What's new

What A Level subjects did you choose and why?

Maths
Economics
Geography
Further Maths

I enjoyed them, and I'm pursuing a career in finance.

Its still not that easy,My friends and cousins are mocking me and saying that getting below an A in these subjects would be a travesty

Ignore them. History is never an easy subject. The positive is that you get double credits, which is better than an A if you're looking to get into a good Uni. What matters more is your SAT score and extra curricular activities - focus on them too!

Are you in AS?

Yes I am in AS.I am not giving SAT because I am not interested in going to US at all.In UK or Australia you need a good grade in English GCSE so thats not a problem

Chemistry
Biology
ICT/History/Geography (this one entirely on the option blocks unfortunately)

Still not there yet but I'm thinking these will be what I choose. Trying to get into medicine somehow, pray for me guys :))

Are you in O Levels right now?

I did my A level during 97-98.
I took Pure Maths (building block for all subjects except language) and Accounting (as I was good at it in O levels)

In LUMS if you want to apply, you must have a good score in SAT-1.It's compulsory there now. Also in IBA it's preferred that you have a good score in the SATs.

Maths
Physics
ICT(worst choice ever, useless subject) I couldn't pick other another after a month, the college said no space left and it's too late.

I'm in the UK and I'm going to do AS/A levels, they've gotten rid of O levels here and there is are new A level courses to go alongside the 9-1 GSCE we do here.

History = essays; ICT = coding; Geog = case studies.

I did Geog, it was quite fun, the AS/A Level revision booklet is really good (I had AQA exam board)

In fact there'll orobably PDFs of revision notes for history and geography.

Either way good luck m8

I appeared for Alevels back in Dec 2015, Accounting, Business Studies and Economics.

Accounting was strong way back from Olevel days due to insane hard work and practice was able to secure A* in O & A level Accounting.

A in Business Studies, while B in Economics.

Did you give your A Levels in Pakistan?

Dropped Maths after As Exam in June 2015. It was useless for me and where I was headed to, Either way.

Thanks. Was always confident in Geography since the start of middle school when I was 9. We actually did Histography which was a weird hybrid and maybe that triggered my interest in both. Took GSCE History and Geography which was a brave move because I was doing poorly in year 8 but As and A*s gave me confidence in my choices. Hopefully the option blocks are kind to me, will probably move schools to ensure I get to pick the subjects I'd like.

Another option would be Psychology which would be interesting to take. Would go well with Biology I think.

How did you find Further Maths? I thought it was hella hard, specially the Mechanics part.

Mechanics tou samaj hi nahi ati thi, somehow or the other I managed a B in FM. The only B I had. Little did I know that I would end up doing Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics would be an everyday part of my life. LOL

Guys, always pick A-levels based on your strengths first and foremost whilst doing something you will love/enjoy. And if you will go beyond that then make sure it's something which has great prospects, e.g subjects which can get you into Optometry, Pharmacy or Dentistry.

Anyhow this how my journey escalated:

Average GCSE's with only 2 A's in RE and English; those subjects came naturally but I did not pick them at A Level. My A Levels were:

Physics
IT
Psychology

:yk

Did terrible, then did a diploma which is now known as the extended btec worth about 3 A Levels (no exams but coursework assesments) in aerospace eng.

Turns out the top 10 uni I wanted to go to does not accept that course so had to do entry exams and get 80%+ in modules involving math/physics besides other subjects such as programming, material science and chemistry which we also had to take.

I just missed out on qualification in a few of the exams so had to retake them in the next academic year and then finally after like 6 years of leaving school managed to get into my uni of choice.

Am not naturally gifted in science/math and also have NVLD, dyscalculia, dyslexia and dysparaxia; didn't know this until recently so guys I think if you feel there is an issue get it checked out to get support, I was stubborn and didn't until my final semester in uni. Anyhow those were major obstacles and other turbulence in me personal life but I never quit and now am on the brink of graduating god willing, so to all those who are not straight A students, do not have adequate resources to pay for tuition and always find themselves on the ropes if a bum like me can do it and I am the bare'est among all bums :))) trust me you"ll be fine so long you NEVER GIVE UP and am not saying it's going to be easy because it won't be, you will fail most of the time but what will decide your sucess is how many times you are able to get up and keep moving forward, it's how winning is done my brothers/sisters !

Sounds like some journey Shazzy!?! Good on you for never giving up.

So are you studying Aerospace Eng in uni right now??

Cuz man I'd love some guidance since I started my 1st semester in BEng Aerospace in Melbourne.

Best advice I can give you is to get everything done on time and not leave it to the last minute! in engineering it can be very hard to catch up if you leave things too late and want a top grade, manage your workload effectively and have a good balance between relaxing and studying because you need a good outlet as well. Always seek help and don't be shy to when you're stuck on a problem because it's not going to solve itself out and often book's/internet do not always have the answer and your problems are more likely to be solved following the notes given to you by uni and getting help from tutors/professors who are responsible for your module

I done:

Maths
Biology
English Literature & Language

Personally I really enjoyed what I studied but the only regret I have is not doing Economics because I always had feeling that it was a fun subject to learn about, and I would've liked to do it as a joined degree to what I'm currently doing but then again I don't feel like I'm missing out on much but at the same time I do.
