Here are some thoughts. People always complain but there are no reasonable solutions.

Follow U.S based laws - governance, constitution, division of power, separate laws and accountability across the system. No one person or department has power to completely override the system. Make the prime minister only a figure head like the queen, not influencing any decision making.

1. Have 8-9 major cricket academies or clubs in the country from which the talent will start. Maybe Sindh abd Punjab get two - based on population. 20-30 million people per academy. Must have one in Baluchistan, Kashmir and Sarhad.

2. Open and free trials for anyone interested. Start as early as under 11. Introduce hard ball early. Discourage tape ball cricket.

3. Groom them in terms of behavior, dressing, language, even if they don’t play professional cricket - atleast they learn basic life skills. Cricket comes after. Coordinate with schools that this is a student athlete and will be on a different schedule.

4. The operating manual and strategy at each of these academies should be the same, so there is consistency, and it’s updated based on evidence and evolution of cricket strategy, technique and equipment.

5. Make all interested kids members of the club, assign them chores. Make them cut the grass, paint the crease, participate in upkeep of the ground and facilities. Cannot instill ethics and hard work until you reach them these basic things which will make the respect the institution. This will also help bring the elite, rich class of young players in the same field as their common man and teach them decency.

6. Recruit top 25 players in each academies based on tiers. Novice, intermediate and advanced. Play against each other. Get that pool to 150-200 nationally just from these academies. Then strengthen competition more and more. Select 25-30 creme of the crop for pakistan’s representation.

7. Involve departments as financiers, so they have stake in the game. But they can not determine or influence selection nor pick teams.

8. Keep long term local coaches and staff. People with long term vision and good character and no bias. Make committees with people who have opposing viewpoints and diversity in opinion to encourage debate.

9. Payroll- outsource to a 3rd party. Taxes. Salary all needs to be disclosed.

Have three annual competitions. One for tests. One for Odi and for t20.

Forget international cricket for a while. Create a big domestic market. That’s what South Africa did. England has always had that. PSL is a start but it’s cosmetic. It doesn’t reward first class cricketers. It should be the other way around. Need to have quality in domestic that will only improve psl, tests and ODI
