Pitting a joint West Indies-Australia team pre-1970 test team against a joint West Indies-Australia team post-1970.West Indies and Australia all-time XI's were the greatest of all countries in test cricket.Wanted to make a comparison of the joint teams of different eras.

Pre -1970 West Indies-Australia

Arthur Morris

Trumper

Bradman (C)

Headley

Weekes

Sobers

Miller

Benaud

Tallon (W)

Davidson

Lindwall

Post-1970 West Indies-Australia

Greenidge

Hayden

Viv Richards (C)

Lara

Ponting

Greg Chappell

Adam Gilchrist (W)

Shane Warne

Malcolm Marshall

Dennis Lillee

Glen Mcgrath

Strangely the pre-1970 team may have the slender edge. The pre-1970 team has 2 of the greatest allrounders in Sobers and Miller as well a great left-handed paceman in Davidson who was a good batsmen.Post-1970 has more explosive batsmen with likes of Viv and Lara ,but technically pre-1970 were marginally better.Post-1970 had a marginally better bowling attack. In the end maybe Bradman and Sobers would make all the difference.

Post-1970 team would be more professional with more match-winners.

With a gun on my head I would choose pre-1970 all-time XI. A remarkable lesson that even before fifty years ago test cricket was at a high ebb with atleast comparable standards as today.

That is when comparing only Windies and Australia and honestly the game developed far more post 70s, so it's just hype. India, Pakistan and South Africa addition have made the difference quite big enough.

I agree. However is it not fascinating that the 2 greatest sides combined were arguably stronger before 1970?Agree?

Who would win pre-1970 or post-1970 West Indies-Australia?

Do come here Junaids MMHS Robert Nostalgia but still fascinating.

Honestly speaking, the pre 70s main bowling attack is nowhere close to the post 70s bowling attack.

Warne vs Richie
Marshall vs Miller
McGrath vs Lindwall
Lillee/Ambrose vs Davidson

The only reason you are highlighting the pre-70s better is because you have got Bradman in there and post 70s don't have a good fifth bowling option.

For rest all spots, I dare say the post 70s are better.

I'll go with pre- 1970 era, but Benaud as my Captain and probably, Walcott as WK.

Gary Sobers ? Belonged before 1970. No impact?

Where did I said no impact. I mentioned him also- the fifth bowling option. Bradman and Sobers. But for rest all, I think post 70s is comfortably ahead.

The post 1970 team should be
1. Hayden
2. Ponting
3. Richards
4. Lara
5. Chanderpaul
6. Waugh
7. Gilchrist
8. Warne
9. Marshall
10. Ambrose
11. Mcgrath
12th man Walsh

Pre-70s

Walcott (wk)
Trumper
Bradman
Headley
Weekes
Sobers
Miller
Benaud (c)
Davidson
Lindwall
Gibbs

Post 70s:

Greenidge
Hayden
Richards (c)
Lara
G. Chappell
Ponting
Gilchrist
Warne
Marshall
Lillee
McGrath

So, I guess only a couple of changes in the first team from your selection, while the post-70s team virtually selects itself.

The pre-70s team is more balanced, but I think the bowling attack of the latter team has too much firepower for them not to prevail.
