Its been a tough few months but has Pakistan taken the right approach in its foreign policy towards India?

War is not the answer so Pakistan has taken right steps to deescalate tensions with India. The next step is to show sincerity in taking action against extremists.

Weak and hypocritical. Reactive not proactive Imran Khan seems confused and apologetic.

I think it has been very effective and had the desired results

India was war mongering and then we shot down their jet(s) and then they immediately started talking peace.

Moral of the story, laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi suntay.

I approve and think its the right way of dealing with India. We don’t need to be swept away in emotions, or feel the need to show the world we can pretty much handle any aggression towards us.

We need the world in our corner and should maintain our image as a peace promoting nation. Let India do the war mongering and show their negative side to the world.

First, Pakistan's foreign policies were dictated by military for the obvious reasons and those policies were needed due to geo-politics and the need of the hour. Burger Kids will lay all the blame on Pakistan but anyone with little sense of geo-politics would understand that it isn't true.

Now the policy has changed and the only way to achieve desirable results, Pakistan had to rid itself of corrupt politician mafia family and needed someone who would, with the help of Army, stand up for the nation and absorb the pressure of foreign diplomats, hence Imran Khan, he has done exceptionally well in dealing with foreign diplomats and Media, and demonstrated a perfect example of what a country like Pakistan was lacking.

Pakistan has systematically dismantle MQM influence in Karachi in Past 5 years, PML-N will be history in next 5 years, PPP influence will be limited to interior Sindh but as more people are educated their influence will be subsided, I already see that in youth of Sindh, as I have spent substantial time of my child hood in interior Sindh and after conversations with young relatives and their friends from interior Sindh.

This is a new Pakistan, both military and government are on the same page, they want to have peace in the region, not only Pakistan but desired parties (Russia and China) in the region like the same.

Pakistan's both civilian and military has done exceptionally well in defending and presenting Pakistan diplomatically and militarily against the aggression of India, not only Pakistan came out as a respected nation but also showed that Pakistan is a responsible nation, which left India standing alone in most of the world's forum.

ISPR seems to have played a big role in our foreign policy it seems

LONDON: Retired senior Indian military commander Lieutenant General (retired) Syed Ata Hasnain has praised Pakistani military's public relations wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), for doing a phenomenal job in disseminating information, connecting with the masses and setting the correct narrative beyond just Pakistani sphere.

The former General Officer Commanding of Indian Army's 15 Corps (HQs Srinagar) was speaking at a seminar organised by International Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) on the subject of “Civil Society in Jammu & Kashmir: democracy vs terrorism”. Rahul Roy-Chaudhry, Senior Fellow for South Asia, IISS, chaired the seminar, which included speakers Dr Shabir Choudhry, President Foreign Affairs Committee of United Kashmir Peoples National Party (UKPNP) and Nitin A Gokhale, Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief, Bharat Shakti, India.

Lt Gen (retd) Ata, one of India’s most decorated military officers, spoke about the ISPR in his opening remarks and then returned to discuss it various times during the questions and answers session. He retired in June 2013 as the military secretary, after 40 years of service in the Indian armed forces. In occupied Jammu and Kashmir, he served as the GOC 15 Corps, headquartered in Srinagar, from 2010 to 2012.

“I give full marks to Pakistan for the manner in which it has played out the information strategy. The ISPR has done an outstanding work for Pakistan,” he said in his speech, claiming that India started losing narrative in occupied Kashmir in the 90s and has not been able to wrest control.

The former Indian general said that in India “everyone knows what the ISI is but nobody knows what the ISPR is” and only military professionals know about the ISPR.

Ata said the aspect of hybrid warfare has not been understood in India and authorities in India have failed to grasp that “the hybrid can only be countered by hybrid and not by conventional means”.

He gave examples of Iraq and Afghanistan where the Americans have spent billions of dollars but failed to achieve the desired results. “Hybrid in Iraq and Afghanistan should have been fought by hybrid, but hybrid was fought by going conventional.”

The ex-general advised New Delhi to take a leaf out of Pakistan’s strategy and use information strategy.

He said India has made many mistakes in its military approach but one of the biggest ones has been about the “the Military-Civic Action (MCA)”.

“The MCA is not soft power. It’s not psychological. In 30 years, Indian has made many mistakes as far as its strategy is concerned but one of the major mistakes is to think that the MCA is a psychological operation, it’s information operation. It’s not,” Ata said.

“If anyone has taught us how to play information operation it’s the ISPR of Pakistan who have done it marvellously, I would like to give it back to them, always. Credit to them.”

Speaking about occupied Kashmir, he said, “From 2012 onwards Pakistan got upper hand and the change of the generation and social media made all the difference. We didn’t know how to carry the information side of things but Pakistan has done it extremely well.”

The former Indian general said that India has been thwarted in IoK by the rise of social media from 2010 onwards, adding that the new generation of Kashmiris used social media to promote “Azaadi” narrative and that has gone against India.

He agreed that the use of hard power had not worked in occupied Kashmir, adding that India would eventually come to give up the muscular power there.

Rahul Roy-Chaudhry told this scribe: “In view of the Pulwama suicide bombing attack that led to India and Pakistan almost coming to the brink of war, this session focused on key issues of governance, calls for independence, and the media in Kashmir, amidst looming parliamentary elections. It provided an opportunity to look forward, not backwards, towards political and regional stability.”

Dr Shabbir Chaudhry condemned illegal detention of Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik and other Kashmiris. He criticised the Indian government for imposing a ban on the JKLF last week.

Chaudhry said the use of hard power by India — such as pellet guns, torture and killings — had played a big part in the alienation of Kashmiris.

Pak is doing the best it can. But these days economy drives foreign relations and thus foreign policy. Pakistan's economy has been a massive underperformer. This is the only reason Pakistan lacks the diplomatic strength to bring India to the table.

Just right. While IK is pushing for talks, the Saffron Terrorist in India is pushing for war. Modi tried to make a move, got his backside handed on a plate.

Leverage is now towards Pakistan.

Difference between an educated leader, and a Chai wala.

Pakistan’s foreign policy overtures are rightly regarded with suspicions in India. If we want peace we have to get rid of irritants on our side. And we have to accept that India is run by fascists who are busy trying to reinvent their past and wipe out their history.
We cannot control what they want to do in Kashmir or in northern India. This is their problem. Much like what we want to do Balochistan or the PTM should be no else’s problem.

India was war mongering and then we shot down their jet(s) and then they immediately started talking peace.

Moral of the story, laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi suntay.

It has just been a month and you're already rewriting what actually happened.

When did India made a single statement on peace and de escalation.

Its pakistan thats talking about talks and de escalation.

Haven't you been following their DGISPR tweets lol.. it is what they specialize in. Information warfare and deception, and very good at it.

They are so good at it that I initially assumed their narrative was true when the "strikes on trees" news first broke out - since there was literally no information from any other source. It is only after they started writing and rewriting narratives that I took a step back and saw neutral websites starting to doubt them as well... when it became blatantly obvious that it was all lies being sold to the passengers of a sinking ship to prevent panic.

That's funny because the only people changing narratives without and proof are on the Indian side. Let's not talk narrative and talk facts. We KOed a pilot and returned him to India, lets see India prove it destroyed so called terror camps in Pak or downed a Pakistani F16.

It is very shameful to get attacked by a country that is like 6 times smaller than you. No other big country in the world gets attacked in its own terroritory and loses a pilot in the process, that's why Indian air force is a laughing stock around the world.

facts:

1 country closed down their airspace for a month and issued a NOTAM for an entire freaking month after supposedly "winning" an air battle. Why would a country be spooked by such a supposedly "laughing stock" IAF and close their airspace. Doesn't sound like a very confident move..

Rushed the reporters to see fallen trees , but refused access to the actual physical structures rumoured to be hit by the strike until 1 month after the event. Screams of 'repair work'..

Lockheed Martin officially refuted Pakistan sources for spreading false rumours about how it is taking legal action against IAF for making 'false claims' about F-16.

Maybe logical thinking may not be your forte - but for the rest of the world there is enough evidence that Pakistan won this information warfare hands-down and controlled the narrative from day 1 - a lot to learn for the others. The narrative could've been more consistent though.
But what actually happened on the ground was entirely different by the looks of it, which is why India appears smug and comfortable.

Any nation would close their airspace when they are attacked unprovoked, that is only logical, defense of country comes first before anything especially when you have a politicians and journalists talking about nuclear war. What is your point?

Pakistan took reuters to the location of where payload was allegedly dropped only a few days after go read the report maybe it you should go look that up too. Countless western media outlets have confirmed through satellite image that no damage had been done to the compound you claim.

Even with all of India's lobby, power and best wishes couldn't convince any reputable western media to publish your 'narrative' of events, which says alot about how many holes there are in your story.

What happened on the ground is, 1 indian jet crashed inside Pakistan and another crash site in India? evidence is there for the world to see and judge, such a mess and yet Indians think they should be proud of this and claim victory? okay lol.

Multiple international media agencies have debunked Indian fantasies... Heck there are satellite imagery available showing nothing but a few trees knocked down and the structure still standing.

Had India hit anything, rest assured Abhinandan would have been returned to India in a coffin.

India was thoroughly defeated in this mini war.

The only thing India won was the war of lying. They were caught with their pants down infront of the whole world.

Pakistan has adopted the right policy in the sense that peace should prevail and war is never the answer.

However, India's aggression and regular blame games are unfair. Pakistan is a country of 210 million. Pakistan should respond in the same language if India does not stop it's unnecessary aggression.

yeah yeah the world knows what happened ;). Keep living in your DGISPR fantasy world where a chinese jet that has been rejected by the PLAAF has knocked out a Mig and a Sukhoi piloted by a single indian pilot - those claims are comedy gold in the aviation world

the journalists were taken to the place where the trees were knocked down. The alleged training camp remained off limits - al jazeera journalists reported the same.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019...ties-mysterious-madrassa-190227183058957.html

"The madrassa [religious school] there, at the top of the mountain, that is a training camp for mujahideen [religious fighters]," said one resident, gesturing in the direction of the school. He spoke on condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the subject.

"Everyone here knows there is a Jaish camp there, at the madrassa," said another 31-year-old local resident, also on condition of anonymity. "It is an active training centre, they teach people how to fight there."

Others, however, disputed that claim.

Al Jazeera was unable to visit the site of the school.

Historically, our foreign policy towards India has been designed to ensure that there is always hostility between the two countries in order for the military to maintain their supremacy in the country. Cordial relationship between Pakistan and India is counter-productive to the interests of the Pakistani military.

Without our favourite "enemy nation", we will not be in a state of inactive war at all times and we will spend less on defence, which means less perks and privileges for the Generals and Brigadiers who live like kings with no accountability. That is why throughout the course of our history, we have funded and supported terrorism and militancy in J&K.

The narrative that has been sold to the public is that it is a fight for human and Muslim rights, but ultimately, J&K is nothing but a tool for our military to stay in power. If we really cared about human and Muslim rights, we would not have butchered Bangladeshis in East Pakistan.

Nothing much has changed in the so-called Naya Pakistan either. As much as I dislike Imran, I do believe that if it were down to him, he would take steps for improved relations with India. However, our foreign policy - especially our foreign policy for India - is not controlled by Imran and his government; it is the domain of our establishment, which is why we cannot hope for a breakthrough and terrorists like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar, who have openly admitted to attacking Indian soil, will continue to be under state protection.

Complete and utter nonsense.

You are peddling lies and I can only imagine you’re an extremist.
