"We're playing a lot of white-ball cricket, getting into Test mode will be a challenge" : Babar Azam

Pakistan captain Babar Azam thinks that getting into the mode for Test cricket will be a challenge as some of the players have been playing consistent white-ball cricket.

Pakistan will take on Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series from tomorrow at the Ch. Zahoor Ahmed Cricket Stadium in Chittagong. Pakistan have also announced a 12-man squad for the opening Test.

The 26-year-old said that Bangladesh is a tough team in their home conditions whether they are playing with a full-strength side or not.

"We are constantly playing white ball and getting into Test mode will be a challenge. There is not much time to prepare after the T20 series, but those coming from Pakistan were playing domestic games," said Babar in a virtual presser.

"Bangladesh are playing at home, whether the host players are senior or junior, they are well aware of the conditions. We have to understand the conditions and perform, Bangladesh will be a tough competitor to beat," he added.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam opined that his troops will make an impact in the second ICC World Test Championship and try to gain valuable points against Bangladesh.

"We have quite a settled side now with a lot of experience, we will make an impact in this WTC as our team has been consistent since the start of this year," Babar said.

Pakistan are without a batting consultant/coach and Babar believes they are missing one on this tour. "There should have been a batting coach but the decision is up to the Pakistan Cricket Board."

Babar was asked about his form and the no.7 ranked batter said that it is impossible that his bat will score runs every time.

"It's not written that I will be scoring run every time, others are also here and they showed responsibility in the T20I series. I will look to perform in these Tests," he added.

Getting into Test mode should be easy considering how poor Bangladesh have been at Test level.

There have been a lot of T20 games over the past few months. Good to see Test back.

They are not playing test for first time ,every team go through from T20 to Test .

What a hilarious statement!

You are opening the batting in T20s with two anchors (Babar and Rizwan) who play 60% or the innings for most times. Yet it will be hard for them to go back into Test mode :)))

Pakistan plays far too few tests and the problem has been especially bad the last year or so.

The batting coach issue is a real one for Pakistan. They need a specialist.

Pakistan plays far too few Odis as well.
Played grand total of 9 Odis in 2020 & 2021.

Pakistan's Test record versus Bangladesh is:

Played 11
Won 10
Drawn 1
Lost 0

This is especially true when you have to bring back dinosaurs like Azhar Ali and Fawad into the fold who are even more aged by the time the next series comes around.

Hope they can get someone like Ian Bell, Michael Di Venuto, Chris Rogers, Brad Hodge or even Neil McKenzie. Don't think Mohammad Yousaf would get the chance right now. Ramiz rates Peter Moores very highly and recommended him back in 2007 and 2011 I believe as well.

Your sarcasm aside, Pakistan is the only top team where the big players play all random T2OIs. So it's indeed a challenge for them. Pak also plays a fraction of matches against the Big 3

No wonder he was making excuses.

Pakistan looks like a really poor team. The spinners are associate level. Absolutely pathetic decision to drop Yasir.
