranded here with security saying they can't open the gates.

We have genuine tickets and don't know whether we would be able to watch a single ball of the match," said another bunch of Pakistani fans standing outside the Dubai stadium. Emotions ran high as Afghan fans packed the streets hours before the start of the match. There were massive queues outside the ticket counters with many willing to spend as much as 1000 AED for a single ticket.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan had a torrid start to their match against Pakistan. After opting to bat, their top order crumbled against the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Imad Wasim, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan. Both Afghanistan and Pakistan are unbeaten thus far in the Super 12, Group 2 of the ICC T20 World Cup.

Absolute disgrace!

My brother took his two young sons to the game, couldn't get in.

He said the staff weren't even checking the tickets and letting people in.

Afghan fans behaviour once again brings shame on their country.

Dubai authorities, need to sack some ground staff and deport those uncivilised clowns back to Kabul.

Lol and people thought Afghan fans will be well behaved coz its UAE 😂

It was the same in 2019 at Leeds during the World Cup.

Disgraceful scenes once again.

The Afghanistan-Pakistan game was set to have fans coming in from across Dubai, but not many would have expected a near stampede situation as groups of Afghanistan fans tried to get into the Dubai International Cricket Stadium without tickets.

Fans had started coming in for the Friday evening game in large numbers from as early as the afternoon, but the trouble started when some fans tried to enter the stadium minus tickets.

One of the Pakistan fans who came down all the way from London for the game wasn't able to enter the stadium in time as the gates had been closed. "We are going to watch a T10 game here because people without tickets were jumping over the gates and we couldn't get in," the fan rued pointing at his young kids who had their bags checked.

While the security cordon tried its best to keep non-ticket holders away from the entrance, the large number of fans seemed hell-bent to enter the ground to witness the Afghanistan players in action against Pakistan. In fact, the worst part was that some of the fans who had tickets were forced to skip the game.

Earlier, scenes of Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi in tears while the national anthem was being played ahead of the game against Scotland had people from across the globe showing him support on social media. Nabi took over after Rashid Khan refused to lead the team in the T20 World Cup.

The spinner had claimed his "consent" was not obtained before announcing the squad for the T20 World Cup. Minutes after the Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the squad, Rashid said the selection committee and ACB didn't obtain his consent for the team.

"As the captain and responsible person for the nation, I reserve the right to be part of the selection of the team. The selection committee and ACB has not obtained my consent for the team which has been announced by ACB media," Rashid said in a statement on Twitter.

"I am taking the decision of stepping down from the role as the captain of Afghanistan T20 side effective immediately. It's Always my proud playing for Afghanistan," he added. (ANI)

The Afghan fans usually don't bring there family, you barely any women and kids in the Afghan entourage

I'd love to see ICC start kicking Afghanistan out of global events. Their fans are a law unto themselves and cannot be trusted.

Whats wrong with some of their fans? Do they not know how to behave?

typical racist statement.

ICC never kicked out Pakistan for spot fixing, so why would ICC kick out Afghanistan cause of some of its fans?

Did ICC Kickout India when Indian fans threw rocks at their own players home?

Did ICC kickout Pakistan from global events when we had terrorist attacks against Sri Lanka. Thats a separate thing that ICC took the champions trophy hosting rights from us.

Kicking out is a bit too much.

However this the 2nd occasion in recent times.

Afghan fans should be banned from the ground.

Im sure UAE will come down hard on these people. You make the Arabs look bad, they will deport you asap.

It is not possible for Afghans to be civil. They feel some kind of joy to be unruly and junglee type of people. Take your seat as early as possible once the gates open to avoid disappointment instead of leaving it to the last minute. Such logic goes over the heads of these fools.

How can you ban afghan fans? Are you guys hearing yourself. That if you are a Afghani you are not welcomed in the stadium.

There will be few bad apples, doesn't mean you ban all of them. Remember, we had Indian fans starting a fire in the stadium

While certain Afghan fans might be wild, but what is pathetic is the racism and superiority complex I often see by Pakistanis when it comes to Afghanis.

Whenever a match is close and we win, many posters make racist or superior posts where they bash Afghan fans and go to the extent to call all of them junglee.

You bash Afghani fans, you are no different with your racism and superiority complex.

Feel terrible for the young families missing out the brilliant game and experience. ICC need to take notice, have adequate security present at Afghan matches

Its done in football. Teams of those fans who behave poorly, racist comments, invading ground etc are given bans , no fans into the stadium.

Stop with oh you're racist nonsense. England football team has a ban because of what happened in the final. Its the only way they will learn to behave in future.

Ground staff need to be me clued up and need backing from police on big match occasions. Before bashing the Afghanistan fans the English behaved similarly poorly in the recent Euro football final at wembley

:)) I thought they might fear deportation

I’ ve spoken to enough Afghans in NA to realize I get along better with Pakistanis than them.

Too hot headed to have a civil conversation, one can also see them as passionate people ..

So what if England does it.. Its a racist law that you decide to ban one nations people into the stadium. Its discrimination.

Indian fans were wild in the 90s and early 2000s, did they ever get banned?

Video of the chaos:

I am surprised UAE security wasn't better prepared. Obviously they don't have much experience of handling really big match atmospheres.

lol

The law is for ALL teams, so cant be racist.

Your fans break into a stadium , your fans are banned for the next match. Whether it's Afg or Pakistan. Hope that helps.

No one is asking for afghanistan to be banned

Just icc to take action with their fans,
At Headingley they were roaming around attacking pakistan fans inside the stadium and then outside

If Afghans don't want to be slagged off then behave well for once in their lives. There is no complex here rather Pakistanis are always being targeted by these people one way or another. There is nothing more junglee then trying to climb the gates once the match is underway. Should have got in to the stadium well before play started instead they do so once play has started.

We are much different to them in every way. Pak fans like others are no angel's but in today's match as always it is more then just a few Afghan's gate crashing. Where are the racist comments by Pak fans you are crying about?

You call all the afghani fans a junglee and than ask where is the racism

You are the one who is generalizing all the afghan people.

Like I said, we have seen other fans do much worse, do they get banned altogether as a nation?

A lot of casual racism in this thread. Pretty poor scenes from the fans there but people on social media/internet forums love to generalise entire fanbases based on bad behaviour they see in videos.

Something definitely has to be done though, security at sports games has been lacking far too often and it's only more and more worrying how nothing ever seems to get done about it.

These Afghan fans are a disgrace.Their behaviour is similar to English football fans. They only difference is that English fans are behave badly after drinking too much alcohol.

It happens every game between these two.

Just have to conclude that Pakistan and Afghanistan people can't stand each other.

Totally agree. Sorry to hear your brother couldn't get in. Was a match to savour.

I have seen similar scenes during a faysal bank t20 final in rawalpindi. PCB sold out more tickets or invited more guests than the stadium could hold and gates were closed. Fans broke the gates to enter the stadium

Issue here is why were fans without ticket allowed to enter the match. That created problems for the ones who actually had tickets. Staff needs to be investigated if they allowed people without tickets in.

They look at everything as a rescue plane leaving for USA from Kabul airport.

Glad that he has wrapped himself up in his flag to better advertise his country.

Seeing as the people involved here are Afghanistan fans it's pretty weird of you to band both fan groups together

Im surprised this ha happened in Dubai, normally the security is very strict but clearly nobody present on scene.

Where have the pak fans created trouble? Theres only one set of fans who dont know how to behave in these games

They should be banned till they learn

This is not true at all. Just fabricating things to support your argument as usual.

Thanks bro.

He has been to one game, has tickets to more, so isnt too bothered. But he said it was like a uncontrolled zoo. The sheer number of Afghans without tickets turning up.

Imagine if they get to the final! All they need a dozen UAE cops, they will soon change their behaviour.

Captain Mohammad Nabi asked to give a message to those Afghan fans breaking into the stadium:

2 games vs pakistan n twice its the afghan fans being unruly Its not a one off

What is wrong with Afghani fans???

We have a historic and fierce rivalry with India and the two countries have been to war and back, yet go to a Pakistan India game and fans on both sides will be enjoying each other’s company. Go to a Pakistan Afghanistan match, and the Afghani fans will be out to cause mayhem - breaking into the stadium, attacking Pakistanis etc etc. Two world cups and twice they’ve done the same - immature, brainless fans.

People who are guilty should be thrown in jails simple as that. Asking them to be deported or to say that all afghani fans are like this is very harsh.

But there are also situations that created to some other reason. The England situation was terrible, but according to what the posters in Dubai have reported that, it was most likely the staff members that allowed people in without tickets. Most likely friends saying we would get you get in dont worry.

The wall climbing's happened after the gates were closed due to the stadium being full.

The freeloaders should be jailed, along with the staff members who allowed this to happen. Very poor from BCCI who are hosting this and should had known that this would happen as many here had predicted based on what happened in England.

Disgusting stuff. But, lets not generalize and call all Afghanistan fans idiots. That is not fair and we wouldn't like if they said the same about us. Can't believe they were allowed to get in that easily, though.

Under FIFA regulations this type of behaviour may lead to disciplinary action against the team. Docking of points has been a commonly used tactic. The ICC needs to look onto this.

I'm surprised so many ppl are generalising afghan fans especially with our chequered history of fan trouble. For the current behaviour of expat afghan fans, please see 90s british pakistani fans.

On a sidenote, it's pretty amusing to see afghan fans show hate towards pakistanis for the backing of the taliban yet hardly any antipathy towards brits or Americans for bombing their country to smithereens.

Statement from ICC

More than 16,000 tickets had been issued for tonight’s game between Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, thousands of ticketless fans traveled to the venue and then attempted to force entry into the stadium.

Dubai Police and security staff secured the stadium to ensure the safety of everyone inside and brought in significant additional resources to disperse the crowd and calm the situation.

At approximately 7pm, Dubai Police directed that all gates should remain closed and no further entry was permitted to maintain a safe and controlled environment inside the venue.

The ICC has asked the ECB to undertake a thorough investigation into tonight’s events to learn any lessons and will work closely with authorities to ensure there is no repeat of this situation in the future.

The ICC, BCCI and ECB apologise to any fans with valid tickets who were unable to enter the stadium tonight and request they contact the ticket provider.

very poor tournament organization by BCCI. As host they should had been aware of what took place in England.

Anyways, hope the ticket holders get full refunds.
dildilpak ECB = Emirates Cricket Board

On topic, I agree with brother JaDed . Even the Afghan students I have met here are loose cannons who are just waiting to go off. Far too entitled, far too reactionary, cant handle an ounce of criticism

So people with tickets who tried to get in after 7pm could not enter.

So people with tickets who tried to get in after 7pm could not enter.

Goes to show proper planning isn't a thing here and, they likely hoped upon hope that the same wouldn't happen again.

It's just shoddy and embarrassing for those involved.

Could the mods also share the video where an Indian journalist tried to create controversy by asking a dumb political question with regards to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Nabi answered that question well that lets not discuss politics and stay to cricket, very embarrassing stuff by the Indian Journalist.

That journalist tried very hard to ask political questions that ICC media manager had to intervene and shut his mic.

Calling someone junglee means uncivil. You really need to upgrade your grammar big time! Where did I say Afghanistan or it's people should be banned neither did I say they were all like that. What I said is that Afghan's have often doe such things as was the case in England too when they started fighting Pakistan. Yes many of them are junglee, i stand by that comment.

I was at the game today. Arrived nice and early their was a section where police on Horses were stopping entry past a certain point, until the crowd that had gone through prior had actually gone past ticket checks and entered safely. At this point there was thousands of Afghan fans just pushing like crazy from the back to push the horses back, their was women and children in this crowd and people begged and pleaded, police used batons to stop them but there was nothing they can do myself even was pushed into forced entry passed the police on horses, several people fell to the ground got stamped and trampled on, some got hurt really badly, so many fans like myself tried to implore the vast Afghan fans to stop but they wouldn’t listen, they simply was outnumbering security and police and felt untouchable, I even unfortunately fell over myself as the person in front of me had fallen and I had no footing available in front of me. In the end myself and thousands got pushed into the stadium past ticket checking and nobody checked our tickets as security had given up. I got away with a few grazes and lost my cap in the process but some were not so lucky I seen one man desperately trying to save his wife and child in the mad stampede while these so called fans just stormed through. I been coming to Uae stadiums since the Lahore attack had happened and Pakistan cricket relocated their matches here, also traveled worldwide watched countless games never seen this kind of behaviour From any cricket fans. If this football FIFA would ban the team whose fans they were but this don’t happen in cricket. Truly awful experience outside and sad to say the trouble was caused by Afghan Fans only.

Security was outnumbered as was police they just barged through. The seats we was sitting on fee seats away several different people sat on there was no control I don’t think the organizers expected this Chaos. Terrible for the game. So many were standing at the seats they did not pay for and told many times by the people behind to sit as they are obstructing their view but to no avail.

I read a very similar account from a Pakistani lady on twitter. She had to return to her home saving her child from stampede as she thought it simply wasn't worth it to risk her and her child's life.

She also said a Pakistani fan's pant was apparently totally ripped apart by the Afghan fans, leaving him begging for a flag to cover himself up. Not sure how legit though.

Horrible horrible scenes. Have seen many games at the same stadium but nothing like this before! A lot of people with families turned back because Afghans were climbing the fence and getting really aggressive. The security were pushing them as well. It was chaos.

Luckily, we made a man made wall and let the families go in and got inside just in time. Felt bad for so many people who were going back. Afghan fans didn’t behave in the ground as well. It was fitting that we won the game against them in this manner. Never ever going to a game where Afg is playing.

I’m proud of Pakistanis in this case. At least we know how to behave.

Came across some shocking accounts of events pre match from Pak fans on social media. Not sure how legit they're though.

Care to elaborate on it? Shocking accounts concerning what exactly?

We were having discussion amongst friends that Afghan fans are more likely to be subdued here (even though I didn't really buy whatever reasoning they were giving and thought that it might not be as brutal as it was in Leeds but there might be some trouble one way or the other). Couple of my friends attended that game in Leeds and they said that the apart from being highly aggressive; they had also brought ladders to climb up the stadium walls.

So, what has stayed constant (for some of them at least) are their adventurous endeavors and bullish behavior in terms of entering the stadium somehow.

Relieved that there has not been any news so far of any fights. Probably Afghan-Pakistanis in UAE get along better than in UK.

Answer above. It was a series of tweets describing the horrible events that happened and they received plenty of traction from fellow Pakistanis before the Pakistani lady seemingly deleted them.

I did think this was always going to be a spicy affair given the political friction between the two set of fans (more so from the Afghans towards Pakistanis). But from my experience, I've observed that 1st or 2nd generation Afghans in western countries seem to be far more anti Pakistani than the Afghans working in countries like the UAE. If the game had happened in England, another fight would likely have ensued.

Dear oh dear! I am extremely sorry to hear that. I hope you are fine and also nobody got hurt badly. This is absolutely pathetic and inhumane behaviour; earlier I was thinking that perhaps you could blame security for this situation but now I seriously think that some stern action should be taken; if after the investigation it is found that there was systematic and conscious efforts by Afghan fans to bully and storm their way into the stadium illegally then they shouldn't be allowed to enter the stadium for a period of time. I know, quite a lot of Afghan fans are well-behaved but unfortunately under such situations where you have seemingly organized gangs literally causing a fatal situation for others, you have to take bold steps to ensure the safety at the games in future.

What you said is exactly what my friend believed in; 2nd gen Afghans have real animosity towards Pakistan. I really don't know what would be the reason for that though. If we try to extrapolate it to India-Pakistan situation for 1st/2nd gen immigrants, I would say they don't have as much friction amongst themselves as residents in both countries have for each other.

One would think that interacting with each other and living in multi-cultural environment like UK should have opened their minds more and made them more accepting of average Pakistani. At the end of the day, general public from your apparent rival country doesn't take any decisions that affect your life/country so there is no point hating them. Yes you can hate their government or heck even their country but I don't understand why would you go to extreme lengths to punish the normal people who haven't really done anything to bring supposed harm to your country!

I really hope Afghans realize sooner somehow that average Pakistani doesn't wish ill on them and actually wants them to get back on their feet and revive not only their country but also the historic cultural and social ties that have always existed between the two countries!

Such situations only occur when Afghanistan are playing. Never have such things happened when Pak has played anywhere over the years so I don't know why people are blaming Pak fans here. Even against India no such incidents were reported, both sets of fans behaved well. A bit of harmless banter is one thing compared to throwing punches at each other. There are ladies and kids there as well.

The problem is with Afghan fans who get over excited especially when playing Pak that they see as some sort of war. Most of their fans who attend matches are hooligans looking for a fight. I look forward to them being eliminated from the tournament very soon so proper fans can be spared from these thugs.

Tbh it goes both ways. On one hand, I've found Afghans can be highly racist towards Pakistanis. Of course, racism is quite common in the subcontinent and I've seen Pakistanis being racist towards Bangladeshis and Indians to an extent, even north Indians towards south indians, north east indians and Sri Lankans and so on. But Afghans take it to a whole new level, and go from 0-100 in the racism scales in an instant towards Pakistanis! Some of the vitriol and hostility I saw leading up to the match on social media was something I haven't even seen between Indians towards Pakistanis or vice versa, and both of them can be quite racist towards each other mind you.

On the other hand, the biggest reason for the anti Pakistani sentiment amongst the general Afghan people is that they feel the Pakistani establishment has ruined their country by supporting the Taliban. And outside of those who fight for the Taliban themselves, Pakistanis are by far the staunchest supporters of the Taliban outside Afghanistan. So this doesn't help matters when Pakistanis say things like the Taliban are saviours/heroes and that Afghans should be happy that the Taliban have come to power and at times, some taunt Afghans by saying things like Afghanistan is the fifth province/vassal state of Pakistan, and so on in a condescending tone. The 2nd gen Afghan women in western countries are also the most anti Pakistani and I guess this is due to the above reason, given the Afghan women's lives and education gets affected the most under the Taliban.

There is no real sporting rivalry between the two but more poltics related.

A friend of mine flew in with his family to Dubai yesterday morning after having bought his tickets well in advance.

He could not get in and returned to the safety of his hotel.

These are some of the videos he took.

Yes thanks will be ok in a few days just ankles swelling but it’s not what you expect attending a cricket match. It’s just unacceptable

I am so sorry to hear this bro - This is not an experience of cricket anyone should have.

Well me and my wife we did manage to get inside but some of my friends even fell and slipped got minor injuries as Afghans literally pushed in numbers so much. Police were reluctant to open gates and it was a colossal mistake but ICC staff ticket checkers were absent.

I even spoke with 2 police officers after this mess, they blamed ICC committe for this as their staff was not present at all. ICC chickened out.

I managed to get in because i was right at the front of entrance since 5PM local time, my wife also displayed great bravery as the kind of ruthless atmosphere there was, it was suffocating and as i can see from here, many families returned back.

It is better to come atleast 75 minutes before match.
