After a relatively quiet 2015 in ODI's , he has been in unreal form.

Many of us thought that the phase between 2012-2014 was his peak in ODI's but this is just another level. Can he continue this till the 2019 WC? He will stake a very strong claim to the throne of the greatest ever ODI batsman, if he can manage that.

The greatest ODI batting peaks, in my opinion, have been De Villiers 2010-2015, SRT 1998-2003, IVA 1979-1985 and Lara 1993-1998.

These are his stats under his own captaincy in ODIs:
Code:
Mat	Inns	NO	Runs	HS	Ave	BF	SR	100	50	0	4s	6s
24	21	5	1288	139*	80.50	1279	100.70	5	7	1	127	22

His test record improved with the burden of captaincy too. He is having another career peak right now. Aside from that, his cool and calm swagger and his aggressive attitude also makes him a massive draw.

Kohli has played more match winning innings in odis than any other batsman in history, you have to be deluded to argue otherwise.

Phenomenal peak really.

Staggering numbers. King Kohli

Struggling to come up with a name that include the words Kohli and GOAT...

Yes. He has been phenomenal not that he wasn't exceptionally good before but now he is just out of this world. I feel lucky to watch his peak

Simply outstanding!!!!!all hail the king kohli...cherry on the topping shld b champions trophy!!!
Can someone post his stats in test matches plz...

I think there's far too many people in denial out there.

Kohli is already the greatest ODI batsmen ever. I mean it. By some distance. What he's done while chasing, no one has ever come close.

People can blame bigger bats. Smaller boundaries. 2 new balls. But the fact remains that no one even in this generation comes close to him, and the PRESSURE never changes from any era.

Phenomenal player. I think everyone knows I don't praise Indian players ever. Kholi is different class. Anything he does now will just add to his already substantial lead as the greatest ODI bat.

Virat Kohli LO peak and Steve Smiths test match peak will go down as 2 of the greatest batting peaks.

The best thing about Kohli is that he works very very hard.. There are no free lunches in life and people like Kohli achieve such standards of being the best through their hard work and dedication...

The thing about Kohli is, everytime he plays well he makes sure India wins. There are a dozen ATG but none of them made their team win as consistently as Kohli in ODIs. This is something that can't be done with talent alone. You need passion and hard work to do what Kohli does.

I don't think Tendulkar even worked that hard. It is almost impossible for celebrities or sportsmen to have that same drive that they had when they first started their careers, it is pretty natural for someone to celebrate, enjoy the fruits of one's hard work and riches.

Tendulkar also did work hard but he was naturally more gifted than Kohli.. Also Tendulkar started at 16 so by the time he reached 22 he became India's best batsmen and was experienced in playing in all conditions against top bowlig attacks.. I agree with you that it might be that Tendulkar didn't work as hard as Kohli but he didn't have to since he was naturally more gifted with a better technique.. One could say if he worked as hard as Kohli he could have achieved even more..

Kohli is different in a sense that he had his drawbacks but through sheer hard work and determination he overcame them and became he best batsmen..

I don't agree about the losing interest point, if you want to be at top you have to take care of your body...

If you look across the current best players in their respective sports all of them take extremely good care of their bodies and work hard to stay at the top.. Be it Ronaldo, messi, Djokovic, LeBron or Kohli.. I heard on some interview that he hasn't eaten roti and chawal for few years now now that is dedication.. The players who stop working hard after a while will never be remembered in the same breath as the above mentioned players.. Maybe an exception here or there..

How many of current players can say they can stay for more than a week without biryani?

What a knock its been. Surreal.

And what a peak. He's turning it on in all formats.

Kohli hitting hundreds in chases has become a boring deal for quite a while now. No excitement really when he chases, you know he gonna get it.

That is the main point , Greatness has to be measured among the players of same generation.

Since January 2016, Virat has played 46 ODIs, averaged 91 at a SR of 100. Mad numbers. Check here.

Also inconsequential if he has mediocre returns in WC19.

I dont consider anyone in last 8 years a great batsman. Even Sehwag could hit 300s on such conditions. Its an insult to actual batsmen comparing his `peak` to others.

Stats since start of 2016.

Virat 3088 runs in 46 innings at avg of 91! (13 centuries!)
Root 2715 runs in 55 innings at avg of 65 (7 centuries)
Rohit 2650 runs in 46 innings at avg of 70 (12 centuries)
Warner 2152 runs in 41 innings at avg of 55 (10 centuries)

Virat is just on other level.

This is like Bradman level. Bradman averaged 30% more than any other player during his career.

Totally! Who could ever argue with you on the facts and figures you have put across right now.

Can you put top 10 in terms of averages since start of 2016? Would like to see the likes of Dhawan, Guptill, Taylor, Butler etc.

Between 2009-2015(7 years): -

Matches: - 119
Runs: - 6073
Avg: - 66.73
SR: - 109
100s: - 20

If that was ABDV's greatest peak then Virat has already matched it. Here's Kohli's number from Jan 1, 2012. Link.

Matches - 138
Runs - 7059
Average - 65.36
SR - 96.5

Virat wouldn't ever match ABDV in terms of SR simply owing to the position he bats at and his game itself. Average is pretty much the same but Virat's peak is set to be considerably longer.

Best batsman in the world by a country mile.

With those insane numbers, why doesn;t he have very high rating points? Strange to see him at 884 , should really be close to 935-940, highest ever rating points

Batsmen peak is usually between 28-32. Kohli is 29, so expect more insane numbers for the next couple of years. Kohli is also supremely fit and has a unbelievable work ethic. So it wouldn't surprise me if he produces good numbers in his mid 30s.

All these runs in all these games and when it mattered most in CT final he failed ;)

Thats probably due to the fact that he misses quite a few games and you miss a certain % (0.5%?) of your rating points when you miss a game.

He was at 900+ before Asia cup. For each game missed in Asia cup he lost 1% of point. So basically by taking a break, he lost 30-40 points.

Opps, my earlier post was wrong. For test it's 1% and for ODI it's 1/2%.

Yes, he also has longevity with him.

Kohli's average in last 3 years (starting 22 Oct 2015) is 90 in 48 matches. This is some form.

Btw, the cuttoff from 27 Nov 2009 to 14 Feb 2016, ABD peak looks even better.

Matches: - 105
Runs:- 5672
Avg:- 69.17
100:- 21
SR:- 109.90

Runs are lower now, perhaps 2009 was a good year for him but not great enough. Kohli matches him but AB also has one of the greatest peaks to his credit.

Virat is now only 81 runs short of completing 10,000 ODI runs and once he achieves this feat, he'll become the fastest to 10,000 ODI runs in terms of no. of innings played. The current record is held by Tendulkar, who took 259 innings. Kohli has played 204 innings till date.

To break someone like Tendulkar's records with so much to spare, mind boggling to say the least! When Tendulkar erected these records, not many thought they'd be broken so easily but Kohli is a made up of different stuff!

After below average 2015 , Kohli is ODI form is exceptional.

Pakistan india used to play 35 40 odis per year in the late 90s and early 2000s. Imagine if kohli had opportunity to play this many odis , he would have taken all the records.

After below average 2015 , Kohli is ODI form is exceptional.

ODI runs from 2016 (min 1000 runs , 40+ avg)

Rohit after looking lazy & inconsistent is still near kohli (in terms of runs per inning & centuries). Wonder if he would have worked hard & taken more responsibility for all his talent he would have been up there with kohli too.

In this stats Rohit stands out in Sixes. More than 2 Sixes per match. Pretty good for someone averaging nearly 70. Rohit has 96 Sixes , next best is 57 , thats huge difference.

Sixes don't matter alot if you can take singles and doubles.

Simply unbelievable. Every time he walks in he is looking like getting a hundred.

Rohit is naturally talented like ABD, if he trained hard like ABD he would be ahead of Kohli. Kohli is a consistency freak but he doesn't have the ability to do jaw dropping stuff in a single match. Players like ABD and Rohit have X-factor, you can't have that with training alone.

Although Rohit is getting closer to Kohli every match they play. He's already very close in rating points.
