Ehsan Mani at a media talk:

"Some changes have come but we need to do more. I said from the first day that I want to keep a professional board, cricket is a professional game and it needs to be run by professionals to improve cricket"

"In that process, some people themselves realised that time is up for them and they should do something else. With regards to our academies, we want to spread the program around the whole country, not just have it at Lahore at the NCA"

"We want to have 6 centres of excellence around the country. The development programmes will begin with 16 year olds, then U19s, A teams, etc. Our sporting culture, fitness programmes, dietary requirements need to be started from a young age, when we see youngsters have the potential to play for Pakistan. We have to make them professional sportsmen"

"For that, we need to bring some changes in the system and we need new people"

"We can't build relationships with other countries sitting here that can be built with person to person contact. When you sit with someone, meet them, eat with them, confidence builds. SL has come to Pakistan because they have confidence. When people come and talk to us, we trust them and act accordingly"

"When Wasim and Zakir Khan went to Australia, they had meetings with the officials. We came to a decision with them that post 2023, all our series in Australia will have at least 3 Test matches"

"We spoke to NSW's academy and we will send 3 players to them on a scholarship basis regularly every year, so that our players get the opportunity to play in their system"

"So these things (visits) aren't joy rides, they aren't for enjoyment"

"Wasim Khan became Chairman of the Cricket Committee when Mohsin Khan stepped down because he himself was interested in some PCB positions. But Wasim Khan is a full time employee of PCB, his influence could be very heavy in that way"

"I want the committee to be completely independent and it should have former international cricketers who can give advice and do critical analysis. They should have access to all levels of cricket, domestic and international. They should be able to talk to the captains and coaches, they should be able to challenge our senior officials. They can ask Wasim Khan, why did you do this. Talk on wickets, pitches, grounds. Wasim Khan is also accountable so it wasn't suitable for him to be running this committee"

"Mudassar Nazar contributed a lot for Pakistan cricket. He had a 3 year contract. When his contract ended in May, I had been here for 6 months and Wasim for 2 months. I thought he should continue for another year and he also agreed for one more year and we're continuing with that. His contract is up in May 2020 and he himself informed us that he doesn't wish to continue after that so we will move forward"

"We haven't decided about bringing in foreigners or hiring locals. I do wish for us to have Pakistanis. But it's a fact that academy programmes in other countries are way ahead of us. We can take expertise from them and we can keep someone as a consultant for advice, but the people who will run the academies will hopefully be Pakistanis"

Seems that Ehsan Mani showing signs of irritation with Wasim Khan - could work in Pakistan's favour if it means Wasim pulls up his socks.

If you read the full article, then the headline seems to be out of context. He simply said the job of the cricket committee is to hold the PCB accountable, including Wasim Khan, hence he isn't on the committee.

Atleast 3 tests in Australia after 2023, pakistan dont deserve any!

They're doing all the right things to build structure. Just that blunder of appointing Misbah is gonna ruin a lot of their work.

I'm not certain that that is fair.

I am appalled at the situation in which there is an unqualified Combined Chief Selector And Head Coach, who is already indulging all the least attractive sides of his personality that we have long known existed.

But from what I was told in Adelaide last week, Wasim Khan no sooner took the job than he was taken hostage and told that his orders were to create a figleaf process by which both jobs could be given to Misbah.

I think that the power behind the throne - and I was told that that was the PM - expected that Misbah would behave the Imran Khan way:

1. Dump the failing guys in their thirties (for Majid Khan and Mohsin Khan and Zaheer Abbas read Azhar Ali, Sarfraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq).

2. Build the team around mediocre guys in their early twenties (like Imran did with Rameez Raja, Saleem Yousuf, Saleem Malik and eventually Ijaz Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed and Aaqib Javed).

3. Only pick guys in their teens or thirties if they are genuine potential global superstars.Even then, for every Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis or Moin Khan there was a Zahid Fazal!

Unfortunately, Imran has completely misjudged Misbah.

Misbah is never going to adopt the Imran Khan playbook of twenty-something journeymen (Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Sami Aslam, Zafar Gohar, Ehsan Adil) forming the core of the team.

Misbah thinks that the core needs to be men in their thirties, and that a 30-something mediocrity is the ideal player.

And it has predictably turned into a disaster as he tries to clone 11 Misbah-ul-Haqs.

Wasim Akram likely to become PCB Cricket Committee Chairman

Wasim Akram likely to become PCB Cricket Committee ChairmanKARACHI: Pakistan legendary former fast-bowler Wasim Akram is likely to become the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB)’s Cricket Committee. The former speedster is currently a member of the committee while the post of chairman was recently vacated by PCB Chief Executive Officer Wasim Khan. According to sources within the PCB, Akram is leading the list of candidates for the position. The PCB had earlier decided to make the Cricket Committee an independent body by only including former cricketers. Pakistan’s head coach-cum-chief selector also left the committee after being appointed into his dual role for the national side.

The PCB has also started the search for other members of the committee while Wasim is expected to be the only PCB representative in the new structure of the committee. The PCB is expected to finalise the new committee within the next two weeks. The committee is expected to hold its first meeting before the Men in Green’s series against Bangladesh. The members of the committee will be working without any financial gains. They will, however, receive allowances for participating, hotel and daily expenditures. The committee will be allowed to call upon the head coach along with other officials who are responsible for the team’s performance.

Wasim Akram has been getting preferential treatment since IK became PM.

These are bad signs for our cricket.

He can’t.

Justice Qayyum banned him from office for life for matchfixing: he specifically directed that he be stripped of the captaincy.

And that was in spite of Qayyum’s “soft corner”.

Imran Khan is our PM now. Wasim Akram, Cousin Zakir Khan and others will be untouchable. Rules will bend now. :)

He is a legend no doubt, but is so far detached from Pakistani cricket in real.

He knows very little about upcoming players or debutantes. It's cringe-worthy when he is in the comm box when other International commies know more about young Pakistani prospects than Wasim. Most of them do their homework/research, Wasim bhai is living off on his rich and very deserving reputation. Simply goes with the flow with next to little real input.
