Pitting a joint West Indies-Australia team pre-1970 test team against a joint West Indies-Australia team post-1970.West Indies and Australia all-time XI's were the greatest of all countries in test cricket.Wanted to make a comparison of the joint teams of different eras.
Pre -1970 West Indies-Australia
Arthur Morris
Trumper
Bradman (C)
Headley
Weekes
Sobers
Miller
Benaud
Tallon (W)
Davidson
Lindwall
Post-1970 West Indies-Australia
Greenidge
Hayden
Viv Richards (C)
Lara
Ponting
Greg Chappell
Adam Gilchrist (W)
Shane Warne
Malcolm Marshall
Dennis Lillee
Glen Mcgrath
Strangely the pre-1970 team may have the slender edge. The pre-1970 team has 2 of the greatest allrounders in Sobers and Miller as well a great left-handed paceman in Davidson who was a good batsmen.Post-1970 has more explosive batsmen with likes of Viv and Lara ,but technically pre-1970 were marginally better.Post-1970 had a marginally better bowling attack. In the end maybe Bradman and Sobers would make all the difference.
Post-1970 team would be more professional with more match-winners.
With a gun on my head I would choose pre-1970 all-time XI. A remarkable lesson that even before fifty years ago test cricket was at a high ebb with atleast comparable standards as today.
