Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis in Twitter spat over the truth behind sabotaging Kumble's perfect ten

Indians just can't find fault with Wasim.

Even if such thing happened, Wasim shouldn't have made it public. That's like unnecessarily taking a moral high ground to ingratiate public at the expense of his team mate.

Lol, no one is talking about right and wrong. The point is Waqar got baited by masterful trolling by Sehwag, digging out a comment made in 2005!

:amir2

Lets see if Sehwag responds if I send him a link of this thread!

Poor stuff from Vikram, but then again our previous lot may not be the sharpest tools in the shed when it comes to airing dirty laundry out in the open.

Many recent incidents such as Afridi-Miandad, Yuosuf-Ramiz come to mind and now this

Clearly even to this day these two can't get along which is extremely sad :( - I dread to wonder what would've been the dressing room environment when both of them were playing and at their pomp.

why so baised? why not criticize the one who started this? why not say openly wasim is a cheap person for starting such stupid allegations? waqar's response was dignified and tried to keep it humorous.

sehwag is cheap as he has proved on so many occasions....it is not master trolling..it is showing what kind of cheap person sehwag is. he is terribly uneducated with bad manners and looks like poor guy has nothing to do after being kicked out of the team forcefully.

send hom the link and he will respond. he has nothing to do lol

I remember this story but to be honest I'd be with Waqar and give away my wicket to avoid giving someone the perfect 10.

Besides I think Wasim is just trying to secure an IPL contract.

Finally someone with some honest response, its a natural instinct in humans. Players are no saints and neither are the fans.

PS: IPL wasn't even thought of in 2005.

there is needle between the two from ther days playing together, probably stemming from tem revolt against Akram, if i remember correctly never the same after that point. akram has aways been critical of Waqar as côach,

Don't remember who was the English captain at that time but did not England declare to stop Saqlain from taking all 10 wickets. I think he ended up with 8.

Well you would expect a team to declare anyways by the end of first session on day 3.

You mean this game:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63899.html

Who wouldn't declare when the game in its first innings is already in first session of the third day? So England instead of trying to have result in the game should have continued to bat so that the opposing bowler can have shot at a record.

Yes.

Waqar Younis, who was back then touted as the second coming of Bradman with a mighty average of 10, was struggling to get out to arguably India's best ever pacer, despite his best attempts

LOL, exactly!!!

I was like, since when did Waqar became such a batsman that he can deny a bowler (and his partner in crime [Jayaprakash]) his wicket on a day when he already got the rest of the team in his bag?

Wasim bhai is great. Always speak the truth.India respects you Wasim bhai. :wasim

Whats the point of digging something from 2 decades ago with absolutely no proof? Only Wasim and Waqar know what happened.

Both are legends and should never indulge in these kind of mud slinging over twitter. Serves no purpose but gives some fodder to News Outlets to spin even more stories.

How about you ask that question to the Troll WannaBe Paindoo aka Sehwag!

Waqar shouldn't have risen to Sehwag's bait, he was always going to be on a hiding to nothing here. And yes, if I was playing that match I would have done my utmost to throw my wicket away too to deny Kumble. I actually remember rooting for one of the last pair to get run out. Anyone taking the moral high ground about an India-Pakistan match is lying through their teeth.

Nice to see them on good terms.

Where is the love button?

And Sehwag finds a way to come and troll the duo in the middle of it all. :91:

Lols it's not difficult to find that way, you only need to be a clown, and Sehwag is doing it perfectly.

It takes two hands to clap.

This Wasim - Waqar relationship seems to be a tinderbox that'll be ablaze with the slightest spark.

you can tell Wasim n Waqar have a love hate relationship like a pair of competitive brothers.

'I will not get out to him' - Wasim Akram recalls being Anil Kumble's 10th scalp in 'famous' Delhi Test

From being India's highest wicket-taker in Tests (619) and ODIs (337) to leading the Test team later in his career, Anil Kumble achieved great feats during his long international career. But the record of dismissing all ten batsmen in an innings is something that sets him apart. In 1999, Kumble became just the second bowler to scalp 10 wickets in an innings of a Test match. The leg-spinner created history against arch-rivals Pakistan when the two teams met in the second Test in Delhi.

Chasing a big target of 420, Pakistan had crossed the 100-run mark without losing any wicket. Kumble first scalped the big wicket of Shahid Afridi and ended up creating history. The India legend scalped the first six wickets in 14.1 overs and followed up with another four wickets in the next 22 overs. Captain Wasim Akram, who led Pakistan to a 12-run victory in Chennai, was Kumble's 10th scalp.

Remembering the record-breaking day, Akram said that he never thought about denying Kumble 10 wickets but he did not want to be his 10th scalp. “No. This is against sportsman's spirit (desperately getting out another bowler). I said to Waqar Younis that you play Anil Kumble, I will not get out to him. As a captain, I told Waqar to play his normal game and go for shots against (Javagal) Srinath. The first ball Kumble bowled... inside edge...and I got caught. It's a big day for India and Kumble. It was massive,” Akram said on Aakash Chopra's youtube channel.

Muttiah Muralitharan (nine wickets vs Zimbabwe), Rangana Herath (nine wickets vs Pakistan) and Keshav Maharaj (nine wickets vs Sri Lanka) came close to joining the elite list after Kumble but they missed the mark by just one wicket.

Jim Laker, who was the first player to dismiss 10 batsmen in an innings, had scalped 19 wickets in the historic Test match against Australia in 1956.
