The power ability with Hasan continues to impress. Strike rotation is lacking but genuinely a good power hitter and not a complete hack like Asif Ali. I hope he gets some FC matches in this season to iron out some of his technical issues.

His technique is not bad to deal with the short ball but he failed in NZ.
Yeah he was very raw then but also scored the fastest Pak t20 100. What will adding muscles do for his technique though? He is still very young, muscle mass will come naturally as he matures.

His strike rotation has been great with Talat, probably was a Riz issue with the no run dramaybaazi

Not batting out your full quota of overs is a criminal offence in white ball cricket.

Windies have only themselves to blame if they lose today. One over can mean 10-15 runs during the death overs

Muscles can always help. Look at Glenn Philips, Stokes etc and compare them to our single paslis.

Hasan's left foot always goes towards mid wicket. He's not able to control or impart power to his off side shots

lol WI... might have just dropped the match.

Hussain Talat... it's shocking how extremely limited players like him can get into the side. Literally looks like he can't hit a six if his life depended on it.

He is usually late against pace. Even in domestics, most of his runs against pace are scored behind the square.

I stand by what I said. He is a limited player. In his T20 career he has just 104 sixes in 173 innings while mostly batting as a #3-4 batsmen.

I don't really buy into as a player who is not good enough of a bowler to qualify as a proper all rounder.
I agree but if he continues to play like this he is much better than the likes of Happyheart, Chacha anyways. Not sure why he didn't bowl though.

Hasan Nawaz with a deserving match winning runs. Carried the team under pressure and got them over the finish line. Proper finisher innings and as a debutant. Extremely impressive stuff.

Two average sides pulled off a good close match.

Pak have to look at their team combinations. Three specialist bowlers and banking 20 overs from Agha+ Faheem+ Ayub + Talat is not going to work against better teams.

Am all for trying out players but ODIs need 5 proper bowlers and then support to cover guys having a bad day.

Surely Dew gave some edge but both batters were inexperienced .. One on debut other playing second odi in 6 years.. Kudos to them for soaking up pressure.. Both have shown ability to increase pace of innings.. Hussain Talat Justified his Selection ahead of happy heart

Hussain Talat like Salman Mirza has been doing very well in the domestics.

I’ve always rated him. He’s a solid batter. Just not liked much because he’s from Lahore

Yea it seems like that.
I am surprised because WI venues are not known for that.

Even after D/N ODIs were introduced in the Caribbean , they mostly played day matches against the top 8 sides. D/N have been less than 20% of the matches , so it's not been observed as much.

But when England toured last year, all were day nighters and chasing teams had a decisive advantage.

Excellent partnership between Nawaz and Talat

If only they could just rebuild the ODI side without Babar and Rizwan as well.

They are washed and crap
Riz/ babar layed the foundation of this chase after your favourite overhyped saim failed.

ODI is best formats for Rizbar .

:kp

he was chosen in wrong format i guess.. ODI is right one for his game

Great win for Pakistan... WHat a knock from Hasan... Boy is having a dream run atm....

Heartening to see Nawaz and Talat get a 100 run partnership to finish the game. This is very rare for Pakistan. Well done lads.

Riz-Bar certainly need to bat with more intent.

However, Hassan and Talat (should not overreact after one good knock) were partly able to bat like that because of the solid platform laid by the top order

What solid platform? They had more then 140 runs to chase down? Wdym?

Hasan Nawaz shines on debut, Hussain Talat marks return as Pakistan clinch 5-wicket win in the first ODI against West Indies

Debutant Hasan Nawaz and returning all-rounder Hussain Talat steered Pakistan to a thrilling five-wicket victory over West Indies in the opening ODI of the three-match series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad, on Friday night.

Hasan, awarded ODI cap number 254, remained unbeaten on 63 (5 fours, 3 sixes), while Hussain, back in the ODI setup after six years, contributed a steady 41* (4 fours, 1 six). Their unbroken 104-run partnership for the sixth wicket helped Pakistan chase down the 281-run target with seven balls to spare.

Pakistan were in a spot of bother at 158-4 in the 31st over when Hasan walked in. Hussain joined him at 180-5 in the 38th over, and the duo immediately shifted gears, adding 26 runs in two overs to take the score to 209-5 at the 40-over mark. From there, they unleashed five boundaries and three sixes to seal the win.

Earlier in the chase, Pakistan lost Saim Ayub early, but Mohammad Rizwan’s composed 53 (69 balls, 4 fours) anchored the innings. He shared partnerships of 40 with Babar Azam (47 off 64) and 47 with Salman Ali Agha (23 off 26). Babar also added 47 runs with Abdullah Shafique (29 off 33) for the second wicket.

Rizwan’s 17th ODI fifty kept Pakistan afloat until he was trapped lbw by Shamar Joseph in the 38th over. Joseph finished with 2-65, while Chase, Motie, and Seales picked up one wicket each.

West Indies posted 280 all out in 49 overs, collapsing from 200-4 in the 42nd over. The pace duo of Shaheen Shah Afridi (4-51) and Naseem Shah (3-55) triggered the slide, sharing six wickets in the final phase. Naseem wrapped up the innings with two pinpoint yorkers.

Evin Lewis (60 off 62), Shai Hope (55 off 77), and Roston Chase (53 off 54) led the scoring for the hosts. Keacy Carty added 30, while Motie’s late cameo of 31 off 18 (3 fours, 2 sixes) gave the innings a final push.

Pakistan’s spinners—Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, and Sufyan Moqim—bowled their full quotas, picking up a wicket each and combining for figures of 3-144.

We expect the two senior most players to win games and not just set “solid platforms”.

Playing at 75 strike rate is a job that literally anyone in the lineup can do. The difficult task is to play at a higher pace and put the team ahead of the asking rate.

But as usual, these two do the easiest job and leave the hard part for the youngsters.

Terrible innings by both

True. And then it makes you look back and dig if Babar has ever managed to finish any game and there's really nothing bar 2 or 3 in the entire career. That’s very poor for the supposedly best ranked batter and makes you question the flaws and failure of him and the PCB system to find ways and address it.

Pakistanis, and the current limited brain cells are happy to endorse little things and make them sound big. No wonder Babar has one of the biggest fanbase in the world and he's milking it by soft runs.

Well done to Nawaz and Talat.

WI only took 92 runs from the 20 overs of part-time spin from Salman and Saim, and left themselves below par.

This match just proved what everyone else already knows. That West Indies are an incredibly poor side. Any other team would have knocked Pakistan out after that Rizwan wicket and finished the game.

That said, credit to Hassan Nawaz who played an excellent innings on debut, and Hussain Talat who handled pressure to play a good knock. Eventhough the West Indies bowlers did make it easy for him with those wides and freebies.

Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Talat discuss Pakistan's win against West Indies in the first ODI

Hasan Nawaz:

"It was my debut match, and I have a great feeling about this. I'm very proud of myself that I played a good inning in my debut match and was the Man of the Match.

When we were making a partnership, Hussain bhai said that we should finish the match one over early"

I credit Hussain, who did not let pressure mount on me.

The ground became soft due to the wet outfield. Running was hard and outfield was slow, but we fielded well."

Hussain Talat:

"I think if we talk about a comeback, it is not tough, but I have done a lot of hard work before coming back. I had no choice but to perform well.

His technique is not bad to deal with the short ball but he failed in NZ.

It was his first series in NZ.. he has transformed into this role of middle order batting since PSL 2025 and doing quite well in the opportunities that he got so far. Proving to be a reliable one at no.5, for a long time Pak has been searching for a reliable no.5 who can chase like Inzi does, having said that he has a long way to go , if Pak can give consistent chances to him with more matches he can put his head down and become better and make a name for himself.

Problem for West Indies is that they don't even have another spinner or spin-bowling all-rounder in the squad that they can bring in for the next match. Poor planning considering all three matches are in Tarouba, which is known to be one of the slower wickets in the Caribbean. On top of that the other two matches are day games too, which takes dew factor out.

Pakistan should bring in Mohammad Nawaz for Faheem Ashraf.

Ya that will make pakistan even more deadly with nawaz you get spin and batting as well

Babar and Rizwan both scored a similar number of runs at a similar strike rate.

They scored 100 runs off 133 balls combined. That equates to a strike rate of 75. If they are struggling against West Indies in a bilateral contest, how can we expect them to deliver against the best first string bowling attacks? - that too in ICC tournaments
