What's new

[VIDEOS] "You will now see a different Fakhar Zaman"

He is going towards Umar Akmal highway. U turn will take a while. Time for another Akmal vs blah blah thread I guess. :ua:ua

If we want Pakistan to challenge top teams, he needs to be replaced. Top bowlers know where to bowl to him can stop him scoring. In this era , you need to be able to play 360 degrees versus pace and spin which he cannot. Don't expect him to get better with age. I thank him for the CT final but Pakistan cricket needs to move on and not be sentimental.

What do you think of Imam then? Will having him at the top of the order help us challenge top teams?

If we want to play the modern brand of cricket then Imam must go before Fakhar imo.

I’m no Iman fan but at least he is scoring runs unlike Fakhar. And he has age on his side too which Fakhar doesn’t. Iman can still improve, whereas Fakhar is unlikely to at his age.

Both of them need to go.

We don’t have any world class batsmen waiting for a chance to play. Imam is arguably the best we have at the moment.

I don’t see anyone apart from Imam, Fakhar and Sharjeel.

Good balanced post and a refreshing change from the posters calling him "Hacker Zaman". He deserves to be dropped but we should thank him for his services to Pakistan cricket, especially because of the CT. He played clutch knocks in every innings, including a heroic one in the final.

I would open with Sharjeel and Babar. The latter practically comes in against the new ball, after the first early breakthrough, so he may as well open, as I've noticed he enjoys exploiting the gaps in the first powerplay. This would be my top 4 in the batting order:

Sharjeel
Babar
Haris
Rizwan (wk)

Both of them need to go.

and who will come in? Fatty Sharjeel who’ll cost you even more in the field? Dot dot Shehzad to stink out the batting lineup?

Got to keep backing Fakhar if we want to play a modern brand of cricket. He and Hasan will be back, stronger than before Insha’Allah.

Pakistan fans are the worst.

The CT final innings and the T20 tri-series final knock were some of the best knocks played by a Pakistani top order batsmen yet we have the nerve to disrespect the guy and call him names and what not. He deserves a longer rope than anyone else especially when he fits the bill of this modern, free flowing brand of LOI cricket. Players go through bad form but you have to back them especially when they’ve shown that they can turn it on big time in the recent past.

Refer to post 248 in re: Fakhar

No Hasan will not come back, it's very rare for a bowler under 5"10 to succeed. It's because of this reason, he never had a high ceiling. At 5”7, your margin for error is much smaller and you need to be bowling at 145+.

Another very short bowler, Bilawal Bhatti standing at 5”6 was able to maintain these speeds, until he inevitably got injured and broke down because it was physically too much take. Now he’s a mid to high 130s bowler. Hasan Ali needs to be told by the management he doesn’t have a future as a standalone bowler and should work on his batting. If he can become a genuine lower order hitter, he might have a future in the team.

Couldn't agree more with this and it's sad to see several posters come out with "hacker Zaman", however his place in the side is now untenable. You need better technique to survive at this level. He's unlikely to improve due to his age.

Modern cricket is not tullaybazzy what Fakhar does . All top openers in the world are proper batsmen, not hacks like Fakhar. Sharjeel is tainted but he was 10 times the batsman Fahkar is , a proper cut and pull player. He smashed Strac and Hazzlewood in Australia.

We need to find players with some sort of technique than hope of Fakhar doing miracles. Imam is not ideal but his best thing is that dot percentage is very low and among the best in the world . He is just needs to develop four to six more shots to hit boundaries, he is young and can improve. Fakhar is 29, I don't see him improving.

He has been worked out

Just cramp him for room and he doesn't know a way out.

Haha. He middled about 3 shots in the CT final. So lucky. His luck is out now. Playing him guarantees losses. Time for Sharjeel.

He is another Shoaib Malik in the making because of that one inning vs India

Imam is young. He can improve . If he doesn't improve I will be called for him to be dropped. Fakhar has been worked out and will be on the decline by the time the next WC starts.

Agreed. He did a good job for Pakistan. But will never take us to the next level. Also he will decline with age now due to him relying on reflexs a lot. No need to carry him to the next WC.

and you’ll be the first one cursing Sharjeel on here when he’s dropping dollies and misfielding.

There needs to be a total mindset change within Pakistan cricket. You can’t be bringing in unfit players like Sharjeel and Ahsan if you want real progress. Our fielding cost us the most in the World Cup and the series before it yet people will continue to ignore that and call for the selection of players who will in all probability make our fielding worse, which we can’t afford anymore.

No idea why so much hate for Imam, granted he is bit slow in SR and gets out idiotically, still he is technically sound. Everyone knows Fakhar cannot play spin and teams attack with spinner on one end. Fahkar did great in CT final but it cannot be the only thing on his resume.

Dont like the different FZ, need the old one back.

But tbh he has always been a hack.

If bowlers have found out where to bowl to him then he can also analyse how to deal with those deliveries.
Someone needs to point out his weaknesses and work with him.

It's been months and he hasn't found a way. Doubt it will change. Coaches can only do so much.

His new approach is pathetic. Need to play his natural game or stay out of the team. He got us in trouble early in so many games.

Inzamam in his press conference.

"In the last 3 years, Fakhar was amongst our best performers as an opener. If you have a good player, and if his performances go down a bit, instead of dropping him you should give him confidence. I will give you the example of Martin Guptill who struggled a lot for NZ but they persisted with him throughout the World Cup because he was one of their main players. You rely on your main players and give them confidence"

still looks like the same player no difference when it comes to shot selection.

feasting on the minows as usual

I'd be interested to see Zaman at six, the old ball does little in ODIs - overs 35 to 50 could suit him.

Abid Ali looks a good option to open though he is probably more competition for Imam's slot, if Sharjeel can be a contender again then

Sharjeel/Imam/Abid - compete for slots 1,2
Babar
Haris
Sarfraz
Zaman
Ifthikar/Shadab/Imad - to compete for slots 7,8.
Amir
Shaheen
Hasnain/Rauf/Usman/Wahab/newbies - compete for 9,10,11.

another extremly poor show.... not for a moment looked like in control, always looked like getting out... def time to get rid of him as an automatic slection and get some1 like a Shaan Masood or Abid ali an extended run... need to do tht in next game... Abid is the only possibility ....

Fakhar needs to go back in domestic... he needs to play long innings nd sort himself out ...

his game has been seriously exposed and not working now

Well, he's applying the brakes a little bit more which is good to see. Can't be going for fours and sixes every ball. :afridi1

Scoring ugly runs when not in touch is the sign of some one with a bit of mettle about them . Fakhar has done just that and at a decent click . Two 50s mashallah.

A decent series for him.

Much needed time in the middle and confidence.

Well done!

So finally we don't have a single mentally fragile player in our batting lineup, ifti and Abid are real tough nuts

Too much hate for him on here. He’s the least of our problems atm.

Don’t get fooled. Nothing has changed for him.

He simply can’t score against quality attacks unless he gets lucky. A proper hack.

I would rather have him and Abid opening than having Imam in there. Abid is an uprgaded version of Imam: more shots, better timer, can play spin and can play the short ball.

He will never change. It is not possible. Pakistan should simply cut their losses.

No need for this shot

It is one of the biggest myths that Fakhar is a match-winner. His batting is comparable to Afridi but the latter could win the game with his bowling as well.

His strengths are obvious and he should stick to them instead of trying to be a batsman he will never be.

A mental midget who thrives against minnows and that too with luck!

Can’t really call him a mental midget when his best performances have come under the highest of pressure. Shehzad and Akmal are mental midgets who never play for the team or turn up when it’s needed.

Been in a bad rut recently but should still be backed because atleast he is selfless and plays with intent.

All Champions trophy superstars turning out to be uber mediocre and are being put to their rightful places except perhaps Amir who has developed a sort of symbiotic relationship with the batsmen.

Fakhar has still been pretty decent. Had 2 50s in the recently concluded ODI series plus he still averages 36 in the last year which is not amazing but certainly not nearly as bad as other like Hasan Ali's and Faheem Ashraf's performances.

LoL at this thread. He is a hack and can only be played if Pakistan have a solid middle order

I dont mind fakhar. We have to accept his limitations. The positive thing about him is he looks for runs and is aggressive. The likes of shehzad and imam cant get us of to quick starts, atleast 4/10 times fakhar will do that.

If he can hack his way to a 30 of 20 i dont mind.

You would of thought he would work on issues after being exposed so early on in his career. Surely he can work on his front foot game with straight bat.

From bad to worse. 1st ball humiliation for Fakhar.

That shot today was the sort of shot you'd see from a 6 year old kid when he's facing the 15 year old's at school cricket practice.

Backing away, literally scared and clueless.

its time to bring back sharjeel khan as Aus did with smith and warner as they know that they are their main player so why can't Pakistan do the same for sharjeel

He is a hack, but during his purple patch, he was “ effective” hack (@babajee). Now, his eye sight & reflex has caught up with the years he was born with (29 is the prime age even for hackest of hacks, unless you are born as 5-6 years old) - result is unpleasant viewing, if not ugly.

Not developed his game at all, even when he gets in, he doesn’t look like a guy that cares too much about winning the game.

When did Faheem Ashraf actually perform?

Not sure why this thread is bumped. He is Pakistan's best opener in LOIs and got an absolute beauty today. Unplayable ball from Rajitha.

I said it when the world cup concluded that it was time to drop Hafeez, Malik, Fakhar, Sarfraz, and Wahab from Pakistan cricket team.

These players are finished. There is no point in carrying them anymore.

Well and truly exposed. Won’t take us where we want to be. Should have been dropped after the WC.

Just constant hate on here for Fakhar. Until we find a decent replacement he deserves his place in the side. Has struggled in T20s recently but you’ve got to back a player who has turned up in finals and won you tournaments when he’s going through his first patch of bad form, especially when you only have trash like Shehzad waiting in the wings.

ODI is his strongest format. Although, I would stick with him till the T20I WC. Him and Imam as our openers. Imam has a good T20 average.

Fakhar Zaman last 10 T20I innings:

0, 6, 7, 17, 14, 4, 11, 24, 11 and 14

Total runs 108
Average 10.80

The guy has been given a free ride for too long with no pressure to iron out his issues. The noose is tightening on him

Sharjeel Khan says hello.

If he finds any form on his comeback then Fakhar could be history.

Wonder what our resident sasta analyst topspin ji has to say about this.

I would rather be a "sasta analyst" than hold such a poor grasp of cricket. You will always be exposed as a novice reader of the game.

Hasan123 is an excellent poster and in my view is the most impartial of all PPers, so I trust his judgement because he's usually bang on the money. I agree that Fakhar shouldn't be opening the bat anymore because he clearly can't play the new ball to save his life.

I think before we drop him I would rather see him bat at 6 instead of Iftikhar, who I strongly believe isn't 29 but is in the 35-40 age group, so there's no point in investing in him.

Well and truly exposed. Won’t take us where we want to be. Should have been dropped after the WC.

Ive been saying exactly this.

He has had his time to shine 2 year purple patch like our specialist captain.

Both of their times are up. Need to move on and think about the 2023 WC

He went from cleanly hitting the ball to cleanly miss timing the ball. Why are our players so inconsistent? Babar is getting there, but most of our players have few good games and then continue to have a awful games and can't recover from this rut.

He has had long enough to come good. He hasn't. He has been worked out. At 29, I don't expect him to correct such issues.

Use Abid Ali/Sharjeel for couple of years to pair up with Imam until a younger opener is ready. Fakhar should develop his front foot game back in domestics.

Fakhar is going through a terrible phase and his technique is not there with shot selection to escape this rut.

Solution:

Open in longer formats

Yes, seems a bit fishy, Nasir Jamshed, Sohaib Maqsood come to mind, and the two chosen ones before them.

45 off 36 balls for KPK vs Balochistan in Nat T20 Cup first game

Misbah speaking to the media post announcement of Test/T20I squads for Australia:

"With Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan's biggest problem in T20s even at the domestic level, if you want to score 170-180 then you need 2-3 batsmen who can strike at 140-150. Unfortunately, in our domestic circuit, there's no batsman besides Fakhar Zaman and Asif Ali who can strike at that rate. Ahmed and other batsmen all have SRs around 120 thus we struggle to make 150+. So due to these reasons, Asif is also getting a chance besides Fakhar. Out of 6 batsmen, we want at least 2 who have SRs at this level"
