Kohli doesn't care for records! He only has the intention to win the games for his team and contribute in that! That's it! Now people complain that his record is not good enough! (He has such impressive stat/averages/strike-rates and even centuries for that matter!) On the other hand we saw accusations for Sachin Tendular that he only plays for records (so many centuries - 100s of centuries, blah blah) as if he was not interested in his team's victory and only cared for personal milestones! (One can see the happiness in his face in 2011 when he won the world cup finally! That is the ultimate satisfaction!) Look at the extremes of accusations for these players, and this is the best example of how stupid people can be! So how the hell a player should be for you?
The point is Kohli has a very decent, very good team with him, he is captaining it and he is concentrated in winning games for his team! (Cricket is a team game FYI in the first place!) In the event if he gets centuries, contributes in a big way, then he will be happy for that! But Sachin had a very average, sometimes worst team, so he tried hard to contribute/take full responsibility on his shoulders to again win games for his team (not to achieve personal milestones as you see!) and in the event only his personal stats used to bloat (he had to preserve his wicket perhaps! Because once he gets out - the match is over, everyone knew that!) the inferior players resulted in team's losses, that's why he couldn't even succeed as a captain (during his captaincy we had the worst team ever perhaps! So sad!) And when he eventually had a good team (2011) we won the world cup and only his presence was enough for us to win, he was past his prime and it did not matter (still played a vital role in semifinal! But he did not have many centuries/big scores to show for your liking!)
These players don't even have to worry about keeping their place in the side (They would have done that in the early part of their career! To establish in the team first, so that they can start contributing and take up the responsibility! They will have far & bright vision!) They don't bother whether they get any big scores, they will be only worried about team's victory! Nobody will question how many centuries they got, they will only question if the team is not winning! People will actually won't bother to have these players play for the team with broken fingers or legs! That's how important they are! But as I said everyone (including these players) will be happy if they achieve these personal milestones, because it is eventually going to happen but they are not critical or cynical about that and are not focused at that (And you know what happens if a player only focuses at that and how he declines and vanishes!)
This is what you will understand when you see "Cricket" as a "team game" and not "personal race"! Unfortunately PP is obsessed with player's performance, player vs player comparisons, etc! If players also think this way (personal milestones are important than team's victory) it results in fragile team-composition and leads to a team's downfall! (And I agree there are such players also in the game who think like this, think like these posters here! And they will eventually vanish one day! Only the sane cricketers who contribute to the team properly will survive and will eventually end up with better stats - simply because they will play a lot more games and that's enough to improve their stats! Those who have read Bhagavadgita or Quran or Bible will understand this! Do your work honestly, rest will follow you! Win for your team, personal stats will follow you!)
Anyhow I could see some genuine posters in this forum who do interesting conversations on actual game of cricket instead of these personal stats
