Not only on a personal level due to his daughter's birth, Kohli will be a proud man today at seeing how Indian team achieved a draw against all odds.

You are the daughter of India, Little Baby Ms Kohli.

Welcome to the world.

Wishing you a great life.

Congratulations to King Kohli and Anushka.

What a great day to deliver this baby as India secures a famous draw.

Congrats to the couple, and good luck to their baby daughter.

First of all, congratulations to the couple, and best of luck to the new baby, Akaay!

So, he's skipping the entire 5-test series because of this. I can understand the importance of being present for the birth, but missing the entire series seems excessive. This is the first time he's skipped a home series in his 15-year career. He's already in the last few years of his career, in good form, and has missed a golden opportunity.

Perhaps there were some complications. Who knows? The guy has served his country big time already and some family time is well deserved.

I used to think that players should not miss sport for kids being born until I had my own.

Congratulations to Kohli and his family, every child is a blessing.

Congratulations to Virat and Anushka. And about missing the series, we don’t know the entire story - there could be complications involved. My friend’s wife delivered a baby girl and hers was an extreme high risk case - my friend had to take 2 months off work because the baby came in very early. Cricketers have family too and we need to cut them some slack.

It does seem like there were complications hence missing the start and then rest of the series but everyone knows that Kohli is also whipped.

Missing an entire 5-test series for this is a joke.

Congrats to both!

P.S. I'm pretty sure there'll come a time soon when fans will question the commitment of a player even if he misses a series due to someone's death in his family.

Not fans, but entitled couch potatoes who think every one is made to provide them entertainment on the screen.

On the plus side for India, they are winning without him which might have made him feel slightly less certain about his own future.

On the negative side, it is quite embarrassing for we Brits that we are losing this series despite India's best batsman taking a break to play doting daddy during what should be seen as the most prestigious series for any Indian to partake in.

I doubt it's that prestigious. England in India is boring. Kohli, Pant, Rahul, Bumrah in the next test are all happy to oscillate in and out of the side. Hardly the hallmarks of a prestigious series. The only reason it's a 5 test series is because England are member of the big-3 (and hardly due to their on field might).

England in Australia cricket wise is boring too (usually 4-0 or 5-0) but the history makes up for it.

Congrats to both!

Missing a 5-test series for the birth of a child, after missing 3 tests in that Australia tour for the first child.

Other cricketers also have kids but they don't go around dropping 4 tests per kid do they?

Wrong to compare to others, since you are not privy to Anushka’s medical history. Simple as that. A home test series is not a WC which cannot be missed.

If Anushka's medical history is so precarious then a WC should be missed as well. You can't pick and choose when your wife's well being may be at risk, it's only a game.

I am getting flamed on other web forums for this (rightly or wrongly you decide, and disclaimer: I'm not a parent) - but really - missing a 5-test series for the birth of a child, after missing 3 tests in that Australia tour for the first child.

Drop Kohli from the test team, he isn't as valuable as he thinks he is. Besides there are youngsters that waiting for a chance. Who knows how many Jaiswals are out there ?

Any series can be missed by players for personal reasons. It's not like people should not have a life outside of their work, even if the work in question is playing for the country. Cricketers are human too.
And like in any professional setup, there should be a backup plan to cover for the unavailability of a human resource due to an eventuality. The BCCI has done that by bringing in other players in place of Kohli and ensuring that Indian team continues to perform in his absence. No one is, or should be, indispensable.

Why should playing against England be more 'prestigious' than playing against anyone else? England are just another team touring India. The Aussies and even NZ are tougher opponents.

England were colonial masters, Aus/NZ weren't. We can pretend it matters less, but we all know it doesn't.

It genuinely does, but whatever floats your boat.

Most indians care about australia and pakistan as rivals way more than they do about England. Its important only because they fellow big3 members.

Australia will always be the most prestigious as they are the GOAT cricketing nation.

Lol. Indians care about Pakistan so much as rivals they refuse to play them. 🤣

Actually even that is tied to Mughal history and another reason empire still lives rent free in Indian minds.

But anyway, I digress. Congrats to Virat.

England need to get better at cricket for them to start building rivalries with non-Australian nations.

Comparing Kohli with other cricketers is not correct. We have only a few players who play in all formats. Most players are restricted to one format. Rohit, Bumrah, KL, Shami, and Jaddu are the only all-format players who have skipped many tours due to injuries, while Kohli has hardly missed a series unless he rested for useless bilateral matches. He has played relentless cricket in the last 15 years. He deserved to take leave, but missing the entire series is too much.

Bumrah took marriage and honeymoon leave for more than 1 month, and he skipped series. KL took marriage leave, and he too skipped series. Shami skipped due to some personal issues with his wife.

lol India England is not at all prestigious. It is almost always boring. Even the trophy name is not something most Indians will associate with. Australia series is generally more prestigious and looked forward to by the fans. Even casual fans who hardly watch test matches are aware of AUs series both at home and Away. England not so much.

Yeah - what on earth is the Anthony de Mello Trophy??

When Indians are desperately claiming Pakistan as serious rivals over England you know you have struck a nerve. The Empire lives on. :salute

I guarantee if Pakistan tour India for a 5-test series, they won't be wiped out like England constantly do in India and Australia.

Maybe England should give you a go. After the Boparas - Patels - Alis - Rashids, we will look forward to seeing Rishwat develop rivalries with other teams through superior performances with bat and ball in the sport your paymasters invented after all. Would also deflect the constant criticism of the England team being a white boys' club.

Guys it's Virat Kohli's family thread not a match thread so please refrain from off topic discourse.
