These are some of the best fast bowlers India have produced. What are the bowling equivalence of them across the world?

Where exactly does current Indian pace attack and historically rank compared to the other nations in the world?

Thoughts?

Kapil Dev - Heath Streak
Bumrah - Malinga
Shami - Dominic Cork
Zaheer Khan - Chaminda Vaas
Javagal Srinath - Chris Martin
Ishant Sharma - Kyle Mills

As many of us agree, India is not necessarily known for fast bowling. Overall I think they rank below West indies, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, England, New Zealand at #7. They're better than only Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

But things are brighter for India now. They have 2-3 bowlers who can bowl over 140kph consistently.

Kapil Dev- James Anderson( both medium pace, great leaders of pace attack and longevity)

Jasprit Bumrah- Better version of Malinga(Malinga was never a test material)

Mohammad Shami- Stuart Broad (both hit the deck, rythm bowler)

Zaheer Khan- Chaminda Vaas

Javagal Srinath- Heath Streak

Are they better than Sri Lanka? Maybe in 10 years from now once Bumrah, Shami have both retired and the younger lot is doing well. Right now you’d have to include Bumrah and Shami to say India is better than Sri Lanka (which it is) but I don’t like including people in the middle of their careers.

Bright future though. India should overtake Sri Lanka in 5 years once Shami has retired and Bumrah has completed his peak. Overtaking the top 7 will take time though. At least a few decades.

Good news is we have a bright younger lot incoming, I’m a fan of Nagarkoti and I hope he delivers on the big stage.

India all time ODI bowling attack is solid IMO.

Jasprit Bumrah
Mohammad Shami
Kapil Dev
Zaheer Khan
Kuldeep Yadav

Left arm pace, death over specialist, ODI bowl master and a lion hearted Jatt.

Are they better than Sri Lanka?

Yes because among retired test class pacers we have Kapil, Srinath, Zaheer while they have Malinga, Vaas and Malinga hardly played tests (same with Kulasekara). Beyond those two Sri Lanka don't have too many quicks while India always had serviceable guys like Prasad, Ghavri, Prabhakar, Agarkar some of them better in ODIs. Amar Singh and Mohd Nissar were supposed to be good but they didn't play much.

Very true. I’ll put India ahead of Sri Lanka

Kapil=Broad (Not talking about style but longevity, effectiveness)
Srinath=Gough
Zaheer=Vaas
Bumrah=too early to comment but he has ATG potential
Shami= in tests will end up in Bob Willis class if he can continue his form for another 3-4 years, who knows even like Andy Roberts?
Ishant= the way he has improved, reminds me of Caddick

Tough to rate those who are still playing, we never know how future will unfold. They may hit some crazy peak, decline or worst case suffer some career ending injury.

My equivalents of Bumrah, Shami and Ishant are hopeful ones and I would love them to come true, retired quicks' equivalents are more concrete. One big advantage for current lot is they are part of a pretty good overall attack, a luxury Kapil, Srinath, Zaheer didn't enjoy for most of their careers. So they won't be overbowled or used as defensive options, may not take too many wickets but stats will be better, more impact etc.

Overall we are definitely behind WI, Pak, Aus, SA, Eng, ordering the top 5 will require a separate thread.

NZ I am not sure, they have one elite ATG in Hadlee, a maverick in Bond who didn't play much especially in alien conditions. India has better depth but NZ clinches it when it comes to peak performance or if we are doing comparisons of ATG XIs, Hadlee alone tilts the balance in that case. Historically Kiwi quicks have struggled a lot overseas, not just in Asia but also SENA, so there's that.

SL will come next, unfair to rate BD since they are so new to test cricket.

Kapil Dev, a one man bowling line up, there is no equivalent of this man

Srinath, Top 3 ethical fast bowlers of the 1990s

Zaheer, 2nd greatest left arm pacer ever in test cricket

Mohammad Shami, greatest of this generation, we are proud of him

Jasprit Bumrah, fastest to taking 5 wicket halls in SENAW among all Asians, could have retired as greatest of this generation if injuries did not kill him as a bowler. Nonetheless we still have Mohammad Shami so the throne remains secure in India

Atul Sharma, fastest bowler in the nets ever

Its a great legacy. Haters will continue to hate but it is what it is.
