Mushtaq Ahmed speaking about the ongoing PCB all-rounders' camp:

"We have been unable to find all-rounders like Abdul Razzaq and Azhar Mahmood; this is why we are are here to try and work on the technical and mental aspects with these all-rounders"

"This will allow us to fix the balance of the team"

"This will help us in improving our LOI rankings and also help us build a better team"

"We have called in the best all-rounders we can get; This is not the place for Under-19 or Under-16 players , instead we have called in players who have performed well and on whom we have a lot of confidence in"

"Only when we believe in them will they start believing in themselves"

"We have players like Aamer Yamin, Fahim Ashraf and Ammad Butt who have to be developed now to perform in international cricket in the same way as they perform in domestic cricket"

"The idea is to make them believe that they can play and win games for Pakistan"

"There is a big need for a fast-bowling all-rounder at the moment; We already have a few good all-rounders amongst spinners such as Imad Wasim, Bilal Asif and Shadab"

"We need a fast-bowling all-rounder who can bat at the number 6 positions in Tests and LOIs and contribute to the balance of the team"

"We are looking for a bowler who's a good batsman"

"We need good bowler who we can rely on for batting as well and how can do power-hitting also"

"This is what Abdul Razzaq and Azhar Mahmood used to be good at as they would come in at number 7 or 8 and get you those 50 odd runs"

"What we need is a good bowler, who can bowl his 10 over quota and can be relied upon when we need runs at an average of 7 or 8 an over"

Did he basically just say the same thing in every single way possible? Something which is abundantly clear to anyone who follows Pakistan cricket anyway.

Although, in my opinion, we do not necessarily need a fast bowling all rounder in ODI. I mean it would be great to have one but not essential. We already have three spinning allrounders in Hafeez, shadab and Imad plus also Malik. This gives us the luxury of playing the three best fast bowlers regardless of their batting ability. Far more crucial to get aggresive openers and a hard hitting lower order batsman.

However it is important for test cricket, we are in dire need of an allrounder, however he needs to be someone who can get in on his batting alone, I don't think we have anyone like that who is still an effective bowler.

So what Musthaq Ahmed (a leg spinner) can teach Yamin, Fahim and Amad (all pace bowlers)?

Why not let Razzaq and Mahmood lead the camp? They were arguably two of the best all-rounders in the world during their heyday who can give both valuable insight and coach some of the youngsters.

Pushing it a bit by claiming Azhar was one of the best all rounders?

Do other countries have to do special camps like these to find all-rounders? The domestic system is failing us big time

To be fair, Mushtaq is one of the more honest, competent and sincere people in Pakistan cricket so let's not needlessly bash him.

However I don't see what's the big deal about Fahim Ashraf. His batting is nowhere near international standard whilst his bowling is OK but nothing special.

Amir Yamin is the best candidate as far a batting AR is concerned but I do worry about his bowling. Beyond a couple of overs with the new ball he doesn't offer much threat, you wouldn't want him bowling a full 10 over quota in an ODI.

He makes great points, and he hits the nail on the head when he says that there is a need for a pace all-rounder who can bat at #6 in both Tests and LOIs. That's exactly what we need.

Now let's see how long that takes to get implemented.

.....How are they going to develop ? If you do not play them in match situations live !

We've been hearing about our need for a fast bowling AR since the England series, but nothiing has happened, it's been 9 months... Lets hope something happens now.

They are trying bro.

They are carrying Fahim, since
, WI series. I hope, he gets a gane against SL, if there is a need for 4 seamers.

This, this right here is the problem... give say yamin a couple of series and see what he does with the opprtunity/role provided in the series... then you take him back to the nca and fill the necessary voids... but just taking them into these useless camps without any substance or live action is of no use...

Also, if your performers of domestic are unable to translate into international scene, then sir, that tells you there is something wrong with the standard of the domestic.

We should develop them as soon as possible.

As per my knowledge, AR's will be groomed by playing them in match situations. Not by these camps.

Eg:Hardik pandya bats at 6 or even 5.

Yamin bats at 9. Amad at 10. Fahim at 9. Then, how would you develop them?

Where as, the so called AR's who don't have any future, whatsoever, bats at 6 and 7. Anwar and Tanvir.

Coming to the individuals.

You have 4 seam AR's.

Tallat
Yamin
Fahim
Amad

1.Tallat is a batsman who can bowl. But in pakistan domestics, he would be played at 7 as a bowling AR.

He's the one who can make it count. Has genuine potential like Mathews and Watto.

2.Yamin says he's a bowling AR. But, he can never bowl more than 4-5 overs in internationals. The sooner he accepts and convinces the selectors that he is and wants to become a Batting AR, the better for him. If not, I don't see any future for him. As, his bowling is just not good enough, atleast for internationals.

3.Fahim has a good future, as a 4th seamer in LOI's. Unfortunately, pakistan plays 80% of their matches in Asia. Either Fahim has to go out of his comfort zone, and prove he can be a good 3rd seamer, or sit on bench and wait for the chance(When 4th seamer is required).

4.Amad is the poorest of all. But has potential, more than Fahim as bowling AR. He has the ingredients for a Frontline seamer, height, physique and pace. And ingredients for a hitter, Physique. But, he's extremely raw atm. He was there in PSL 1(in company of Waz(AR), deano, Mahmood(AR), Watto(AR)) and in PSL 2 as well. But he's not improved a bit, since PSL 1. How can u not improve after having company of Waz, mahmood and watto for more than 2 months.

So, all 4 can be good AR's, but depends on their work ethics(which pak players usually are not good at) and how PCB grooms them by giving them added responsibilities like asking them to bat higher and to bowl more overs in real match situations(again, for which PCB is not known for).
