What's new

Wasim Akram joins Karachi Kings as President

Personality clash with Afridi, so understandable. Can have one or the other not both.

Conflict of Interest? With Azhar, Mickey, Misbah and now Wasim with various PSL teams?

Bring in Sarfaraz as captain, enough of pandering to the underdogs, they should get a new captain

What the hell is a president? I mean a coach or a manager makes a bit of sense but as 'president' isn't he going to be the face of the team? Why would KK want Wasim a Lahori to be the face of their team?

Sport transcends geographical boundaries.

Yes I am curious whether this position existed prior to his appointment

Wasim Akram is the true Ehsan Faramosh. Jumps from one franchise to the other for extra $$$

Afridi was also the President of KK.

Now see that makes sense. You would want Afridi to be presented as the face of Karachi Kings. Wasim on the other hand is not only a non-Karachite but hails from the rival city of Lahore.

Sure hire him as a team coach, consultant or manager but president doesn't make sense

It’s time to bring Sarfaraz home

What does the president of a cricket team even do?

He lives in Karachi. So ....

All these useless titles of Presidents, Ambassadors, Mentors etc. Sounds more like the UN than a Pyjama league.

True. A few tweets. A few comments and very little work.

I assume their thinking was they needed someone with the marketability of Afridi, without using up one of their platinum/diamond picks. In that sense, it's a smart move.

This. He should be da man to lead Karachi. Dont get the thing about afridi. Yes he can contribute as a cheerleader doing promoting work. As cricketer he is finished and will get tonked all around.

This jobs for the boys syndrome needs to be ended as soon as possible.

PSL needs the best guys, not the biggest names.

I think it is a shame if someone like Wasim is taking on a symbolic powerless role.

The second thing is that now that he is part of the PCB Cricket Committee, isn't him taking a position in the PSL a conflict of interest?

Im sure he will be heavily involved in the team, its not like wasim to sit back and let things happen.

He lives in Karachi. So ....

But is he an iconic Karachi cricketer? Like Javed, Afridi, Younis etc.

I am pretty sure Wasim would be considered an iconic Lahori cricketer who settled down in Karachi.

The thing is president isn't a cricketing role. Having him as a consultant, coach or manager would be absolutely fine but I feel the president should be someone who screams Karachi.

Waqar Younis lives in Australia. I don't think many people will appreciate him being the president of his city's BBL franchise.

He used to, not anymore. get your facts straight.

President.

Some of these roles they create are ridiculous.

Didn't play Test cricket after playing only a handful of FC matches?

So everyone is Wasim Akram then? Thinking like this is why Pakistani fast bowling is in the state it is in. Throwing these young fast bowlers to the wolves in Australia could have done irreversible damage to their career.

Wasim Akram is a brand. You cannot make player of his stature a coach or a manager it would be a disgrace and an insult..President of Karachi Kings sounds just about fine although i would have preferred if he was appointed Sultan if Karachi Kings.

Wasim is Pakistan cricket's true king. Hope he says with Karachi long-term.

He is just collecting cash without offering anything.

It is shameful that someone with an illustrious cricketing career who has subsequently made mega money for his analysis, is playing a part in a massive shambles.

Seriously, what does Wasim do other than being a boundary line cheerleader. He should be criticized for the poor selection of the squad.

When results aren't going your way, everything is questioned.

I think his role is more about managing and keeping the gelled rather than assemble one.

That role is of the captain and coaches.

The title President means he is in charge of everything at KK from choosing the coaches, players and deciding who is captain. If he has no authority then he should step down from the post. It makes him look bad to be collecting a lot of cash and not being held responsible

300k a year for what you are describing is basically robbery.
