"We tried our best but unfortunately, the result did not go in our favour" : Sarfaraz Ahmed

M Rizwan is joining the A team from tomorrow and will not be part of the 2nd Test.

Fakhar Zaman and Usman will stay with the team and be part of the squad for the 2nd Test.

Quotes from Sarfaraz Ahmed presser:

"Our bowlers were very tired as it was hot and humid and we had bowled 30 overs that day so we didnt enforce follow on"

"When we came to the ground today, we thought that we would be in a good position to win the match and I suppose this is the beauty of Test cricket"

"Whatever praise one gives to Usman Khawaja is not enough he batted really well and carried his team with him"

"He played shots against our bowlers which a batsman would be hesitant to do on the 5th day, such as sweeps and reverse sweeps"

"Of course it is frustrating but in the end we got into a position [where we could have won] and this is the beauty of Test cricket where a match heading for a draw becomes a thriller"

"We tried our best but unfortunately, the result did not go in our favour"

"We played Wahab because he had pace and we thought we would get reverse swing advantage so we went with him"

"As far as bowling changes are concerned they were correct and we used Hafeez also, he is bowling again after a change in his action so there was some difference in pace; so whatever bowling we could get him to do we asked him to do; Basically we brought him into the team for the opening slot. He was our 5th bowler and what we tried to do was to bowl our main bowlers first"

"Bilal bowled well in the first innings but the ball didnt do much for him in the 2nd innings"

"I am satisfied with my bowling changes but we just couldnt get the wickets at the right time which is why it appears that the bowling changes were not good"

"If you look at Babar Azam's career so far, he started off at one down position then if you look at the England series, he was also batting at number 5. This was where we went in with 5 batsmen, keeper and 5 bowlers but here we are playing with 6 batsmen. I feel that he is in the early stages of his career and he is learning and day by day he is getting better and I feel we should not put so much responsibility on him in Test cricket. More he plays, his batting position will move up in Test cricket"

"We put more responsibility on Asad Shafiq and Haris Sohail as they are senior batsmen"

"As far as Shadab's inclusion for next match is concerned, we will first check the team combination and then decide"

"Yasir was playing Test match after almost one year, and the pressure in Tests is different, even though you have been playing domestic cricket"

"So we need to give some margin to Yasir Shah as he played this Test after a long time"

"I am hopeful that he will make a comeback [do better] in future matches, and we do not need to look down upon his performances and he should be supported as he has put in some good performances for Pakistan in the past"

"Everyday in Test cricket you have to bowl in a different way; if you look at Bilal's bowling in the first innings, he was getting bounce and he had good pace and he got wickets too; but when you speak of bowling in the 4th innings, you need to bowl differently. We have spoken to him and he is new to Test cricket too. He does not have that much experience and he has also not played that many FC matches also. So its a learning experience for him to know that on the 5th day, you will put batsmen under pressure if you bowl maidens. He needs to be supported as he has shown he is a good bowler and can do well for Pakistan in the future"

"The idea was to start the bowling with Wahab and get him to put effort and then get Abbas to bowl longer spell"

"Yes we know that sometimes you do well and other times you dont but we came back into the game due to 3 wickets by Yasir Shah also and he is our main bowler and needs support"

Oh wow according to him selector forgot to announce the opener in the squad so Hafeez was recalled. Don’t think azhar ali will bat at one down in south africa because he will be an opener. If we have to progress we have to decide the playing order not have some star boys like Amir and Hafeez and give what they want. We can only flipflop between spinners and fast bowler when playing outside Asia and in Asia rather flip flopping the same type of player to give one player the cushion so he can have bloated numbers irrespective of performance

The bad performances are piling up Saifi... if the next test Pakistan loses or draws he should hand in his resignation.

Here’s a plan. When Usman is on the crease, don’t speak Urdu. Fakhar should tell Yasir the plan and how to bowl in Pashto.

Things will only get worse when you have a delusional captain

They should also take courses in Mandarin fro such situations. No professionalism whatsoever.

Drop Babar simple, he should not be learning on the job. Look at prithvi Shaw, he is not playing bc be is Young. He is playing bc be deserves that spot. There are people in domestic who earned that right but Babar didn't . Once again performing in loi gives you automatic rights to test spot.

Sarfraz has been a disappointment. He needs to take some time off, Pakistan needs a new leader, preferably a bowler.

Yeah tried our best by spreading the field and protecting the boundaries from the word go as if we were only defending 263. Utterly shambolic captaincy. Maintained zero pressure on the batsmen as they just kept rotating the strike with ease.

With 450 plus runs to defend, and 4/5 men constantly around the bat, it is impossible for the batsmen to keep defending even against part time spinners. The relentless pressure from the field setting makes batsmen do funny things and eventually they succumb to that pressure even if the pitch is totally lifeless.

Here we had the street fighter as captain who looked anything but a leader. Timid with his tactics, clueless with his reviewing and pig-headed with his postmortem of the game.

He should be ashamed of his own performance (keeper, batter and importantly Captain).
Captaincy infact costed us this game.

Lol, Sarfaraz decided to magically attack in the final sessions and the results were in front of us with quick wickets.

He is finding too much beauty in the test match above

These are all lame excuses. If you cannot beat this Australian Team in UAE conditions after taking 280 runs lead , you should be ashamed . Stop this nonsense Sarfaraz , you are one of the players who is passed prime , and are hurting Pakistan. Please retire.
