We knew this was coming with the BJP in charge, how does it change the issue now? Personally short of everyone accepting the status-quo nothing will change now. We can do an India and absorb AZK but I doubt we will.

At the very least I hope the endless whining from up there dampens down in years to come. They've been going at it for 70+ years from both sides, some of us have haddinuff.

What kind of backlash/blowback can we expect from Kashmiris?

We all know force doesn't work against any group people cause it might blowback. Do you guys think Kashmir will really turn into a warzone like Syria in the near future?

After the dust settles I can't see people not accepting status-quo. As sad as that is but it might be the only way but I feel India has torpedoes even the most reasonable suggestions ie open border, accepting status-quo but with more autonomy for both regions (the Musharraf points which Indians were close to accepting).

The Musharraf four points is the only viable plan on the table. That was a huge missed opportunity as only a military dictator could've had the authority to implement such a move on Kashmir. It's very difficult for any civilian government to do so without blowback.

The 4 point solution was garbage cause it's unrealistic, neither side will make such big concessions when there is so much distrust. Even if Pakistan agreed, India would never have signed on.

Only violence will come from stone pelters and Terrorists.

Hoping this passes off peacefully and there is no loss of life.

Do you think the Indian settlers can live there peacefully or will there be fatalities?

What was the guarantee that subsequent pak govt would have accepted it?

In the past, India got away with shelling civilians across the LOC knowing that Pakistan would not do the same as the only people who will die (apart from Indian soldiers) would be Kashmiris.

However, once Hindus from mainland settle in disputed territory, I hope Pakistan returns the favour and does cluster shelling on these new civilians, we will see how long they will last then.

ANY settlement will involve unpalatable and painful concessions.

Only reason Pakistan doesn't shell back is because it'll kill Kashmiris, I am afraid we will do the same now.

People in the south have been living with Muslims for centuries. This will be no different. I suppose there will be a few incidents with chaddi brigade.

What if Muslims from mainland are settled across the LOC? Will Pakistan still return the favour ?

What a lie!!!

Pakistan regularly shells civilians and kills them.

We will see how long will PA take the retaliation.

We have been humiliated once again. It appears that Trump did a number on us.

Perhaps our two stalwarts, Bajwa and Imran, should race back to Washington DC to find out what Trump meant by mediation/arbitration.

Two weeks ago, we were told that the government has secured a huge victory over India by bringing up the Kashmir dispute and mustering the support of Trump who apparently exposed Modi.

The PM was given a hero's welcome by a bunch of sycophants labouring under the delusion that the government scored a major breakthrough in resolving the dispute.

All of our chest-thumping has blown into our faces.

Pakistan gains nothing from shelling across LOC with the intent to kill civilians, civilians who support Pakistan and want to be a part of Pakistan.

Go peddle your lies somewhere else.

Our visionless PM last year.

Or perhaps he was right because he cannot be wrong - Modi is set to resolve the issue once and for all and pretty soon it will be reduced to history books.

It is time for our PM to do what he does best, i.e. start abusing. Only this time, the target is Modi and not Nawaz.

The ppl of Kashmir have to realize that they don’t have it as bad as the Palestinians yet. They and their representatives need to find ways to work with the country that they are a part of. For Pakistan it means AJK becomes a more integrated part of Pakistan as well.
This is not a martyrs cause.

You're very correct. I see no other solution unless we get a full blown rebellion which isn;t likely.

I suspect low level rebellion will be there, because the onus is on the majority to demonstrate that it’s worth it to be a part of India than to dream of an independence that never existed. Unfortunately all I see are ppl talking how this move makes amends for pandits tragedy.

Not sure about the rebellion but India has managed to alienate Kashmiris, something that Pakistan has wanted for decades. Interesting developments this, let’s see what Pak does next.
