What's the weirdest cricketer names or nicknames you've heard?

Forget the weird names thing, that kit looks amazing!

Get rid of those weird patterns on the shoulders and it would be perfect.

1) Sachin Baby
2) Washington Sundar
3) Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas

Anymore anyone? :uakmal

It's one of those where Pakistanis make fun of Indian and Sri Lankan names while they make fun of ours.

My pick is Ryan Sidebottom - most unfortunate surname. :ishant

Fakhar actually translates to "pride"in English... it's not his fault white people have trouble pronouncing his beautiful name

It's a beautiful name. Ive already seen a couple of new babies here with Fakhar Zaman's name:) But it's the way the English pronounce Butt & Fakhar. Imagine them both opening.....

Guys discussing names is ok but please make sure nothing silly or personal written about these cricketers.

Lonwabo Tsotsobe
Washington sundar
Rudi Second
Graham Onions
Napolein Einstein
Sachin Baby
Tatenda Taibu
Murray Goodwin
Junior Murray
Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman
Janneman Malan
Shaukat Dukanwala
and most of the srilankan cricketers names

1) Sachin Baby
2) Washington Sundar
3) Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas

:lol

Dekock
Ramdin

(Especially if you read them side by side)

No offense but most south indian tamil names are funny to us cuz they are just solong and have so many syllables. I dont know how the parents even pronounce their kids names. Vaas had the longest name ever..

My favorite is nicknames given to Indian cricketers by some of their fans.

Fatwin(Ashwin)
No hit Sharma
Dhoniconda(Dhoni)
RAT(Virat)

I was thinking of some of the names certain cricketers have. What do you guys think? Who wins?

  • Kola Burger
  • Keegan Meth
  • Napolean Einstein (an Indian cricketer, apparently)
  • Ryan Sidebottom
  • Jack Crapp
  • Sachin Baby
  • Shaukat Dukanwala
  • Quinton de Kock
  • Burt Cockley
  • Pikky Ya France
  • Graham Onions
  • Jack Leach (imagine being named after a parasite)
  • Kemar Roach
  • Travis Head
  • Trevor Gwandu (Aamir Sohail was legit embarrassed to say his name on-air once lmao)
  • Junior Dala
  • Niroshan Dickwella
  • Washington Sundar
  • Ashley Nurse
  • Josh Tongue
  • Lungi Ngidi
  • Jackson Bird
  • Michael Beer
  • Phil Salt

What do you guys think? Anyone I'm missing here?

I think Kola Burger and Keegan Meth take it. But Napoleon Einstein is one heck of a name too.

There's a WI domestic cricketer by the name of Ronaldo Alimohamed.

He's covered about 3 legends in one name :ROFLMAO:

I wonder what the thought process was of the parents who named their son Napolean Einstein .. no concern about the future mockery they're putting their child through. It's definitely a Tamil thing. Other notables from that region - Washington Sundar, MK Stalin..

Normally south indian (apart from telugu speaking states )names are combination of kid name and father/mother name.Washington sundar name story is quite different though.his father mani sundar , an ex cricketer, recieved financial support from a retired military officer P.D.Washington. so his father kept that guy's name to his son.

I find the nicknames that English players have for each other really weird, such as Rooty, Stokesy, and Cooky. Adding a "y" at the end of the name is meant to be smart or something?

Also, there is nothing weird or funny about Fakhar Zaman's name. It isn't our fault if the goras have a hard time pronouncing Pakistani names.

That's the thing I can understand the other two being native/ancestral names. But 'Napoleon Einstein' is just asking your kid to be bullied all throughout his childhood and mocked in his adulthood lol.

Tugga nickname for Steve Waugh. Never got it.even now there are two stories for that name. One was tug of war resembling his resilience , a reasonably believable story.

Only thing I remember Keegan Meth for is the poor guy was bowling against Bangladesh (I think ?) and the batsman struck the ball which went straight at him before he could even react, smashing several teeth.

You could see the blood pouring from his mouth on the replays.

Napolean Einstein is the best name not just in cricket but in the history of the world.

That makes more sense than his other story.

I saw online somewhere that their other brother that didn't play cricket was nicknamed Korea, after what the Aussies call 'the forgotten war' as he was 'the forgotten waugh' that make me chuckle but not sure if it's true

Its mark Waugh. Nickname is afgan .
the nickname is as he was considered the "forgotten Waugh". It looks weird.may be that's why he will blabber on TV commentary purposefully. His other name 'junior' was fine

There was a Kenyan cricketer named "Deepak Chudasama".

Chudasama is a funny name in Bangladesh because "chuda" is a bad word in Bengali. The name became a meme in Bangladesh back in 90's. :yk

Some more weird names:

Keegan Meth (who names his son "Meth"; seriously?)
Sachin Baby (what kind of name is this? LOL)
Dickwella

Gwandu
Dhoni
Bumrah
Ashwin
Sundar
Washington
Malinga
Prasad
Kumble
Ganguly
Raina
Sreesanth
Balaji

all clown names for me

Actually, the best names are nicknames Indian fans give to their players who is near retirement.

My favorite is Dhoniconda.

Travis Head. I love the meme, Head gets another Head of India.

Or Joe Root, Root uproots india once again.

Its a shame Steve Smith doesn't have a unique name since he too has bullied india more times then I can count

Mickey from Denmark

Edit - lol the name is so strong it was blocked by PP sensors.

Root is a pretty strong slang word in Australia and New Zealand
