What a champion! Probably the most valuable 8K runs scored by a batsman in the history of ODI cricket! Congratz!

Amla needs 814 runs in 21 innings to beat kohli at an average of 38.7, amla's average in odis in last 2 years has been 37 :srt

No surprises here. The lad is a fitness freak and has worked hard towards his dream. he surely deserves all that he has achieved and this is not the end. Expect to see a lot more from VK. Hopefully he inspires the next generation of cricketers....congrats

Should get there in a couple of bilateral series against Lanka and Windies

At 34 Amla's cricketing career will be easily outlasted by VK so yeah with Amla playing the next 21 innings, VK would probably be playing the same amount of cricket and will maintain this gap, if not increase it

No surprise really, Kohli is an incredible limited overs batsman. He's just so assured and confident at the crease.

His biggest asset is the ability to hit the gaps when playing his shots.

I personally feel these milestones could be broken by QDK among younger active players.

Amla will break the 8000 run mark, but I don't think he'll go till 9000.

The 10,000 mark has some meaning, and Kohli should comfortably beat all else to get there.

The choker will break it easily. However, I don't think he has enough cricket (and enough chokes) left to get to 10k runs, but Kohli should end up with around 15 to 16k runs.

Unlike Kohli's, Amla will have scored the softest 8000 runs you will see so it doesn't really matter

Amla's odi record is a joke, king of soft runs but goes missing every time has to chase a big score or in a pressure match.

Agree here. All that fastest so and so runs are fine, but Amla can't help in big chase. He can't do much in pressure matches in ODIs as well.

Always funny to see bitter Indians and "South Africans" hating on Amla because he keeps breaking the records Kohli keeps making. :))

Nobody hates Amla. Hey he is Indian origin player. Obviously going to be a batting legend. Sadly he has a mix of legendary batting style of Indians and legendary choking style of South Africa. He has proved it time and again. Hence people would make fun of him. Milestone record do not tell the quality of the runs.

I remember in a pakistan match with 2 overs to go Amla choked and couldn't win the match despite he batted for long time.

Let it go, he is the biggest Amla fan on this forum. Apparently scoring 1000 runs in bilaterals is comparable to scoring in knockout games and big run chases.

Kohli is One though nut to crack !!! By the time he comes to bat, one down, the Indians are already close to 100 runs on the board. So he takes his time, gauges both the ends of the pitch, and then whacks the ball around !!!
So it will be a real challenge for our guys to stop this from happening in the Final. Easy for me to say, then to do it !!!! But what other choice do we have ???

First time i was in awe was when he made 133 against SL at Hobart. He absolutely demolished Malinga. Hhe picked the yorkers from the stumps like childs play and scored 24 runs in one over. He wasn't even slow at that time. Then 183 against Pakistan.

King Kohli!

Leagues ahead of his contemporaries in LOIs.

When two players have career strike rate of 90 we assume both are equally aggressive.Strike rates give one of the most misleading picture. In one dayers how many gears you have and what is your top gear. Dhoni has similar strike rate of Amla. 50th over 14 runs. You would want Dhoni or Amla? or You would want Kohli or Amla? This is exactly why Indian fans are never thrilled about Rahane as a ODI player or Pujara. They don't have many gears.

Babar has a chance too

Given pakistan's history of managing talent , it's hard to bet on any Pakistani prodigies :D

QDK is already in the system, and set for a long haul. I'll wait a few more years before judging on Babar.

Its good that new talent unlike Sachin is performing for country's win, most of his centuries are in winning cause.

After Viv, Sachin has the highest average in tournament finals. He has always played clutch innings in high pressure cooking matches which is why he averages 55 in tournament finals just 1 run behind another big match player Viv(averages 56 in tournament finals)

Kohli will still need to go a long way to go anywhere near the great Sachin.

Virat should get his runs audited correctly....they seem to be lot more...guy is a gifted beast.

What is his average in winning Finals that matter. And How many finals he has played?

Congrats, no one is better exploiting soft scenario's and favourable conditions and bowling attacks.

He averages 96.53 with 6 centuries and 5 half centuries in Tournament Finals that India has won. And he has played 17 Tournament Finals.

Next question please?

Can you post a link where it says Kohli averages 96 in Tournament Finals? Last week on cricinfo, writers were pointing out that he averaged in the 20s in ODI tournament finals.

The poster was asking about Sachin's average in Tournament Finals won by his team, not Kohli.

He averages 96 Only in those india has won. What about those india lost ? ;)

If it's so easy to score in this modern era why can no one in today's game other than ABD match Kohli's numbers?

Which is why I gave him credit for his magnificent feats barring all the important games and situations/challenges, also it's easy to big him up when the others are bums so continue the bhangra dance
