"We need a policy to make sure that the first priority should be for the country" : Misbah-ul-Haq

Misbah at a press conference:

"It's an important series and we're thinking of winning the match, as we were thinking in the 1st match"

"We need to put a lot of effort in the bowling to get 20 wickets, until we get the other team out, how will we win matches"

"The performance was satisfactory, in fact excellent, Abid's hundred and the way Babar is batting but we need to do better with the bowling"

"When you bring any player in the squad, you do it to strengthen the squad. Whenever we feel that we need Fawad, we will play him. It's not necessary that it will be in this Test or the first Test but we will look at how we can make our best combination"

"We will hopefully make a policy soon about this because this can be a problem for Pakistan going forward. When you invest in players and they should give preference to the country and they leave and go here and there, I don't think that's right. You put resources, play them and make them. I think we need a policy to make sure that the first priority and availability should be for the country"

"It's important for the media to speak up for performing and deserving players but at the same time, it's important for us to see what the team requires and where we need players. Often when you're looking from the outside, you can't see the finer points which the management can see. Sometimes we look at long term or short term planning and make decisions accordingly and that's not always understood from the outside"

"The phase that the team is going through, there are areas we need to work on. We need to develop our bowling. In Test cricket from the last couple of series we've played, a few things were obvious, we lost 3 matches in SA then we lost home series vs NZ. To settle these problems, you have to focus on a long term basis. I want to focus on the long term and make sure that betterment and improvement is permanent, not that we think about 1-2 series or matches and then my successor faces the same problems"

"It's difficult to pick a team but we can only play 11, or we can tell SL to play 16 (so we can also). You can't make decisions in a hurry, we want everyone to get a fair chance and where we can give someone else a chance, we can try. Kashif Bhatti has been with the squad but we haven't had a chance to play 2 spinners. Haris has one bad match but his performances in 2 Test series before were good so we are trying to give him chances instead of writing him off. Azhar Ali has performed as well, he didn't perform in the last 3 matches but he has scored in every country. It is a concern that he is out of form but we are thinking positively"

"The teams that play more cricket and play a lot of matches at home have advantage in WTC. Lesser matches mean lesser opportunities which is a problem for us. We will try to win matches whenever we play to get back in the WTC race"

"Both teams know each other quite a bit and we play in similar sort of conditions so both teams have an idea about eachother"

"The most important thing at this point is that if we look at our batting, the way they batted in those conditions in Australia. Babar Azam's batting is the biggest plus, the way he stepped up in Australia and also made a hundred here. There is a big shift in his batting, we knew about white ball cricket but he is dominating in Test cricket which is a big plus for Pakistan. At the same time we have a young bowling attack and I think it's a big positive, the way Shaheen and Naseem bowled. Consistently hitting 140+ in good areas. They have a lot of time and they can develop into match-winners. They are bowling well now and with improvement, I think Pakistan will find two very good bowlers in them. These are the big positives for Pakistan"

"My instructions before the series was that we wanted supportive pitches for the pacers. Previous pitch did help the pacers and on this pitch hopefully there is some grass which helps the pacers with a bit of pace and bounce. But with Pakistan's weather and the conditions here, sometimes you can't get the type of pitch you want. Hopefully the pitch plays according to our requirement"

"Spinners play a role in Karachi because you get 5 days so you can't remove the spinners from the equation"

"We are hoping that by the time the England series starts, our team specially our bowling has a set combination. The development process is happening right now. Even if we don't have matches, we need to give players experience through camps, etc."

"Spinners' role in Rawalpindi has never been prominent and we knew that we will get around 70 overs of play per day and 2 days would be washed out. Our only chance was to bowl first and bowl them out cheaply. I was satisfied with the decision to not play a spinner in the 1st Test"

You also need a policy to make sure that convicted felons and career criminals are banned for life.

We also need a policy that unqualified coaches are not selected like yourself in future. We also need a policy that rubbish players like azhar are discarded rather then awarded captaincy. We also need a policy that rubbish oldies and friends are not selected. Shameless guy.

What was your priority Mr. Haq, when you refused to retire at age 44 and led the team to many disastrous tour including downunder, it was not a country first policy.

can somebody explain the below please...

Haris has one bad match but his performances in 2 Test series before were good so we are trying to give him chances instead of writing him off

I mean he played the same stroke FIVE times to get out...how can you forgive someone like that..if that was Shezad or umar akmal the knives would have been out big time...

Why this guy forced his way to a coaching job, which is a technical position!!!! He talks lot of sense which goes with his cricket, Captaincy & MBA background; but he is not a coach, I doubt ever will be and he doesn’t have the eye for talent either, at least till now.

I see a better future in him as CCO/Director of PCB or even CEO; and his work ethics can be a role model for youngsters at NCA; but I don’t think Coach Misbah’s career is going end happily for PAK.

Hahaha, excuse me when have you made country your priority

Still not able to forget Misbah's grin in a World Cup Semi final of 2011, where Pakistan was able to bowl out India on low score of around 260 and this genius first dropped catch of Tendulkar and then batted slowly and selfishly while giving a grin and losing to India.

Apart from few jokes in this country no one accepts this crap or believes you or that imported administrator Waseem Khan represent Pakistan.

Exactly. Misbah as an administrator and overseeing the big picture stuff (domestic cricket, A team/U19s) makes sense.

However he has no qualifications or experience as a coach and for all his talk of long term planning, his chop and change selection policies so far smack of short termism.

He did decently in the two series previously. One poor match doesn't warrant removal, but he is running out of time considering he's already 30 years old.

Convicted felons, career criminals? think a little OTT.

Amir and Asif are both convicted felons and Asif is a repeat offender (Sounds less ott than career criminal I suppose). PCB lost a tremendous amount of reputation and credibility the day the fixing trio were allowed back to cricket. You do not mainstream criminal activity in sports, never.

.

Even if he progresses with qualifications and continues to gain experience, what good is it when he has a low cricketing IQ? There's a reason why he doesn't have much flexibility in his thinking.

Misbah is rightly getting ripped apart for his pathetic attitude at these press conferences. Giving sarcastic and unprofessional replies to genuine questions. Really poor stuff.

The policy regarding players stopping playing Test cricket is an afterthought.

A more professional organisation would have made plans for such eventualities instead of whining about it afterwards.

Man I am disliking his press conferences day by day. The way he tries to make excuses for everything and the way he mocks people who go against his decisions is very unprofessional.

Says the guy who prioritized himself and his selfish average over the betterment of the nation thus causing the team to lost many times from the winning positions?

The definition of irony may need reconsider I am afraid. :jf

Misbah has always put himself first, not Pakistan cricket.

And his patronizing attitude is getting really tiring.

He talks sense mostly. Let’s see how we do with the selection for the game. I would respect him a lot more if he would highlight how the senior batsmen haven’t stepped up for the last two years.

Lmao, this dude is hogging 4 jobs at once but puts the country first.

We're "thinking positively" every time it comes to his favourites.

This is where i have to salute India who even though Sreesanth was a good bowler. India said nope goodbye we got bumran, kumar, yadav and shami.

I'm fully against Sharjeel making his comeback obviously he learnt nothing from the spot fixing scandal of 2010. There's a saying "greed will imprison us all", just be thankful you still get to play franchise and domestic cricket but hell no should he comeback to the international stage.

If this shameless guy wants to put the country first, then he should resign with immediate effect taking Azhar and Shafiq with him.

Aamir showed what priorities were in 2010. PCB bent over backwards to get his guy back in the game and look how he repays.

If I was in charge of PCB, I would thank him for his service and show him and door and rebuild the team from ground up with players who are 100% committed.

Azhar has failed in just 3 matches?

Poor guy’s been failing since 3 years.

Dump him for good.

Amir knows full well that his Test bowling style will only succeed outside Asia. Playing in Asia just wears out his body.

He had a very sensible private agreement with Inzamam and Mickey that he would only be picked for overseas Tests.

Instead of whinging about this, why didn’t Misbah just ask him to make himself available for the World Test Championship series in Australia, England and New Zealand?

We have treated him like a King ever since he came back from his ban and we continue to do so. I think his body is just fine as he is not known for getting injured again and again. Please correct me if I am wrong, but was not he bowling like a gentle medium pacer in those test matches played in Asia? His workload could have been managed easily, but he himself has never been interested in playing test matches and that's the reason a news came out couple of years ago that he wanted to retire from Test cricket, but I think somebody from PCB spoke to him and told him that his image will take a hit if he retires from test cricket at the age of 25.

Isn't much better when he's still retiring in his late 20's.

There performances has been poor in Test. This feel like a new excuse from Man of 1000 excuses.

Now expect Misbah to blame these two bowlers if we lose the second Test.

Problem isn't amir or wahab problem is the management, we never rotate players or build a bench strength we have 11 favourites and no matter what they will be in the playing 11. We don't have replacement for wahab and amir, we didn't have replacement for misbah and Younis, we didn't have replacement for Saeed ajmal, there was a long period of time when we didn't have a replacement for Abdul razak so we were going without a fast bowler all rounder. We don't even have a replacement for Malik and hafeez. The management is slowly distroyed Pakistan cricket. Every new selector that will take over will go for a complete overhaul rather than working with and building upon what the previous selectors have left. Problem isn't amir or wahab problem is the ego inside people like misbah.

As far as I am aware, Australia is outside Asia :) And Amir retired before a Test series to Australia.

Glad Misbah is thinking along those lines.

Taking 20 wickets is the biggest issue for us right now. And bowlers leaving.

Should start some steps to lure the young bowlers away from T20 leagues.

New excuses to divert attention from poor performances and selection. Don't select players who are not playing all formats and set a precedent.
