Apparently during the recent England vs India match, the female commentator said that we could see the two teams playing the final next year. Upon which, Naseer jumped in and said that 'watch Pakistan sneak in and win the WC'.

I would have not posted it if it had been from a nobody but as its from the great Naseer, it really makes me glad.

Do you agree with this comment? Do you think Pakistan is the dark horse in the next WC?

That would be fun. After winning last years CT, I don’t think we’ll start as the dark horses.

Its a surprisingly comment considering where India and England currently stand. Consider by us all as the best two sides in ODI's today, but mentioning takes nothing away from these two teams or any other international team. Pakistan always have a surprise factor in tournaments, sometimes they do well and sometimes they do downright awful. Pakistan like other international teams are yet to find there perfect eleven and also have some tweaks to make to the squad.

I totally agree. Pakistan team might not be the best at the moment not because of potential but because team is young and inexperienced.

But, being inexperienced doesnt mean that they cant beat the best sides as there is some tremendous talent in the current Pakistani side.

Uhmm both India and England are way overrated. They have many weak points. Pakistan would beat both teams in ENG im sure of that.

Nasser is an astute student of the game and a well-known fan of Pakistani cricket.

Although a lot has to go right for them to win, if it's one place they can win, it's in England during the summer.

Pakistan can win like other Teams.

They need to sneak into semis , and then its couple of good performance . Also , they would need some luck at right moments . They certainly can win.

Can someone list the combined number of ODIs that Pakistan players have played, in comparison with India or England? I'm sure even with Malik's marathon numbers, the number of matches played will be considerably lower

And to think this team is being considered as dark horses

India and England are currently the best ODI teams. However Aus,Pakistan,NZ and SA are also competitive teams.WC is a big tournament and all teams will be under pressure and will have to play well.

We have a chance.

England and South Africa have a pedigree of choking in knockouts, while Australia don't look all that good. If we get to the knockouts and avoid India, we have a good chance.

If we meet India before the final, we're out.

If we meet India in the final, 50/50 on us breaking our hoodoo.

I disapprove of the word 'sneak in' because all teams understand how dangerous they are especially after the CT 2017 triumph. In my book they are joint favorites along with Australia and England.

'Sneak in' is a term for teams like Sri Lanka or WI who are underdogs but can play roles of dark horses. Example: India in 1983 sneaked in as did Australia in 1987. In all other editions either the favorites won or teams among the top 3-4 contenders.

I would say this is Pakistan's world cup to lose. After a good decade they have a team to beat.

Pakistan does well when they are expected to loose matches.
Here now people expecting them to win.so pakistan might surprise you again at next cup. Pakistan is known for surprising factor as their ranking over the years tells the same.
India england these two are 200 percent semi finals. Those posters who are saying that england and india are over rated dnt know cricket at all. These are two best sides and when these two sides play then one team will loose definately as the first two odi shown.
When india beaten england in first odi people said england are iver rated and when england beat in 2nd odi people said vice versa.
Pakistan need to play big boys and lets see then where do they stand.

200 percent :))

I hope you are here to face the chin music if it doesn't happen

I love to see it, but the batting lacks quality to chase anything decent. Making the SF would be a great achievement

Just goes to show how big a fan Nass is of Pakistan cricket

Hopefully Malik and Hafeez aren't regulars , then we will have a really good chance.

This is actually a possibility but I believe teams will be better prepared next time around.

Pakistan would be favs if somehow Sharjeel comes back and make an explosive partnership with FZ.Below will be the team to beat:

FZ
Sharjeel
Babar
Sarfaraz
Haris Sohail
Faheem
Malik
Shadab Khan
Hassan
Amir
Junaid

Faheem needs to go up in batting order to learn how to build innings or make way for Asif Ali
Haris Sohail can play as an accumulator
Malik has played enough games in his life and should not be facing more balls, and should deliver from ball 1.

Amir Hassan Junaid forms good trio of bowlers with variety, and pace. Usman is injury prone. And in CT, Junaid complemented Amir very well. And good thing about Junaid is, he dont bowl too much bad balls in early overs, which Usman could do

All Pakistan needs to do is find an opener for Fakhar, rid of Hafeez and Malik with young able replacements and introduce an attack of Shaheen and Gohar.

Doesn't surprise me.

Both Nasser and Mike love Pakistan. One of the few English who would not mind visiting Pak either. Atherton has even been there to interview Imran Khan.

It a going to be a long tournament. This actually works out for Pak as we get better and build momentum with each game. It takes us a few games to figure out the ideal XI and for our players to hit form but once we do, we will be the team to beat. I expect us to easily be at 3rd or 4th of the table to get into the knockouts and once we're there, we will need to make it count

We got 1 more season of PSL before the worldcup. Insha'Allah another few hard hitting batsmen will be found

I'm banking on a favourable result in the elections, upon which Sethi would be sent home and hopefully Sharjeel's ban would be revisited. I hope he is keeping fit and be ready to fly out on a moments notice.

You want to reverse a ban on a fixer because you hate Sethi?

I want the complete facts which Sethi hasn't given despite claiming that he has them. If the facts indeed show he fixed then I'm all for upholding his full ban, however, I have an inkling that the "facts" are very shoddy otherwise they would have been revealed by Sethi at the first opportunity. Also go back and see the two balls that Sharjeel allegedly fixed to play dots on, on the second ball he hits a cut shot which either side of the point fielder would have resulted in a run or two, hardly a shot someone would play who is looking to play out a dot.

Batting isn't good enough, and I'd like to see how our bowlers do in upcoming series. Some guys clicked perfectly for the CT, but I don't think we'll get so fortunate this time round.

I would say Pakistan have a strong chance hopefully they find the right combination before tournament starts even if they kinda have a slow start they can sneak through the semi finals, and than from their its anyways games, some key performances will have to come from the opening batsman for sure.

When expectations are high pakistan always perform the worst... So m guessing pakistan will be out in first round of the world cup...

India are a well balanced side when at full strength. England have some good sloggers and bat deep but lack good pace bowlers. I would say Pakistan can beat England in ODI's - the best team would win on the day, certainly not a foregone conclusion by any means.

NH is looking for a PSL contract.

On serious note, Pak does not need to sneak in, they are red hot favourites to win 2019 WC final for me.

Pakistan only ever seem to win big tournaments when they are completely written off. So, if you have any hope for them whatsoever at the start of the tournament, they won't win. Still, if Nasser did indeed say this then you need to take notice - he is rarely wrong.

Thanks Nasser <3

Expecting this thread to be bumped exactly a year from now :yk

Pak always has a chance. If we can win the Champions Trophy here then can do the WC as well. We are contenders for sure.

Pakistan imo right now has the best team since 99 wc. They can compete with any team if the bowling stays on point and batting doesn't collapse.

Idk why Nasser said they could sneak in and win it, there's probably only 4 teams that can win and one of them is known to lose it when the pressure is on them.

No one in NZ or SA is expecting anything from their teams in the WC. WI, SL, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are just there to make up the numbers.

It's India/Australia's to lose, they always seem to show up for the WC.

Only if our winning will effect the Indian team's qualification to the knockouts.

ICC's revenue is heavily dependent on India going to the last stages.

So you are fixing since 1992 to till now in around uncountable world cup matches which you lost ?

But again what benefit did Sethi ever achieve by banning a no-body like Sharjeel? :13:

Why would he go to such lengths to hide the "facts"?

we should make sure Asif Ali is ready for WC . Pakistan need a lower order striker like him
1. Fakhar 2.Imam/Azhar 3. Babar 4.Sarfraz 5.Malik 6.Asif 7.Faheem 8.Shadab 9.Amir
10. Hasan 11. Junaid 12.Raees 13.Imad 14.Harry 15. Shaheen

Yes.Nasser has always been a polite man towards Pak cricket.I am not surprised about his comment about WC.He likes Pak cricket.I also agree with Nasser. If WC is played now I shall put Pakistan ahead of every team to win it.But another year to go.Long time.Any change can happen in this period.

Thes second quote gives goosebumps .Though i am from india but i still feel that pakistan has some days where even a team of gods won't defeat them. It's a result of sticking to basics and raw passion.
Pakistan surely has a chance in the next world cup, i hope that the pakistan which turns up that day(ind vs pak match) is the one to be ashamed of.

Who was the female commentator in this clip?

I wasn't watching as I had a cricket match of my own but I'm sure it would have been Isa Guha.

Personally, of course Pakistan can win the World Cup, they won the CT last year and the WC is the same teams as in the CT last year as well as West Indies and Afghanistan who aren't gonna win it anyway.

Pakistan cricket at its best*

Sneaking in is a wrong weird term for CT champions. It should be used may be for Afghanistan imho

Pak fans appreciated NH’s comments but were criticizing MV’s comment about India, wonder why?

In my opinion this team will be more competitive if somehow Sharjeel retruns with good form

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Sharjeel Khan
3) Babar Azam
4) Sarfaraz Ahmed
5) Haris Sohail/Shoaib Malik/Agha Salman (We need 6th bowler)
6) Asif Ali
7) Shadab Khan
8) Faheem Ashraf (Needs to improve his batting asap)
9) Hasan Ali
10) Muhammad Amir
11) Shaheed Shah Afridi/Muhammad Abbas (He'll be good in English Conditions IMO)

15) Junaid Khan/Usman Khan Shinwari

Good team. If Sharjeel does not play, Babar Zaman should go up, Haris at 3 and Shoaib at 5. Maybe worth playing Nawaz ahead of the fourth pacer to give us even more batting depth

Nasser has always been a well-wisher of Pakistan cricket.I’ve always liked his commentary.

Hopefully Pakistan do go on and win the World Cup.It’s going to be really tough,as there are several other good teams and we’ll play against all of them.But,ability-wise,this team is right up there.Just need a good second opener to partner Fakhar.A second keeper(Umair Maqsood)and a second spinner(Gohar) should also be in the squad.

For Pakistan to win the WC we need another batsman that the world fears. For now we have one-and-a-half such batsman. Fakhar and Asif, half because Asif has the ability but still has to prove himself. If we get another such batsman then nobody can stop this team since our bowling is already the best in the world and would restrict teams to sub-par scores more often than not.

What a silly post. You would want Sethi, who is prolly the best PCB administrator to date, to go for no reason?

I thought Pakistani fans would have learnt there lesson in the spot fixing scandal in 2010 but i guess not all did. Saying that Sethi deliberately hid facts and what not just reeks of pure conspiracy theory and nothing else. What advantage would Sethi have by hiding facts about a nobody like Sharjeel?

This Pakistani team is fragile and rookie.

1st round exit is a real possibility and my biggest fear :D

It's all about getting in Semi Finals. From that point we can have realistic chance of lifting it. But right now, we are struggling in Powerplay overs vs Chatara and co :yk
