Virat Kohli and Pat Cummisn represent polar opposites as test captains, one is calm tactical leader who ahs lead australia to a WTC, and the other is a an agressive captain who made india competitive overseas. Who do you prefr as a test captain? Discuss

Kholi is not even in the same universe.

Cummins is a good captain but he had underperformed. I meant, under him Aus had one of the best pace attack in their history and then add Lyon. So fantastic bowling unit. Then elite level batsman in Smith with some decent support. No series win in Eng, No series win in India, lost 2 home series to India at home. I think he had a team to do better.

Cummins was not captain in any of series they lost at home. He won 2024 bgt at home. During India series 2023 he lost his mother so he had to go back. 2027 series in India, looking at state of Indian test team ,he has excellent chance to cement his legacy by winning in India. Kohli had also underachieved. He should have won Wtc final, england series 2018, SA series 2018,2021.

You are right, oversight on my part.

It will be fantastic if Aus wins in India. It will be 2nd series win in India in the last 50 years.

Yeah I just hope Wtc final chances for India should be alive before series so context of that to 5 match series would be fantastic.

No offence but do SA fans have Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to Ind? Is it IPL money that makes you support Kholi and Ind regardless of the topic? It's nauseating tbh. Kholi is not even in the same galaxy as Cummins as a test player or captain.

Lol Cummins can’t become a better test captain without even winning a test series in any of India, England or South Africa. Winning home tests don’t make you an ATG captain.

Kohli led India to test series win in Australia and made them dominant at home. Cummins hasn’t been tested yet in India and South Africa so he had a relatively easier journey there.

Stop lying, Kholi was not captain when India won test series in Aus. Cummins won WTC.

Kohli and its not even close. He turned below average fast bowlers into world beaters.

:ishant
and world beaters into GOATS. :bumrah

Kohli + Shastri partnership was the highlight of Test Cricket in the last 2 decades. Unlucky not to win the Test Championship, but they dominated like no other, playing the most exciting Cricket out of all teams, notwithstanding the conditions.

Stop getting triggerred when a post is not to your liking.

Cummins will go up in stature despite a shorter track record if he does well as captain in future tours of Ind, SA and Eng.

Cummins has done well but not too impressive given Aus had one of the best bowling units in their history with the best batsman of generation playing for Aus.

For reference, the same for Kohli, Kohli also had the best bowler of generation playing for India but support pacers of India were inferior to support pacers from Aus. Kohli backing pace bowlers made drastic difference when Indins toured. Even some one like Ishant did fantastic under Kohli.

To put it in perspective from Asian captains perspective,

Wins are going to be at different rates in different era , but 14 test wins outside Asia tells how Kohli backing Indian pacers changed the outlook for Indian teams. His influence and results speaks loudly. Cummins is pretty good as well and not far behind.

Cummins has WTC. Bhumrah is not the best bowler of the generation not even close. I am not triggered but you seem to love Ind players like Kholi and Bhumrah to get validation from Ind fans and Savak. Good for you.

Bumrah tbf is the most complete fast bowler of this generation, with an insane sr + avg, though tbf others like hazkewwd also avg 20, with rabada/cummins/jamieson close, about kohli he was a great test batter sometime, but for last 5 years he's been utter crap, and regrding cummins and kohli both are great test captains, though I personally like both personalities, mayeb yeah cummins has the WTC

Josh has cheap 50 wickets against WI. His home and away combined avg against 7 teams( not including WI) is 25+.

He is great in Aus against all teams but not so great when playing outside and averages near 30.

yeah makes sense, cause bumrah is a complete bowler he has his unusual action that angles inwards which can deceive the batter, also he targets the stumps too keeping lbw and bowled in play, while hazlewood bounce can make hima threat early on, along with his metaranomic seam and accuracy, but the thing about bumrah is that he has reverse swing plus his skidding deliveroes that can be highly effective even when the ball is old, while hazleowood really is a hit the deck bowler, his deliveries can be easier to leave, drive/pull etc, also I think he neever really succeded in india because he relies on bounce and seam, and in india or aisa that typical australian length to extract bounce, when indian/asian pitches favour less bounce or are dead wickets, really just ebcomes a half-volley, bumrah actually ahs seam, now has wobble seam,a nd can extract bounce too with his unsual action, also batters have less reaction time now becasue of this, also targets the stumps which is another reason why he even outperfromed aussie pacers on their own turf in 2024-2025 series

Virat Kohli is like Ganguly. Some captains don’t need to win trophies but still have a legacy. He has done wonderful job promoting and backing India fast bowlers in tests. As an Indian I couldn’t believe we had 4-5 bowlers hitting 140+ in the squad at the same time at one point of time. Shami, Bumrah, Umesh, Ishant and later Siraj, even though Bhuvaneshwar had a different skill set of being a swing bowler, even he was forced to increase his pace which did affect his swing skills for a while.

Cummins ahead on the trophy cabinet count though.

It was unpopular opinion and I was getting ridiculed by Indians when I said Kohli would end up averaging 46-47 when he was averaging over 50. :dav

What has Kohli won? :inti

Cummins won an ODI WC and a WTC as the captain. 2 real World Cups. Not Micky Mouse World T20.

Cummins >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kohli.

yeaha ctually made india comeptitive away from home, by making some great pacers depth, and it was first time when india actually ahd a decent to a very good pace attack and let's not forget the agression and emotional attachment to the game and win at all costs mentality with elite fitness standards, I really like cummins too because he has made a calm, tactical and focused culture, aus remains calma nd cool under pressure, and has still achieved a lot, I emean this test team rn is'nt perfect, but aus is still no 1 at rankings and that's saying something

Cummins was efficient and won trophies and has higher win rate; Kohli was mainly a home track dominance guy.
