Never mind the final which they could have lost easily, but entire Asia Cup was carried by Rohit and Dhawan. It's like stars aligning on the right time. When the stars don't align, we saw what happened in CT.

No, they were considerably better than every opposition in the tournament. You cannot fluke tournaments.

What was the ranking of all teams playing in Asia cup?

It wasn't fluke but i get your point.

And that is why I don't rate this Indian LOI team. Havent done for years now.

So many flaws in this side.

They need things to go the perfect way to win a tournament.

Remember, they almost lost to Bangladesh in the finals.

Had we honest selectors and a certain selfless senior, we could hav prepared so much better.

Compare this side to the 2011 side which had to overcome serious adversaries to win the World Cup.

Not a complete team but one that had fight in it.

This team is a joke. Depends on 5-6 individuals to win the game.

Maybe the win against BD or the tie against Afg was fluke. But we hv thrashed Pakistan, not once but twice and that too by 8 and 9 wickets respectively. Surely that mauling cant be considered as fluke. It was like men against boys.

If we lose this series against West Indies C team then fans are going to create other threads like this. :inti

It wasnt a fluke but Pak with their poor performance made it really easy for them as Bng, Srl or Afg had a low probability to win it.

India has 4 good players- Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli and Bumrah. For them to win a game, 3 out of 4 have to perform.

Luckily for them, Rohit, Dhawan and Bumrah were all in great form during the Asia Cup so they won.

Dravid? He suggest youngsters for senior teams

Kulcha.

Kuldeep is consistent.

Off course it was. Most of the neutrals who watched the match would agree that Bangladesh was the real winner.

Indian team is dependant on 4-5 players the rest are rubbish so when those 4-5 people can't get them to win we lose..

This was supposed to be the next step in Indian cricket(sports) but it's the same old story.. Corruption is etched deep in our roots.. We can never be a great team in any sport.. Pathetic

Seems like... can't even beat lowly Windies at home

LOL.We have 2 of the top 3 LOI bowlers in the world in kuldeep and bumrah.
We have 3 of the top 5 LOI batsmen in the world.

Rest are duds sadly. On the rare day these 5 are not enough India falter.but that doesnt happen often enough.

Being best is Asia is hardly an achievement.. Indians are better than all asian nations who play cricket.

But we should not be happy beating teams/players who are inferior to us we should be challenging to dominate the sport..

Well Rohit was the captain. Not Kohli. Rohit is always a better captain. Proved in the IPL several times. Even without Kohli , Rohit would have beaten this WI side.

It will happen often enough when it matters.

Pressure games are pressure games.

We recovered from 30-2 in a WC final to win.

This side will just roll over and lose by 100 runs.

Thats why you need 11 proper players. Teams with too many passengers will choke at some point.

Why don't we award the trophy to the highest ranked side before the start of each tourney?

If you are expected to win and win then it's not fluke. If you play well like Pakistan did in CT for 4-5 matches in a row then it's not a fluke.

Fluke will be pulling off one game unexpectedly.

Our batting line-up is basically Rohit + Dhawan + Kohli + Tail (everybody else).

Good enough for Asia, not good enough for the World.

Beating India is no big deal. Afghanistan came close to beat them. SL beat them in CT. India has a gigantic hole in the middle order. So India should have lost lot more matches. But thankfully their top 3 are in imperious touch. They saved their *** countless times.

Indian fans have criticised their selection policies and failure to introduce more youngsters in that middle order for some time, and I only expect the criticism to intensify with this series where West Indies ought to be 2-1 up. The excellent top three has been carrying the batting for so long.

Dhoni has to go from ODIs too.

No they were the best team because the others played very poorly .

Windies have been the better side in the last two Odis & Kohli bottled it today . Still time to improve before the World Cup

Agree. Top 3 plus Kuldeep and Bumrah.

I'd say this team is their best option for the WC.

Rohit
Dhawan
Kohli
Rahul
Pant
Kedar
Pandya
Jadeja
Bhuvi
Kuldeep
Bumrah

No it was not a fluke. Indian bowling on those pitches will do well.

Bumrah Chahal Kuldeep all avg around 25 or less. Plus Jadeja was very effective in UAE.

The batting is an issue was evident when we drew vs Afghans and nearly lost the finals.

Dhoni and Rayudu are simply not good enough plus playing only 5 batsman plus WK means batting is even weaker.

The selectors and team management have created a crisis.

Chahal is a better pick than Jadeja as he takes wickets. Also Rahul is useless at 4 as he himself is not into it. What a waste of talent that guy is.

It was like the stars aligned....

No seriously India has beaten top opposition consistently, hence they're rated. No fluke. CT wasn't a fluke either. It is strange they are struggling to beat West Indies despite Kohli playing out of his mind.

I don't think it was a good move to go with 5 bowlers today either, especially with Dhoni out of form. Jadeja or Pandya should take the 7th spot, if India play 2 specialist spinners play Pandya, if only 1 then play Jadeja.

Problem is you cant carry 2 useless batsman and then play 6 batsman only.

I sincerely hope they dont drop Pant.

Pant does not deserve a spot in the team as a batsman alone. Either he has to play as a keeper batsman or pick another pure batsman in his place.

This MSD is throwing the entire team off balance due to his selfishness. Retire grandpa. Your team was up 5 years ago. Have done nothing since 2014. Lost all respect form me. I used to be a huge fan of his back in 2008-2012. Such a shame.

Chahal is useless with the bat. He is a one trick pony and if he fails with the ball, he is as worth as a wet toilet roll.

Fluke is when you aren't expected to win but you do win.

Here WI win is a fluke.

Bowling was average, still is.

Yes, others forgot how to hold a bat properly. Do NOT let that misguide you. The IND bowling is very average.

Also - they won because their top order is brilliant.

If the middle and lower order had gotten exposed, I doubt they could have done so well. But that's part of the game.

Their top order was better than combined batting lineups of others.

The Indian team got lucky because the middle order did not get exposed. The openers are good on Asian type wickets but they will not survive everytime against a moving ball in English conditions and then other teams will have the middle order to feast on. The spinners may not be so effective. This world Cup India will be a midtier team and will do well to get to the semis.

At this point i consider England losing a ODI a surprise. They are more likely to be consistent given their depth. No other team has depth or all round abilities. They could beat the crap out of each other on a given day.

India are a better LO team than all the teams in Asia. It wasn't a fluke . But they have serious issues with the middle order which need to be addressed.

Since comeback,Jaddu has done as good as Chahal. His batting and fielding is much needed bonus

They literally have no one ready and someone you can say win matches apart from top 3.

I can name atleast 5 batsman ready to fill the middle order from domestic. For example, Shubhman Gill scoring centuries for fun in domestic cricket. But nothing can be done if selectors continue with Dhoni/Rayudu/other oldies etc.

Yup. But that will happen when they'll get any chance. A team only needs 2 or 3 match winning batsman to be a great ODI side. Which India has but they have all in top 3. That can be create a problem when 2 or 3 of them get our early.

I can only imagine what this west indies team would do on these flat tracks against the other teams in the Asia cup. Chief Destroyer called it ages ago but this group if windies players look like they have real potential and have played superbly. India's middle order is non existent and got exposed. To really test India you need to take out 3 wickets quickly. This windies team showed the ability to d that. It's not India's fault that certain teams in Asia cup struggled to take three wickets across 2 matches. :ashwin Nothing we can do about it if windies are better than teams in Asia cup. Doesn't make Indian win in Asia cup a fluke .

No. India were the best team during the tournament and deserved winners. If the tournament were to happen now they may not win it.

It was not fluke. Indian top 3 are very good , one of them needs to fire for India to do well.

Wait India have Pakistan-like selectors as well?

Off course it was. Most of the neutrals who watched the match would agree that Bangladesh was the real winner.

Most of the neutrals said that run out you keep whining about was clear out. Dont see you admit that

How many Asian teams can confidently say they are better than the Indian team even with out Kohli?

Yes.

Everything that could've gone their way went their way and everything that could've gone wrong for the opposition went wrong.

Their fans are due a reality check, and the next reality check will be with regards to their artificial ODI ranking.

At the moment, they are three levels above other Asian teams and will win the Asia Cup 9/10 times. That is no fluke.

Whatever we have won in our lifetime have all been flukes IMHO.

Never mind the final which they could have lost easily, but entire Asia Cup was carried by Rohit and Dhawan. It's like stars aligning on the right time. When the stars don't align, we saw what happened in CT.

The two strongest opponents for India were:
1) Pakistan. Got utterly destroyed, with their bowlers taking 2 wkts for 404 runs. So beating Pakistan was definitely not a fluke.
2) Bangladesh. Came very close to beating India in the final. However was utterly destroyed by India in the earlier game. So the final victory for India was not a fluke, which is something unexpected. If Bangladesh would have beaten India, then that victory could have been called a fluke because they were thoroughly beaten by India in the earlier game.
3) Pakistan's CT final win is called a fluke, and given that they were quite thoroughly beaten by India the previous game, it may indeed have been a fluke. However, I do not think Pakistan's victory was a fluke, given the wide margin by which they won.

India is the best team in Asia by a country mile. They'll win the Asia Cup more often than not and they were clearly the best team on show in the recent Asia Cup. Definitely not a fluke.

However, they have also been bested not once but twice by West Indies in the recent ODI series that too in their own backyard with a full strength team. And West Indies is missing players like Gayle, Bravo, Russell, Narine. That should be unacceptable.

Well Rohit was the captain. Not Kohli. Rohit is always a better captain. Proved in the IPL several times. Even without Kohli , Rohit would have beaten this WI side.

Absolutely true! If he is the captain he can even step down to No.4 and allow Rahul to open! He has done that to inferior players for his Mumbai IPL team, so certainly he can take such step in International Cricket once he is assured as captain (he maybe skeptical now just as a player)! He can add such dynamics to the team! It will be better if Shastri is thrown out of the group, a better coach comes (it is better to have a foreign coach to combat the politics in Indian Cricket!) and Kohli concentrates fully on batting (he will be even more dangerous if he does that!) Unfortunately all this happens after the coming World Cup debacle! (Hopefully it happens at least then! Then we will be labeled as HTBs again as the next WC is in India unfortunately :( )

Yes it was a fluke, the better team lost in the final. Liton Das was not out but 3rd umpire was eager to make things easier for the Indians. A target of 260 would have been beyond our reach and had Das stayed the target would have been more than that.

The wide margin of victory was precisely why CT win was a fluke for Pak. When was the last time India were bowled out for 150? It doesn't happen.

No, just means WI is stronger than other asian teams

Absurd logic as always. Winning by wide margin means a fluke these days?

Kindly tell us the target India should have been bowled at to not consider that match a fluke? :inti

Thank God Rohit-Dhawan showed up in most of the matches in the Asia Cup, else it would have been a proper train-wreck. This Indian team's composition and batting approach is so flawed, how can we be this incompetent in the modern era?
