What's new

[VIDS/PICS] Hassan Ali at Lancashire for the first six matches of the 2022 County Championship

Sorry to ruin the party, but this guy is also mediocre in all formats, declining in tests also. He will soon become a nothing bowler for Pakistan and will soon be dropped forever.

Pakistan played a lot of minnows in 2021, which is why he performed so good, that's why 2021 performances shouldn't be taken so seriously.

He dominated against SA which beat India. Did well vs WI too who beat England.

Do performances against only NZ & Australia count (since Pakistan can't play India?)? At the end of the day, you can only play the teams in front of you and Pakistan were performing extremely poorly in Tests before Hasan came back into the side. He has been excellent at it and overall, their best bowler.

Has the FC track record to show he is a good bowler too so it's just a flash in the pan or anything. He is a legitimately good but not great bowler who is poor economy wise.

Unfortunately he's only good but not amazing in helpful conditions. I still don't rate him. When he comes back into the team you'll see the same rubbish in my opinion

The event was held in the Trafford Cricket Centre - at the home of Lancashire Cricket - to engage with, and support, the Club’s local community as they embarked on a month of fasting.

Pakistan international seamer, Hassan, was in attendance to inspire participants from Old Trafford Kings Cricket Club, Old Trafford Cricket Club and also the Bengali Cricket Club.

Following the cricket session, participants were invited to break their fast and pray together at Emirates Old Trafford.

Speaking at the event, Hassan Ali said: “This is a very good initiative from Lancashire Cricket to involve the local Muslim community and particularly children.

“There is a lot of talent and enthusiasm for cricket on display and a lot of future players. It is a very nice moment for me to be able to spend time with them here.”

Howard Shore, Community Programme Manager for the Lancashire Cricket Foundation, added: “It was great to bring the community together with this event at Emirates Old Trafford.

“The population in the Old Trafford area is very diverse and we were delighted to welcome Hassan along to the session.

“It is so important to inspire children wherever they are from across the North West and that they have somebody they can relate to and someone who is playing for Lancashire that they can look up to.”

Hassan Ali never fails to come back stronger after adversity. Quite remarkable really. Pakistan just need to learn to drop him when he starts producing howlers and allow him to fight his way back into the team - just like he is doing now. These performances in England cannot be ignored.

Pakistan fast bowler Hassan Ali also continued his excellent start at Lancashire with five for 45, with Nick Gubbins’ 101 not out saving Hampshire after they had slumped to 40 for five. Lancashire reached close 37 for one, 209 runs in arrears.

On the day Ben Stokes was announced as England’s new Test captain, Anderson produced a casting tape of his best attributes. A reminder, if one is ever needed when you have 640 Test wickets, ahead of the upcoming series with New Zealand and South Africa. Not that Stokes, nor Key, asked or needed one having made their intentions clear.

Inviting Anderson to bowl first on a green-tinged pitch under silvery skies is akin to dangling one’s arm in the face of a ravenous crocodile, but Hampshire did just that and predictably lost their top order cheaply.

Anderson was at his controlling best in a first six-over spell which found brisk nibble in both directions – after Tom Bailey had dismissed Joe Weatherley with an in-out set-up. Ian Holland pushed forward on one which held its fifth stump line, while James Vince was bereft by a sharp in-ducker which took his outside edge. Anderson’s opening stint returned two for six, with four maidens.

One of the motifs of this fixture is the blue-ribbon fast bowling attacks on show from both teams, something perfectly exemplified by the replacement of Anderson with Ali. Ali, on the back of a nine-wicket bag against Gloucestershire, maintained and built on Anderson’s pressure. He slightly squared up Liam Dawson with one that angled away off the seam before a leg-side delivery found its way to third slip via Ben Brown’s outside edge four balls later.

Hampshire needed a partnership. They got one through the pugnaciousness of Gubbins and Felix Organ – who put on 92 either side of lunch.

Gubbins spent a portion of his winter playing in Zimbabwe’s Logan Cup – scoring a century in two matches – and had begun his Championship season with a handful of starts and a 69 last week versus Kent. He was forced to temper his usual aesthetic to churn to fifty in 133 balls.

Anderson returned to direct some short balls at Organ, who having negotiated a series of bumpers, tamely lobbed a top edge to leg slip for 42, before Keith Barker looped a leading-edge off Ali.

James Fuller juxtaposed Gubbins by upping the tempo with his biffing and bottom-hand favoured shot-making. He was 37 off 19 balls at one point, before slowing slightly to a 49 ball fifty, with an 83-run stand with Gubbins.

Gubbins reached his second century for Hampshire since arriving last summer, and the 12th of his first-class career, in 210 balls. But with Fuller bowled by Luke Wells, Ali mopped up the tail ruthlessly to move to 19 scalps so far this season.

Wells and George Balderson had fewer issues against the new ball, although the latter tickled Barker behind late in the day.

How does this guy randomly gain and lose form?

I remember he looked unstoppable against South Africa when they toured Pakistan.

:)) Think Mohammad Abbas might have helped his Pakistani teammate to a 5-fer there.

Good to see Hassan Ali picking up wind. His past few matches he’s been excellent, this is exactly what is asked from him.

Go back to domestic, put in the yards and rebuild the confidence.

Every athlete have games where they're great or terrible. It happens.

With Hasan Ali, when it's bad, he is expensive and bowls no balls which tends to make things look worse.

It might be that he tries too hard sometimes and let's the pressure get to him.

Think he's unable to handle the pressure well. The occasion usually gets the better of him. Loses his way in pressure situations. Really hope Lancs help him develop his batting as well especially in the longer format where he is just clueless regarding how to pace it.

He's been doing well. Hopefully will provide a boost to his confidence.

James Anderson regarding Hassan Ali

"He's an absolute legend. Great guy, great bowler. He's quite quick and he just gives it everything with every ball that he bowls and he's been amazing for Lancs"

"He got player of the month award for Lancashire in April and he's got skills, so yeah, its been great bowling with him"

"You can learn a lot from people you have not played with before and see how they operate and see the different things they do and it's been nice, although he's been asking me a lot of questions about what I do but I have also been watching him and learned some stuff from him too"

"I think he loves cricket and he loves bowling, he loves the game; That enthusiasm comes out when he is at Lancs and when he plays for us"

"You know when you sign an overseas player, sometimes you are never quite sure whether they are coming to get experience of the conditions, or for the money but he literally loves playing cricket"

"He will bowl all day long, he will never say no to the captain, he will never say I am feeling tired, I need a rest or whatever; He will just bowl, bowl and bowl and that's what you want from an overseas player"

That's some praise from the legend himself.

That's some praise from the legend himself.

I hope this experience fixes the issues in Hassan Ali's head. His body is made for medium fast bowling but his mind has been more focused on dancing, comedy and tik tok

James Anderson also shed light on Hasan's wicket celebration and described in his own way.

"I like his celebration, I am amazed he can be so focused on bowling and all of a sudden he gets a wicket and he's bang straight into the routine. He sort of bends his leg at the knees, his hands sort of touch the ground almost and then he pulls his hands back quickly, I can't really describe it. Whenever he has done in the past, he has done in front of big crowds, in county cricket, it's quite loud 'Hooo, heee, Hoooo," he added.

James Anderson and Saqib Mahmood return to the squad after missing last week’s draw against Warwickshire, whilst Hassan Ali is rested.

Lancashire Squad:

Dane Vilas (C)
James Anderson
Tom Bailey
George Balderson
Josh Bohannon
Steven Croft
Keaton Jennings
Danny Lamb
Saqib Mahmood
Matt Parkinson

Pakistan international Hassan Ali joins Red Rose royalty in being awarded County Cap

Hassan Ali was awarded his County Cap ahead of Day One of Lancashire's LV= Insurance County Championship match against Essex.

In a special presentation before the start of play at Emirates Old Trafford, there were words from Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton followed by James Anderson who then presented Hassan with his cap.

27-year-old Hassan has won the hearts of Lancashire's players, Members and supporters alike, with his all-action performances with the ball so far this summer.

Hassan's picked up 24 wickets at an average of 17.5 - and is currently the leading wicket taker in Division One - with one match left of his overseas spell with the Red Rose.

Speaking during the presentation, James Anderson said: "On behalf of the players, Hassan, I want to say thank you for your efforts during your time with the Club.

"You haven't been here very long, but you've had a huge impact and played some match winning performances. I know this is your last week, so let's go out on a high and send you send you off with a win and some more wickets.

"I hope this isn't the last we see of you, we'd love to have you back in the future."
