Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar revealed how an unnamed teammate's 'misunderstanding' with a girl during Pakistan's tour of Australia in 2005 led to him being accused of sexual assault.

Akhtar added that he had requested the board to clear his name back then but that he was suspected regardless.

"I was accused of rape then. There was some other boy from the Pakistan team, who had a misunderstanding with a girl. Pakistan team management hid the boy's doing," Akhtar said on a Helo live chat.

"I asked board don't reveal the boy's name, just announce that Shoaib was not there. When that case happened, everyone suspected me."

The PCB did end up denying Akhtar's involvement in the case a day after it camr to light. "The PCB wishes to clarify that the decision to recall him was taken in order for him to achieve full fitness in readiness for the India tour," the board said in a release.

"His recall has no connection whatsoever with the uncorroborated and sensationalist reports relating to an incident in Melbourne."

The incident allegedly took place during the Pakistan cricket team's stay in Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test.

The PCB had also refused to conduct an internal investigation into the matter, saying that with no formal complaint lodged it they could not press any charges.

"Despite the passage of a month, no formal complaint has been lodged either with the police or with the female harassment centre against any member of the team," another press release stated.

"In the absence of a formal plaint there is no legal basis to press further charges."

Apparently some girl was crazy for Razzaq but Razzaq never obliged and reciprocated the same feelings and the girl lodged a complaint of rape, harrassment against him to get even.

What is the point of dragging this up than to create more controversy?

It wasn’t Razzaq. I remember the name had leaked at the time and it was an uncapped player

Exactly.

No cricket, but surely these types of things don't need to be dragged up.

It wasn’t Shoaib, but another pacer .... and it wasn’t ARazzak either. IICRC, six pacers went to that tour - Shoaib, Sami, ARazzaq, Rana Naved, Mo Asif & Mo Khalil.

Not sure, why Shoaib should remind us the incidents 15 years & 6 months later!!!!!!

For someone who has been in the news lately for things he has said, this is not the wisest thing to bring up.

Akhtar has every right to bring this issue up. When he came back from the tour, everyone suspected that it was he who was accused of rape. He is bitter because no one came out in the media and gave an emphatic rebuttal that it wasn't him.

tbf he mentioned this in a PTV show a few years ago. but the thing with those is that its 2+ hrs long and several times a week that many juicy stuff doesnt even make the news

did same player get into several controversies throughout the career?

More like he wants to stay relevant and digging up another dead n buried but controversial issue will help that

It was completely unnecessary - he has many many staffs from his career to share, great, glorious staffs. On tour naughty staffs are not new for players, PAK players are not only one involved in such acts and there were only 15/16 players in that tour and barring 1-2, I can recall all of them just from memory ..... I am sure most can do so; if can’t, one can always check CricInfo. Most of us actually know the player - now after 15+ years, he might be happily married with kids & watching the same program with family .... just for few dollars more, Shoaib is doing silly things here. If others start to return the compliment for him (and they have enough staffs, trust me), this will turn ugly.

It is an attempt to stay relevant. Attention seeking like a little child.

Akther the bowler was great to see in full flow but he's just never grown up. For God sake man you're a budda now, maybe it's time to stop trying so hard to be famous.

What really gets me about Akther is that for all his hard man talk, he will do anything to impress a white player. Just listen to this conversation with Andrew Flintoff which is so cringe. Akther cannot compliment Freddy enough - apparently Freddy alone was the saviour of Akther's whole career. Again this is just the foolish mentality of some of our people where we suck up or look down on people depending on the colour of their skin.

Nobody is accusing him of this now.

I've checked but I don't think he's in prison either at the moment.

The thing is without an official confirmation of denial by higher authorities at the time, people will always talk in the background "Yes he did something back then which is why he was recalled"

Nobody has said it, Akhtar himself has brought this issue up.

News Reports at the time in 2005 did and there was no clarification by the PCB hence people will always have suspicions and doubt that he was the person who was sent back for this

Nothing wrong with making friends by doling out compliments. It’s how he makes fans and earns the friendship of Flintoff etc

I don’t mind him doing whatever he wants. Neither should you. If you don’t like him, don’t watch him. I don’t.

But he’s doing a great job earning Indian fans and acting as an ambassador across the border to show that not all Pakistanis are worth hating.

In between all of this, he makes some really dumb attention seeking comments like the one in this thread. Ignore them.

You just gave a 3 lines definition of sycophancy and said there's nothing wrong with that it! Lol

The way Akhtar talks to and about these white cricketers and also some Indians is disgusting and lacks self respect.

Also, there's no need to "earn" Indian fans. They aren't a precious commodity. Also, what in the world do you mean by "...show that not all Pakistanis are worth hating." Are the for real? Who thinks of his own kind like that? You are suffering from a serious inferiority complex, just like Akhtar.

Its been 15 years The issue is dead and buried Nobody has even accused him of this recently So to bring this up suddenly out of the blue just smacks of someone whos attention seeking

Correct me if I am wrong, it's now 2020.

Akhtar just trying to dig up controversies to stay relevant.

He needs to dial down a bit on his social media exposure. He is talking too much for his own good.
