It goes without saying that Pakistan has been tremendously lucky to have had these two world beaters bowling at either end.

But how do they compare with each other? If you were a test captain and were asked to choose only one of the two, who would you pick?

Here is my choice:

For seaming greentop wickets I would pick Waqar any day.

For every other type of wicket, I would go with Wasim.

The pre-injury Waqar Younis of early 90s was a beast of nature. He was marked as the next big thing, the next Malcolm Marshall.

But as have injuries done to many a sportsman, he wan never at his absolute peak.

To your question: I'd always choose Wasim Akram over any pacer anywhere :) The cricket royalty :wasim

For a match - Waqar
For a series - Wasim

Both were amazing.

Outperformed each other at times.

Wasim did better in varied situations than Waqar.

Peak Waqar was the most fun bowler to watch though.

Wasim without any doubt. As respected and dangerous as he was in the late 80's as he was in 2003. Waqar could not bowl an effective yorker to save his life at the end of his career.

Waqar. Just look at his record. Perhaps the most attacking bowler we ever had.
Wasim, probably a better limited overs bowler.

I had the privilege of watching both these blokes in tandem during the late 90s, since 1997 to be specific. Even though both of them were almost spent by then, they were still arguably the World's Top bowlers.

I can only imagine how they would've bowled during peak years. Personally I am someone who used to imitate Waqar Younis a lot and have a similar slingy action even till today so my choice would be :waqar

On the other hand :wasim bahi was just pure freaking genius.

Wasim Akram was among the top 3 bowlers almost his entire career and that starts from 1984 all the way to 2003.

Waqar was at ATG level mode only from 1989 to 1994.

Wasim won Pakistan a world cup. Waqar lost it for Pakistan.

There really is no comparison here. Wasim >>> Waqar

I pick both.

With a gun on head, I'd ask if it is loaded or not. lol.

Both at prime was too good to be ignored. Can't pick a single person for a match.
+++
For a career it has to be Wasim.

I would drop a bowler in the squad to accomodate both. Both are way too good to be ignored or sidelined.

I would drop a batsman :)) if i had to fit 2 W's , Saqi, Shoaib, Razzaq etc. Great players.

Waqar Its a shame what injuries did to him but at his peak waqar was phenomenal

Wasim for sheer longevity and master in both formats. Also he seemed to be the more level headed of the two, certainly one who would fit easily in a team sport. But you guys were indeed lucky to possess these two greats at the same time.

Wasim, he won his country a WC.

Nice personality too.

Wasim Akram , those who played cricket in that era all will say Wasim.

He was most gifted bowler produced in Asia.

Wasim can bowl yorker, bouncer, both side swing and seam, slow , .... Everything

while before injury Waqar mostly bowl In swing, yorker, beautiful bouncer, but lately develop out swing.

I am not in my nerves while deciding who's in and who's out but in my time i like Waqar most because of his attitude towards batsman. He looks to kill him and that's what I like the most.

So Waqar in......

If i needed a wicket and had wasim and waqar at my disposal id turn to waqar 9/10

Not to say wasim wasnt in his league or anything Wasim was arguably the better more rounded bowler and would be picked more often in a world 11 but waqar for me is the go to bowler who makes things happen

You cant argue with his test and odi strike rates He was a force of nature

As I am an England fan I would say Waqar who was always lethal against them.

In 1992 Wasim was similarly effective but after that I felt England could handle Wasim.

Yep Waqar was excellent in the 1996 series too but wasim was below par

Wasim over his career, but Waqar was a freak of nature for that short period from 1990 to just before the 92 WC

wasim any day, however its impossible to talk about his career without the darker elements of his actions, his stats which are no doubt affected by.

against non-minnows wasim had 350 test wickets at 23.7, waqar had 275 at 25.2. waqar was a pace demon, once that went he was a good bowler, but not top tier.

waqar in this era, under constant camera scrutiny would have fared even worse. wasim by contrast would likely have had better stats, if his career would have survived his misdemeanors.

I think the England batters learned him. He played ten years at Lancashire so they had a lot of time to work out how he operated, how long his spells were and so on.
