After winning the first two T20Is of the four-match series against West Indies, it was a chance for Pakistan to seal the series by winning the penultimate game as well and get an unassailable lead, but that was not the case as the home side cruised to a seven-wicket win in the third T20I in just 14.5 overs, to keep the series alive.
Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur believes that with the loss, Pakistan has put itself under pressure to win the series now.
“WE NEED TO FIND SOME BALANCE WITH OUR BATTING. FOR US, IT WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CLOSE OUT A SERIES AND WE DIDN’T DO THAT. WE’VE PUT OURSELVES UNDER PRESSURE, WE CAN’T LOSE THE SERIES, BUT STILL, WE’VE PUT OURSELVES UNDER PRESSURE FOR TOMORROW.,” ARTHUR SAID.
“IT WAS A REALLY GOOD PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN BABAR AND KAMRAN. THEY PLAYED REALLY WELL ON THIS WICKET. WE SET OURSELVES UP FOR 160-165 AT ONE STAGE AND THEN WE LOST SIX WICKETS FOR 45, AND THAT’S A MASSIVE MOUNTAIN TO CLIMB. IN THE LAST FOUR OVERS, WE ONLY GOT 19 [21], THOSE ARE STATS WE CAN’T AFFORD IN GAMES LIKE THESE. SO WE’LL CONTINUE WORKING ON THAT,” HE ADDED.
Pakistan spinner Shadab Khan has been the main trouble for the hosts, as the leg-spinner has been bothering West Indies batting line-up since the start of the series.
The 18-year-old spinner pouched a total of seven wickets in first two games to shatter the Windies batting line-up.
Evin Lewis, who played an innings of 91* in just 51 balls said that he did not have any plans for Shadab but tried to put the youngster under pressure.
“WE DON’T HAVE THOSE MASSIVE BOUNDARY-HITTERS, SO WE’VE GOT TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO SCORE RUNS. TO DO THAT WE’VE GOT TO BE RUNNING HARD BETWEEN WICKETS AND WE’VE GOT TO BE PUTTING THE OPPOSITION UNDER PRESSURE THAT WAY.
“I’VE BEEN STAYING POSITIVE. THE FIRST TWO GAMES, YOU KNOW, RUN OUT, I HAD A LONG THINK LAST NIGHT. I DIDN’T PUT PRESSURE ON MYSELF. THAT’S HOW THE GAME GOES AT TIMES. I KNOW ONCE I BAT AT LEAST FIVE OVERS, I WILL GET THAT SCORE,” LEWIS SAID.
The fourth and the final T20I of the series will be played on Sunday, April 2 in Port of Spain where the home side will look to win the game and end the series with none of the team getting a lead.
