After getting whitewashed by a weak Sri Lankan team in T-20s, I know that the emotions are running high for the Pakistani fans. As expected, the entire blame has been shifted to Misbah. However, we must not forget that Misbah has inherited this mess from Mickey Arthur.

Let's consider some simple facts:

1. Pakistani team has a non-performing captain who has not done anything of note in the last 2 years. Mickey showed no concern working with him.

2. Mickey backed fake all-rounders which has backfired big time for Pakistan.

3. Mickey did not groom a single spinner in any format. This includes tests which is shocking considering the amount of tests Pakistan play in the UAE.

4. Mickey left unstable teams in all three formats. Going into the ODI world cup, none knew who was going to open the bowling for Pakistan. Can anyone tell me who are Pakistan's openers in tests or who is the third seamer in any format?

5. Mickey did not identify any backups. He was content with playing with the likes of Malik, Hafeez, Azhar, Asad, Yasir, etc with no replacement plan in sight. He played first choice teams in almost every series no matter how weak the opposition was.

6. No player has improved under Mickey. He has not produced a single world class player for Pakistan. Even the players who started strong at the time of Champions Trophy are fading fast.

7. Last but not the least Mickey contributed heavily to the delusions of Pakistani fans. He overhyped mediocre players to the moon. These players started to believe in their own hype. No wonder, it did not take long for them to get exposed.

It is not wrong to say that Mickey has left Pakistan cricket in a very dire state. It is wrong to blame Misbah for immediate results. Misbah is trying hard to fix these problems by:

1. Telling Sarfraz to start taking more responsibility as batsman.

2. Testing different combinations against a weaker team by giving games to Abid, Hassnain, Shinwari, and Nawaz.

3. Trying Akmal and Shehzad as Hafeez/Malik replacements/backups.

4. Selecting Iftikhar who is easily better than the fake all-rounders and power hitters than what Mickey played for over 2 years.

Misbah has taken the right initial steps. Pakistan fans need to show the same patience that they showed for Arthur.

On the other hand, Misbah has already been blamed for the following within one week:

1. Lack of runs from Babar (this one takes the cake)

2. Poor influence on the team aka tuk-tuk batting

3. Trying different combinations against a weaker team

4. Running anti Imad Wasim campaign

The hate against Misbah is sickening. I truly believe that Misbah is the right man to solve the current crisis of Pakistan Cricket. He has done it before (no off-field controversies, #1 test ranking, ISLU success in PSL, etc.) and he will do it again.

Everyone deserves a chance but not if in their first series taking the team back 5 years.

Misbah has never won anything as a coach, hasn't coached at any level before let alone Int cricket.

Yes he is a nice guy, talks well and remains clam but isn't an immigration officer helping to increase tourism but in charge of the Pakistan cricket team.

He will be sacked after the T20 world cup.

I don't know if Misbah is the right man to take Pakistan cricket forward but all the points are valid.

So what? Misbah had enough time to try out newer talent he chose to go with Mickey’s team. Do not forget Misbah has more power than Mickey ever had. He is the chief selector, batting couch, and head couch. The responsibility for this is ultimately on him. There should be no excuses. As for the Test thing we’ll figure that out once he coaches there. Cause there is this myth going around he will do better than Mickey.

Don't want to go off topic here but I like one quote from the movie Chakde India that there is gotta be only 1 gunda in the team... Misbah is too soft for being a coach.

True. But Misbah had a really good opportunity to demonstrate more clarity and a change of direction. Bar a few things, there is almost nothing positive about this series.

Misbah took a calculated risk. He kept the core of the team but brought back some discarded players at the same time.

Only two of his selections went wrong. Akmal, specially was unfortunate considering 90% of the PP would have been in the favor of his inclusion in T20s.

Iftikhar, Abid, and Shinwari, all won least one game. Hasnain who had been carrying drinks for a while got 2 games.

What more do you expect from the coach in his first assignment?

He did not need to take a calculated risk by playing Mickey’s team. This was the perfect tour to try out a new team he instead chose to stick to Mickey’s team. The guy’s safety first approach got him the backlash he got.

As for what do I expect? I expect a fresh mind, a fresh team. I expect to see something different in the selection of players. None of that was present in this tour. Heck if he lost this series with a new team of fresh faces I doubt we would be complaining.

Some really good points raised.

People want someone to blame and now they have found Misbah rather than realizing we have been a pretty mediocre team with a pretty ordinary captain for sometime now.

Yes he inherited the #1 ranked T20 side in the world. What a disaster!

My question is was that mickeys job or the selectors job. All these points would be valid if mickey was a selector, not a coach.

Eh? We have been pretty ruthless in T20s, in the space of a week he has ruined the team's stability by bringing in 2 failures.

Yes Misbah inherited this "mess" but I can guarantee you if Mickey was still the coach this "mess" of a team would have won the T20 series 3-0 regardless if they are a fake #1 side or not. You just don't get whitewashed at home to a B Team.

Mess? Say what you want about the test team but our LO side was steadily improving, and Mickey managed to drag our batting to the modern era. On the other hand, Misbah made the great accomplishment of sending us back 10 years in a single series by selecting the likes of Shehzad and Akmal.

Is Babar not a world class player and did he not improve under Mickey?

Our t20 ranking is not fluke as we have been number 1 for some time now, the guy make disastrous changes to the already performing side and made a mess of it in just one series.

Look through the posts and see the level of disagreement and conflict. And this is people looking in from the outside, just imagine the fraction that must exist within the team!

I repeat again, it was the most stupid and shortsighted decision by the PCB to remove MA at this time. We have been set back 5 years! Be ready for another extended period of chopping and changing with no positive outcome.

No excuse needed to lose against the weakest Sri Lankan team. It was a damn whitewash. Embarrassing stuff.

We were extremely good in T20I when Arthur was in charge

Loser and coward Misbah brought in the likes of Shehzad and Akmal that drained the life out of our team

I have to agree with this...

The real difference is Under Micky we became no.1 (Eventhough according to some people its fluke but not later than 4) but under Misbah we will be no. 12.
Team like Zimbabwe, Ireland and Scotland can beat us in our home series.
If we play against Afghanistan it will 3-0 wherever we play.

We did not inherit a mess fromm Mickey Arthur!

Misbah inherited the no.1 T20 team in the world. It is his own fault that he selected failures like Umar Akmal and Shehzad. Our best player (Babar Azam) has been forced to open the innings even though he is best at the no.3 position. This was done to accomodate failures like Ahmed Shehzad. Pathetic strategy from Misbah and we were rightfully thrashed.

It was a fake, bakwas ranking. We bashed minnows and teams that were testing new players out.

So what was our actual ranking in T20 under Micky 6, 8 or 10? If its yes than our current team is even worse.
Any of Ireland/Zimbabwe/Scotland can beat us in our home soil quite easily.

Cannot believe Misbah's ******* keep boasting and rubbishing our no. 1 rank as if we beat Australia, NZ, England's U15 teams along with teams like Nigeria, Japan, Qatar types teams to be no. 1

Fan boys are finding excuses for their savior. I wonder do these people actually even support Pakistan. If you want Pakistan to do well this shameless clown needs to get kicked immediately. He got rid of Mickey so he can humiliate himself even more but he's shameless, so it doesn't affect him. Just listen to his responses.

Exactly!!!!!!
Now they are rubbishing the ranking as if we were no.10 in T20 but when we will be even worse these people will still defend their idol.
Should make a statue of their idol and admire him rather than messing our cricket. These people are not real supporter and you will not see their comments when Pakistan plays

Blind fan boys. Would blame mickey for the loses, but they don't want to blame misbah and now even mickey is gone they are blaming him. This thread should be put in a gutter.

Misbah should immediately come up with Babar Kohli, Faheem Klusner, we have passion type comments to become PP's darling overnight.

Micky mastered the art of playing to the gallery which is why despite tenuring some of Pak's worst humiliation still celebrated by fans as some kind of saviour.

If your coach can't communicate and when he does its monotone and selects Akmal and Shehezad like its a personal favour over a phone call then how can you possibly compare this to a world class coach who led a minnow team like us to an ICC tournament win?

What we will see is in 12 months Misbah and Waqar will be gone and will hopefully be replaced by competent, straight talking non Pakistani coaches.

Mess? They were not this poor, they would not have lost 3-0 at home against this Sri Lanka side under Micky

Nonsense!!!! What coaching skill Misbah has? Not even Zimbabwe will take someone like Misbah in their coaching set up. He can only coach for masters league where he can recycle veteran players again and again and don't need to find excuse to stop debut new players.
He even cannot dare to debut a single player against SL D team whose main team is very poor in International ranking.
Same goes with Waqar. The guy was a robotic type of bowling machine and didn't have any innovation/intelligence when average batsman like Jadeja scored 40 runs in his last 3 overs more than a decade ago. I would rather take Prasad over him as bowling coach where with limited amount of talent he did far better than him in the World Cup and coaching career.

Garbage.

He inherited the world’s Number 1 T20 team from Mickey Arthur, with 11 straight wins.

He then increased the average age by around 5 years.

Misbah never had an eye for new talent or captaincy.

He was an accidental captain in 2010 after match fixing debacle. It was ill thought out and he should not have been made captain. We are still suffering the consequences of this promotion.

Whatever mistakes you do as captain increase tenfold when you become head coach and selector.

He should spent his playing days in domestic cricket after being dropped in 2007 after T20 debacle. Mohali would never have happened, Hafeez/Ajmal cheater due would never have happened. We would have had a fresh young team by now higher in the rankings.

All this could have been avoided.

But Mickey Arthur inherited the mess left by the two in charge now, Misbah and Waqar.

I know which team I preferred from the 2015 WC and 2019 WC.

The excuses are real...

Misbah had the chance to chop and change. The perfect chance in fact. Yet he chose to play it safe, he does not have the guts to take bold decisions.

He didnt have to answer to anyone. Team lost the WC he couldve removed sarfaraz as easy as he brought back two TTFs...

Misbah is to blame here, this his fault for choosing to continue with a non performing captain. Mickey said fire sarfaraz before he left.

Misbah didnt take any risks at all. If he had taken some great risks there wouldve been some great rewards.

Sarfaraz needs to go simple as that.

No one forced Misbah to retain the non performing captain. He could have and should have been decisive in removing him but no! He's a buddy and thus remained. He brought back the two "match winners" only to get booted out in shame after the second match.

There was no need to play the likes of Wahab Riaz, preferably giving a chance to some youngsters and I could bet you that the defeat would not have been taken as angrily if that happened. Or even, we could have won the series or at least a game.

If Misbah brought some fresh and young players in , I would have more sympathy for him. His selections were poor and he deserves critiscm for them.

No way would we lose 3-0 with Arthur still in charge tbh.

There would be no Shehzad and Umar Akmal for sure.

I partially agree that Misbah should not be completely blaimed for the whitewash in T20. The chinks in the armor were visible in the last leg of MA's tenure.
Misbah so far hasn't shown any innovative steps to change things drastically. Anyone really interested in improving this team will remove the captain as a first step. I would still give Misbah 3 months to show some results.

It was a fake, bakwas ranking. We bashed minnows and teams that were testing new players out.

Seriously take off those Misbah specs for one second, what really matters is now we can't even compete with inferior sides like this SL B/C team. Let me remind you under Mickey Arthur, we whitewashed a full strength Sri Lanka team 3-0 in the T20I series this time of the year in 2017.

The only thing that I see is "bakwas" is your shameless cheerleading.

Micky Arthur was doing fine... this mess is just the beginning created by Misbah….and his backward thinking. His poor team selections just underlined the fact he is lost.

To lose 3 - 0 to Sri Lanka in T20's shows there is something really ingrained in the team setup that is wrong. It will continue. To be the best you have to win everything... meaningless games as well as big tournaments.

This team will not give 100% to win every game. especially lesser games.
That was the ethos Mickey Arthur was bringing in. He had got rid of many of the hyped crap players.
Malik and Hafeez were next for the chop.

Wasim Khan... I expected better.

Don't blame Mickey Arthur, it wasn't him who selected Akmal, Shehzad, Asif, Ifthikar in the batting line up, it was Misbah.

Misbah did a very poor job both as a selector and as a coach - 100% of the blame for this loss lies with him, not some former coach

Mickey Arthur as a coach had many failings. By all accounts he was mediocre.

But if we were acceptable in one format that was T20s(regardless of factors which helped him) so bombing our first T20 assignment after Arthur leaving is not ideal

It’s too early to say if Misbah will be better than Arthur or not.
But I am very sure the fielding skills and emphasis on player fitness will drop under misbah. So Arthur was a win in that department atleast.
The fielding from Pakistan was shoddy in the recently concluded series against srilanka

I have been reading numerous posts regarding what a magician, tactician and fortune changer Mickey was. People say that he took Pak from 7th to 5th in ODIs and mention it like he conquered the world and did what Bayliss did with England.

However the reality is Pak only was able to beat WI, Srl and Zim in ODI series and that along with CT 17 and Aus performing poorly in white ball cricket during that time led Pak to no 5 in the rankings. So is it really that big an achievement people make it out to be? Also not to forget Pak was no 6 in ODIs when Mickey left. So he actually improved Pak couple of spots in ODIs due to the reasons above and lost much more spots in test rankings.

So what exactly has Mickey achieved which have made many people fan of him? Yes he had the ability to play well to the gallery and understanding of emotions of Pakistani people. I guess people were happy with the fact that he said Shafiq is our Tendulkar, while Faheem is our Klusner and other such comparisons.

Who should have and shouldnt have replaced him is another topic but I am just trying to understand how and why is Mickey rated so highly without any performances except T20 run and CT 17 to back it.

You can make all excuses you want but we just lost to a SL C team and got whitewashed at home.

No way under Mickey would this have happened..

Excuses? For what? I havent used word Misbah here and I have no problem if he stays or go, my points are regarding Mickey Arther and why he needed to go.

This way Waqar's fan club can say, there is no way Pak would have lost 0-2 to Srl in UAE and lost that last match against NZ.

And just before people start saying that he selected youngsters I should make it clear that he didnt rather PSL provided him the shortcut which none of the coaches before him had. Fact is Mickey wasnt able to find any talent himself and that can be validated by the fact that he selected almost no player outside of PSL in LOIs.

Last time we won full five match series against top team was against NZ 2010.
Micky had issues in test but he was fine in lols.

The way we lost to WI in the World Cup opener was much much worse. And that too on the back of the most preparation we have ever done for a World Cup

Under Mickey, Pakistan was whitewashed by SL in tests and Australia C in an ODI series. The hammering Pakistan received in New Zealand and Asia cup are some of the worst performances I have ever seen in my lifetime of watching cricket.

It is a myth that Pakistan improved in ODIs under Mickey.

India, England, Australia, and New Zealand have given this team a beating of a life-time in last one year itself. Even one of the worst South African team of all time beat us in our last ODI series with them. Bangladesh will beat us in Asia and we will beat them outside, see results of Asia cup and World cup matches. The only teams which has gone below us is Sri Lanka but even they have a valid excuse. The retirements of Sanga and Dilshan has been a big blow for them. West-Indies and minnows have been worse than us but even then we huffed and puffed against Afghanistan in our last 2 games with them.

The way I see it Pakistan is still exactly at the same place where we were 3-4 years ago.

Garbage.

He inherited the world’s Number 1 T20 team from Mickey Arthur, with 11 straight wins.

He then increased the average age by around 5 years.

How do you explain this or do you want me to do an analysis of how many times Fakhar, Asif, etc scored less than a randomly picked number in a T-20 game?

It was a great performance by our team considering we were fluke no.1 in T20 and won matches against Australia, NZ, England because they played 3rd division league bench players and also not forget we won good matches against Japan, Singapore, Kenya like teams.

It was a great and aggressive batting under Misbah by our batsmen specially Shehzad and Umar Akmal was a victim of bad umpiring in a tough batting pitch against top 3 ranked team. Also don't forget we left out 2 of the best all rounders Hafeez and Malik.

Our team is too young and we need some experience players like S Tanvir, Kamran Akmal, Gul in our team ASAP. Hopefully if we play like this we can reach to no.12 very fast.Congratulation Misbah.

Arthur was a poor coach. But he was very good at playing to the gallaries. He hyped up players and the fans were happy with it. He should have been sacked long time back.

Now PCB made a bigger mistake, made Misbah coach plus selector. Basically he runs the team. There is no one to disagree with his methods. No counter opinion.

Can anyone tell me who were the other contenders for the coach's position?

Dean Jones and Waqar Younis. The latter pulled out when PCB shortlisted it to Misbah and Deano and is now the bowling coach.

Sarfaraz and the regional team coaches can voice their opinion, ultimately when it comes to the playing eleven, the captain should call the shots. When it comes to the squad of 15, the chief selector calls the shots

Mickey instilled a system where players could only play based on hard work and fitness, of course there's going to be games where we will lose but that's what is needed for us to move forward. Misbah is only taking us backwards.

There was a reason Mickey did not allow Umar Akmal into the playing XI. A lot of posters here believed that it was his bias but their subsequent selection and performance by Misbah must have cleared up the misconception by now.
