What's new

[VIDEOS] What has happened to Hassan Ali recently?

He's becoming a little predictable and teams are working him out.

He needs a few more tricks up his sleeve now, rather than relying on the same types of deliveries.

He's not hitting the good length as consistently as he was during CT. I feel like he's been either too short or too full in recent times.

Spot on. And at his height - 5'9" , there is very little margin for error unless he can swing it. He is easily driven if he is overpitching a bit or bowling a tad short - Taylor pulled him with contempt off the front foot today. Needs to get back that accuracy of 2017.

Agreed. Swing was never his strength as he relied on seam movement off the pitch. Any bowler who relies on off the pitch movement has very little margin of error when it comes to length. As you said, he needs to rediscover his accuracy or else he'll have tough times ahead.

he needs to get his consistency back, as posters have pointed out he seems to be more inaccurate with a lot more deliveries either too full or short

Sitting out a few games might be good idea

Fame has gone to his head. The stupid chain he wears around his neck shows how much his ego has inflated. Needs to be brought down to earth. In his mind he probably thinks he's better than Steyn or McGrath. Just be humble and as an example take a look at Mohammad Abbas: No ego, no flashy chains, no over the top celebrations, just plain simple hard work and the end result being in the top 3 test match bowlers.

His bowling isn't much worse than a year ago but reasons for his below par performances could be:
1) Not getting skid on Asian pitches
2) not utilised properly
3) using too much variations

I think he could be his old self on English pitches at world cup next year insha'Allah

Amir may be sure he will be back that’s why. I hope he gets dropped for SA series as well.

Regardless if he’s sure or not, gives the wrong message and provides further backing to those that say he doesn’t take his cricket serious enough
I understand the money aspect of playing in the T10, but would have been a real statement of intent if he rejected it to focus on domestic cricket

To the folks who want Hasan dropped, who would you want to replace him with? Hasan Ali, whether you like it or not, will continue to play at least until post-WC. If he continues this form until then, then it'd be the proper time to drop him.

6 months ago when i said hasan ali was a mediocre trundler compared to bumrah(in vs thread) you all laughed at me.Now-:shh

What happens if six months later Hasan is again back to his old self?

Too many people saying generic comments like "get back down to earth", nothing useful.

I feel he's bowling the short ball way too often. His strength is hitting the good length and getting movement. Right now, he's bowling a short ball every over, which takes away the surprise of the short ball. In 2017, he actually got quite a few wickets off the short ball, but that was because he was bowling it as a surprise delivery before.

He gave away a lot of runs back then too but was picking wickets because of great deception with slower balls. I believe batsmen are able to read those out of his hand now.

He was able to pick wickets in the middle overs, through seam movement and immaculate line of length. The line and length seems to missing now.

Our players don't know how to handle the fame and spotlight. Just a little bit of success and they let fame gets to heads. Major concern for Pakistan going forward. I think he needs to be rested until SA series.

It's amazing how so many people can see what is going on in his head.

Fame has gotten to his head!
It's the chain!
He needs to be brought back down to earth!

If you don't have anything useful to say or if you don't understand the technicalities of bowling, it is completely fine if you don't say anything. Why contribute with useless garbage?

I had said from very early this guy was in class of rana naved.Shaheen afridi can be special though.

He's going through a bad patch . Don't think fame has goten to his head. He'll bounce back.

His purple patch in ODIs is over becoming a phainty bowler needs to improve his economy rate and the wickets normally become easier to get.

his arrogance and shuper ishtaar ego plus other teams doing homework on him seems to be the reason of his slump/decline

He has really impressed me, the dip in form he went through all the way through the asia cup upto this New Zealand ODI series he played every single game and put in 100% effort.

He is only 24 so he could have got disheartened like any other youngster but instead came back to show how good he really is. Will be exciting to see him do well on SA wickets inshallah.

He needs to rethink his LOI game. He bowls test match lengths in LOIs as well which wont work well unless the ball is reversing (in England CT it did reverse for him). He is talented enough to figure this out.

He has been breath of fresh air in this series.Hopefully he finds his form in Odis too.Really happy to see him performing well.Best pacer in the series by far.

In ODI’s, he was bowling with the same speed and rhythm but the tactics were not quite there.

It was short-of-a-length all the way mixed in with slower off-cutters at the death. That was a sure way to increase his figures.

He should bowl with the new ball and then five overs after the 35-mark.

One worry this Test series has been the lack of wickets with outswing. It’s mainly been inswing with the ball in suitsble condition for reverse swing.

MMHS I feel he can be a good new ball bowler in ODI the way he bowled with red one here?

Good to see him doing well in Test's. Although his problem recently was LOI's so wonder how he'll do in white ball cricket.

Exactly my question, what has happened to Hasan Ali recently? Against our expectations has has been taking a lot of wickets in test matches. Happy for him and love his celebration.

Wonderful bowler. He will be world class for the next few years at least.

If he can perform like this for another 7 or 8 years, he can be an all time great.

why are people obsessed with out swing on these pitches it is very difficult to bowl outswing its the incutter targeting the stumps which is the main threat from seamers both Abbas and Hassan will bowl outswing in more favorable conditions.

yes sir, i dont let 1 or 2 games sway my opinion, i look for consistency, thank you...

With these figures in last two tests on dead pitches (against a team that plays medium pace seamers quite well), I wonder how many games he needs to show such numbers to convince you lol:

62.4 - 21 - 154 - 11 @ an average of 14 a piece

ODI's: Hasan Ali has only 8 out of 41 matches (19.5%) where he didn't pick up a wicket. Also had a run from April 9, 2017 - Jan 6, 2018 where he picked up wickets in every match (13 matches) and had numerous 3 or more wickets haul (9 to be exact). Rabada for example has 12 out of 56 matches where he has 0 wickets (21.4%).

In T20's, he has only 6 out of 27 matches in which he didn't pick up a wicket.

So yeah, pretty consistent I'd say.

Outstanding from Hasan Ali - literally put the brakes on SA batting.

Happy that he bowled well today. Hope he can have an amazing series

What's happened is hasan ali has regressed soo much he is not the same bowler he was at he champions trophy. Not only him but all the pakistan bowlers have regressed and quite frankly are not good enough. Not one current bowler can touch 145kph atm and that is a concern. Pakistan not making past group stages unfortunately this upcoming world cup. Shocking team.

He clicked a delivery at 147 kph today and many in 140's. He will be very effective in England with his skiddy bowling

Clicking a few deliveris over 145kph is not good enough every team around the world atleast has a couple bowlers who sustain their speeds of 145+kph. Fact of the matters is he has regressed soo much he has become cannon fodder. Getting hit for boundaries for fun and can't buy a wicket atm. Same goes for the rest of the bowlers. The less said about aamir the better.

Aamir got Kohli out during ct2017 and that experience is crucial during World Cup too. For the moment Hasan Ali is going through a purple patch and he just needs to work this out with the bowling coach. It’s too late to come up wit any new bowlers at this point in time before World Cup and too risky.

You do know what a purple patch means, right?

Class is permanent.

Best pace bowler in Pakistan. Needs to open the bowling in all 3 formats.

Red hot performance so far! Three massive wickets as all three are capable of causing great carnage. Bowls out Brendon Taylor as I type!

Sarfraz needs to stop being a chicken and open the bowling with him instead of trundles like Faheem and Amir.

Hopefully he can keep this up. Always thought he could be lethal with the new ball.

So all of a sudden, when big $$$ are involved, he is giving he’s 100% and bowling consistently over 140kph. Shameful.

Can we let him open? Clearly he has very good skill with the new ball, and should be opening the bowling. Amir or whoever else is going to be 3rd pacer can be first change.

Damn, just watched his spell.

Hasan getting back in form.

That last wicket tho :aag

What a poor post this is. Hasan Ali always gives 100%. He is CLASS so will have performance like this.

Lets hope he will get chances to open the bowling for PAK as well.

He should open the bowling in the series with Australia. We need wickets upfront and i don't think Amir provides that.

Hasan Ali at a presser:

"It's true that my performances for the national team haven't been like my performance today, but it's a part of life and a part of the game, to have ups and downs"

"A bowler enjoys whether he gets one or five wickets, my favourite wicket was AB de Villiers because we all know that he's a legend and a very good player specially in T20s"

"Sometimes you bowl a normal ball and get a wicket, sometimes you try very hard and don't get a wicket. Regarding three formats, I am still young, 24 years old, I love to play all formats as this is the right time for me to play for Pakistan. Obviously the body does get fatigued as we are humans but I am working hard on shortcomings"

"Bowling with the new ball is an art, when I came to the team I was bowling with the new ball. After that, I got success with old ball as well and I became #1 and it was important for the team as I was picking up wickets. But in PSL I am bowling with the new ball. I keep learning and practice with the new ball and otherwise as well"

"National team has a different type of pressure, playing under Saifi bhai is a different thing, there is no doubt he is a very good captain. PSL is a league and there is pressure but it's lesser than national team. Sammy is from the Caribbean and whatever he says, he says with a laugh. They are very different captains but they are experienced and I enjoy playing under them both"

Oh no...too many messages in there for Sarfraz.

He will always blow hot and cold. But his attitude is refreshing, he looks to take wickets and bowls with pace and heart- unlike Amir.

His a very likeable cricketer and will improve leaps and bounds in the upcoming years.
