Virat Kohli on Shubman Gill: 'I was not even ten percent of that when I was 19'

Rayudu was a very talented player. He was held back because Arjun Yadav was the Hyderabad captain. Yadav was a third rate FC cricketer and was literally a goon and a bully. His father Shivlal Yadav was Hyderabad Cricket Association secretary and former India cricketer. Father and Son duo promoted nepotism and only those loyal to them would get promoted in Hyderabad team.

Rayudu was too talented to lick their feets and had issues with Arjun Yadav and was suspended or may be dropped from Hyd team. Frustrated he joined the ICL. Wasted his 4-5 prime years there.

I don't wanna feel pity on Rayudu but thank God we are at least someway out of nepotism in cricket, sad who knows how many players we lost like this.

Wow. I met that Shivlal guy in Chicago a few years ago. Sad to hear Rayudu's story but I am.not convinced he's a gun player. As they say form is temporary but lack of class is permanant. The labored and mistimed strokes along with mental issues tell me he's just a domestic bully all along and is one rung below international level.

Very big words . Puts immense pressure on the young chap . I would be elated if he achieves 3/4th of Kohli .

Ali Asad was twice as good as Kohli at the u19 WC.

That is an impressive piece of trivia. You may be the only person in the world who remembers Ali Asad's U19 performance from more than a decade ago.

That's the great thing about the IPL. People who paying a player crores of rupees care only about performance!

Nobody will know a class act better than Kohli.

This lad Gill looks an outstanding cricketer.

Shubman almost 5 years ago.. U-16.. ,Shaw looks better though

People saying Kohli is putting too much pressure on him by praising him. He's been putting pressure on himself by saying that he wants to be the highest run scorer in international cricket and will try to score more runs than Tendulkar and Kohli. That too at 15 years of age. :kohli

Showed similar glimpses of his class in 2nd test vs Aus which I remember from his initial days.

No doubt Gill is a talent to watch out for, one of the best upcoming batting talents.

I have watched just one innings of his, first thing i noticed was his impressive back lift. Also his stroke play with solid head position while keeping still was pleasing to the eye. Looks calm and composed at the crease as well.

Pretty common from greats to say that a youngster is better than they were at the same age. I remember Wasim saying the same thing about Amir.

Ricky Ponting said Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane played more pull shots than the whole Australian team in 2 Test matches. For Indian to do that against Aussie attack and for Aussie batsmen to not, it’ll be a cop out to say Indian bowlers were good.

That is called hunger for success. I would sleep well for a whole week only on that statement if anything as such was said by an upcoming Pakistani batsman.

Only a career threatening injury will stop Gill from becoming one of the greatest batsmen of all time.

I just looked at his FC average, and it was almost 70 after 24 matches lol. You can say averaging 80 in Tests after one match can happen to anyone, but when you have played 24 FC matches and averaging 70, that shows you are a speciall talent.

I was highly impressed by Gill when I first saw him in the U-19 WC. Him and Shaheen were two players who looked destined to dominate international cricket one day. But watching Gill take on Starc Hazelwood Cummins the way he did was something else entirely. This kid is gifted and then some.

They are not hyping Gill. Even Karthik said the same after his IPL stint. This kid is special. Everybody knows. He showcased at every opportunity. Kohli could have said the same about so many players. No. Check Simon Doull, Alan Wilkins as well. They are also in awe of this guy. What he says is correct. At the age of 19, Kohli was not this good. Kohli became better and better once he started his career.
Predicted well.

This is a bit like Wasim Akram saying Amir was better than him at the same age or Sangakkara saying Jason Roy has more talent in his little finger than he has. Great players tend to exagerrate a gifted player when they see one, but it shouldn't be taken too seriously. A cricket career is a long, long time. Gill should have a great career but Kohli is on a different level altogether. You can't get there being 10% of Gill :rabada2

He is slowly but surely making strides.

A look at Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill's ODI stats after their first 50 innings

The thing that impresses me about Shubman is his SR. He may be FTB/HTB etc but he always scores runs at a high rate. To average 60 and still strike at 101 is impressive. Don't care if he is an FTB, I hope we have more such FTB's in ODIs.

For me he is so easy on the eye. More than Kohli. THere is certain degree of artistry in his strokes.
