Karthik doesn't have it in him to play big innings (he can look good in these cameos and becomes some kind of hero). But if a case comes where you have to take it from 135/3 in 26 overs to 300+ bating first or chasing 320 after 120/3 in 16th over, against good teams even if it is on flat pitch - I don't think Karthik has it in him to do that job! (Attempt at that job! I am not asking him to accomplish that job! Somehow if we can rely on that! Also I am not talking about consolidation job of taking team from 20/3 to respectable 220+ It is about carrying on the good job done by Top 3) This is not a case of cameos of 30 (12) targeting some weak bowler/choking opposition-captain, it is a case of scoring just more than run a ball for a long period against different bowlers/ball changing its hardness/pitch changing its nature slightly - I am not talking about sluggish/turning pitches (not that Pant has developed that maturity - like old Yuvaraj) but at least he is the best we have discovered so far (he has two quality test innings to show!)
So Karthik should be in the team as WK coming at No.7 to do some kind of finisher job (though he is not too great in that either!) if we don't have any other better option for WK... But with Dhoni in the team and also Pant as the bright prospect, it is really ridiculous to rely on Karthik this much (just as pure batsman, even without any bowling or special fielding skills) as if we don't have any batting talents in our country! This is what bamboozles me!
