Southee is definitely a better choice in these conditons against this opposition. De Grandhomme may strike it lucky once every 10 innings, but he is nowhere near the player he is on the small grounds of New Zealand.

I think Colin De Grandhomme is a good all rounder for NZ conditions but was only playing because Santner is not available in UAE.

They would rather have Santner as their all-rounder, but in his absence they are using De Grandhomme so that Boult and Wagner don’t get overbowled.

Southee is just having his workload managed and is being saved for more favourable bowling wickets - just like Mohammad Amir.
