"We need to ensure that we professionalise the PCB as much as possible" : Wasim Khan

The biggest problem Mani and Wasim have is that whatever 'good' they feel they are doing, ultimately they will be judged by what is happening on the field.

That is the real truth. And honestly, good administrative changes to a certain degree should reflect on the field. Andrew Strauss's appointment as ECB's director of cricket brought good things for English cricket. Hopefully the same happens for WI soon. It shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

Maybe because the pay is not good enough for them and they don't want to spend many months of the year in Pakistan?

Wasim Khan isn't a magician that coaches are just going to see him and line up at PCB's doors begging to be Head Coach.

But the thing for PCB to do would've been to identify some candidates and try and get them on board and then choose the best. By basically identifying Misbah first then putting up a half-hearted public advertisement, the process was compromised. Even if Misbah was the best of the available options (don't rate Deano too highly either).

I know the PCB wasn't receiving very many applications for various roles. But did they actively do any headhunting? Isn't the job a good CEO to find the right people for the job? Delegate? I just find it hard to believe that when Afghanistan and Bangladesh manage to rope in high-profile coaches, Pakistan can't even step outside the NCA.

Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan were good hires.

They've done a lot of good work in changing the system and the groundwork is there for long-term success. In fact, the dual-role (coach + selector) was also a smart idea.

Unfortunately, hiring Misbah was a horrific mistake.

You can't give someone with limited experience such a massive role especially in Pakistan's setup. He doesn't even have enough experience to be a good coach(and compensating with a PSL gig won't help) let alone take on two roles at once. If they had selected someone with years of professional coaching experience, the added selector role would have worked wonders. It would have allowed the coach an opportunity to take his methods and implement them with the right players.

In this situation, Misbah doesn't even know what his coaching style is. Instead, he's still learning on the job and by the time he figures things out, Pakistan will have plummeted to minnow status.

Waseem Khan has trolled our padosis to full extent. He brought no change and further powers are concentrated in the hand of single overlord Misbah... he was one of the most insipid person to play for Pakistan...good for us accross the border as he helped us win two world cups..dark days for Pakistan ahead

Yeah that's what I meant as well. It seems as though the Misbah appointment was decided in advance, even though the committee which was in charge of choosing the coach recommended him anyway, because the other options were dire.

When the whole process was initially happening, I thought PCB would look for some external options but it never came to fruition.

And frankly, Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani both deserve to be immediately dismissed for this alone.

If you talk the talk about professionalism then you need to walk the walk. And appointing someone unqualified and inexperienced to two combined roles should be a dismissable offence.

I’m head of my Department in my Hospital, but it’s a small hospital without, for example, a cardiac surgery unit.

If we wanted to open one we would need to find someone both qualified and experienced in the field. Yet the PCB appointed someone who was completely unqualified and inexperienced for the job.

Mickey Arthur would be a viable candidate for any National Team coaching job in the world. If Misbah applied to be the Coach of Sussex in England or Otago in New Zealand - let alone their national teams - he wouldn’t even be offered an interview.

Misbah’s appointment as either Chief Selector or Head Coach would be an absolute disgrace. His appointment as both is beyond disgraceful, it is scandalous.

No probably means that in some paan shop but not in any proper organization. You do not 'dismiss' people on the first sign of trouble.

Wasim Khan is doing an excellent job in bringing fresh ideas and they need time for them to be judged.

Top level management as in Head Coaches do not necessarily need specific qualifications and the management is within their rights to take such decisions.

Unfortunately there is a problem of personal like/dislike when it comes to Misbah - thus all this wailing and chest-beating.

All is ideas are copy from England. His professionalism is just for show.

This is the Pakistan tv style of comment - am sure you can do better than that?

Another problem is that some in the media will not give Wasim Khan a chance as he is not someone who will hand out back-door freebies to the media.

Pre-select a candidate even before the advertisement takes place does not mean professionalism. I saw lots of youtube video claimed that Misbah will be new head coach and that time Micky was just sacked and not advertisement took place.

So far Wasim Khan has been trying out of the box modern ideas in Pakistan Cricket i.e. 6 first class regional teams, no toss rule in domestic cricket, he also wanted to appoint just one person as the head coach and chief selector and the only person who could play that role among the local candidates was Misbah as he had the best up to date knowledge of the first class system and players. The same position could not have been given to Dean Jones given that he did not have knowledge of the domestic structure in Pakistan or the players.

Four new independent members appointed to PCB’s BoG

LAHORE-The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed four new independent members to the Board of Governors (BoG) during the 59th BoG meeting held here at the National High Performance Centre on Monday.

The BoG, in accordance with PCB Constitution 2019 Clause 12(1)(c), unanimously approved the appointment of Javed Kurieshi, Arif Saeed, Aasim Wajid Jawad and Alia Zafar. Two of the new members - Javed Kurieshi and Arif Saeed - have been appointed to the BoG for a three-year period while Aasim Wajid Jawad and Alia Zafar have been appointed for a two-year period. Following the appointment of the four independent members, the new BoG has been formed. The remaining three members on the BoG will be appointed following completion of the election process at the Cricket Association level.

Speaking on the occasion, PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said: “I want to congratulate and thank all the respected outgoing BoG members for their outstanding contributions to Pakistan cricket. Following promulgation of the new PCB Constitution in 2019, these distinguished members, on my request, had agreed to continue through the transitional period and provide the PCB management appropriate guidance through their knowledge and insight.

“The fact that these BoG members unanimously approved the appointment of the independent members, which now changes the outlook and composition of the BoG, illustrates their respect for the PCB Constitution 2019 and Pakistan cricket at heart. “However, the PCB will continue to benefit from their experience and understanding, by including them as members on the Cricket Associations’ interim executive committees (IECs), which will be confirmed shortly. The first and the most critical assignment of the IECs will be to supervise the registration of clubs so that cricketing activities can resume at the grassroots level.

“I welcome the newly-appointed independent members to the BoG, especially Alia Zafar, the first female independent member, which is a giant step forward in enhancing the PCB’s governance structure. “The four new members bring with them a wealth of diverse knowledge that will only improve the professional outlook and working of the PCB. These four individuals are highly respected and proven performers in their respective professional lives and we aim to benefit from their knowledge in our efforts to improve our governance,” Mani added.
