Better than Viv in ODI?
Hard to compare across eras. But both of them were far far far ahead of everyone in their respective eras.

While we have never had a player like Bradman in test aka a player who is > everyone in every metric for their era.

We have had 2 in odi which are viv and kohli. Ig the only thing about kohli is that their were players with better strike rates but they dont really come close to his 57 avg which was achieved mostly by playing top teams not to mention his world cup performances.

These 2 should be viewed as Bradman's odi equivalent in terms of being >>>>> Everyone in their respective era

Kohli is not as far ahead of his era as Viv was in his.

He is one of the best for sure. I wouldn't begrudge anyone saying he is THE best either. Was just curious.

He's pretty far ahead.

The ones who come close are

1) Ab de villers : But he's of the older era tbf, his end overlapped with Kohli's peak.

2) Rohit Sharma: Only in India was Rohit comparable or superior. Even then he wasnt superior per say, he was just more destructive but only at home.

3) David Warner: I'm a huge huge fan of Warner but Warner is better.

4) Steve Smith: He outperformed Kohli in 2015 only but he was playing at home soil. The matches held in NZ still showcased Kohli to be superior.

5) Kumar Sangakkara: Again mostly an older gen player, Even so he isnt on Kohli's level hes pretty far.

6) Quinton de kock: A slightly superior batter to warner ability wise but not as good as Warner in icc tournaments. However both are far below Kohli.

7) Purple Patch Bairstow: Again just a 2019 purple patch thats all.

Yes Kohli isn't > in all metrics like viv was as viv had the best sr, avg, highest score, dominated in all conditons.

But the issue is the rise of t20 cricket and the 2 new ball era woth new PP rules has kinda stacked it against kohli. Its extremely difficult for someone to have a higher strike rate over openers and finishers now

And openers have a huge advantage on tonking the highest scorers due to PP rules in the first 10 overs.

But Kohli is head and shoulders > everyone in his era and this is coming from a guy who tears indian posters apart.

No one really surpassed Kohli in odi. Infact even now no one has really surpassed him despite him being 36. People have only ever surpassed him for a few months at home soil or certain series.

Gotta appreciate how good he is.

All formats combined, he is an all time great cricketer and one of the best of this era. Purely in Test cricket, he is behind some names but still he does have the crown of being the most successful Asian Test captain of all time.

Behind some names 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Joke of the century . He is behind a plethora of names

1) Gavaskar
2) Sachin
3) Dravid
4) Shewag
5) Laxman
6) Virat
7) Ganguly
8) Pujara
9) Azhar
10) Gambhir

Not meant to stir up any controversy or unnecessary fan war, this list is purely based on my own experience, players that I have seen playing live. It's exactly the reason why I kept Vengsarkar & Vishwanath out of this list as I know they will make top 10 list from an objective review. I just don't where to put them or how to rank them that's why I kept them out.

Kohli by all means should have ended with minimum 10500+ runs, 35-38 hundreds & an average of 50/51 with the number of matches & innings he got to play. He certainly had the talent for that, but maybe not enough hunger, atleast not as much as he had in white ball formats. If he really had that hunger he would have definitely worked harder on that pathetic "corridor of uncertainty" technic. He is not as naturally "talented" as Viv, Sachin, Lara or Ponting but he is unquestionably the most naturally gifted amongst the fab 4, yes even in test cricket that's how I feel. But unlike other 3, he never worked hard enough to improve his weakness. Players like Dravid, Kallis, Younis or Sangakara were less gifted yet thay over achieved by sheer hard work & will power.

I voted "legend" simply because I don't consider him ordinary. He is a legendary test batsman in the same vein as Inzamam, Clarke or Mahela are.
