Washington Sundar - Performance Watch

I really hope he establishes himself as a proper 40+ averaging bat and with that, I mean a genuine 40 averaging bat who would also hit 10 hundreds in 60 tests. So, a better test batsman than Shakib and Stokes in a long run.

Need to keep him away from T20Is to be frank. We have enough spin bowling all-rounders to play in that format. He has the technique and temperament to be successful in Tests.

He will have better batting and bowling stats than Ashwin if he plays the same number of Tests.

This means that either India is incredibly talented when it comes to producing so-called ATG spin all-rounders, or that Ashwin was massively overrated.
Didn’t you say that Ashwin was the greatest Asian allrounder and that he surpassed Imran Khan.

Washington Sundar has once again become India’s stabilising force, digging in for an unbeaten 33 off 66 balls to halt South Africa’s momentum. With wickets tumbling around him, he’s carried the innings into lunch alongside Kuldeep Yadav, offering India their only real resistance on a tough morning.

Washington Sundar's 6 off Nathan Lyon was sweet to watch, turned his head the other way and smacked a big one. This performance definitely does not have an asterisk next to it :inti

He reminds of Yuvraj at the crease without the explosive stroke play.

Can take over after Ashwin retires too.Hope Ash trains how to bowl

Should replace Rahane as No. 5 in Tests. Gives India an extra bowling option when Jadeja returns.

His bowling is not test standard I see him going the Steve Smith way.

I feel Washi is a serios top order talent and can also be groomed to open....only 21 and has a tremendous future....that six off cummins was straight out of Gordon Greenidge Lords 1984....his defensive technique is terrific, he has the gift oftiming, his back foot play is too good as seen in aus...if anything he plays inside the line which could land him in trouble in swinging seaming conditions in Eng/nz....but only 21 and can improve....Go tamil veeran - washi...:salute

Rahane should be gone. Washington in his place. A LH in the top order is a bonus plus he can bowl as well. Vihari should also be in the lineup as he is a brilliant player of spin and pretty solid against pace as well. He should succeed Pujara at 3 IMO.
Yuvraj Singh, Rahane, Pujara, Chanderpaul and Steven Smith. I mean it's a forum Where we can write whatever we want.
Personally when I see him at the crease it reminds me of Viv Richards.

Bowling compared to Ashwin, Yes why not also...

Indians really don't go easy on forums.

I think issue is India sees him as a bowling all rounder but he seems more of a batting all rounder, basically India ideally expects more from his as a bowler alone (Ashwin or at least quasi Ashwin to complement a Jadeja in his probably last years) as despite his gritty nature his batting by itself isn’t that indispensable considering the domestic options at hands.

Gambhir needs to play Washy at the right number. Number 8-9 is too low for Gordon Greenidge’s second coming.

He still averages 42 and has played impact knocks in Aus, England and India.
That average is similar to Babar Azam btw.

Jaiswal 49
Rahul 35
Sudarshan Don’t care
Gill 41
Pant 42
Jurel Don’t care
Jadeja 38
Washington 42

GG’s tactics will confuse Sundar. I hope Washy doesn’t turn into a bits and pieces cricketer due to GG’s shenanigans.

I think Washy was and still is a bits and pieces cricketer. :inti

He is like Nathan McCullum, Ian Harvey, Mark Elham etc.

Someone who can bat and bowl a bit here and there.

Wash's battle handle alone has more talent than the entire Pakistani cricket team 🤡

What happened to his bowling mate?

England away series - Avg 38( absolute flat decks but pretty fine number given how other spinners fared)

WI home series - Avg 49(3 wickets)
SA home series - Avg 120+ (1 wicket)

Really surprised how he failed to pick wickets at home even in 2nd innings.

Who cares, test cricket is nearly dead in India.

😹

His batting is not impactful enough and his bowling is part time in test cricket. Definition of bits and pieces cricketer.

Not good for test cricket.

He can take Jadeja's role(once he retires) without being as good as Jadeja with the ball.

He can never bat in top 6 or his bowling doesn't warrants him bat below no 7.

We have examples in the past and present where coaches made promising players into bits and pieces cricketers.

Chappell trying to make Irfan Pathan into an all-rounder. Hesson with Saim. It rarely works out.

Washy is a good player but falling victim to the coach’s poor tactics. I am not following the ODI series enough to comment but that’s what I gathered from the test series.
