What's new

What is exactly going on with Babar Azam?

Sanga was a different breed. The guy who knew his game inside out. And he kept adding dimensions to his game. His SR and avg steadily increased from 2005 onwards.
Pakistani players succumb easily to the "superstar" status and start considering themselves impervious to improvement. Sanga of 2005 wouldn't have been able to score 4 consecutive 100s in ODIs that outgoing Sanga of 2015 did because he kept improving.
After a few good performances money and fame ruin Pakistani players. They start thinking they are bigger than the game. They don’t learn from legends like Sanga or Kohli on how to adapt to modern day requirements and continuously improving. They are stuck in their own toxic cycles and mentality which is why they initially peak and then decline until they are eventually discarded.

The example of Umar Akmal and Nasir Jamshed was infront of us, yet Ramiz took it to a next level by his masterplan "make player a brand". Everyone could see how it was going to turn out.

Babar seriously needs to work on his game, his technique, etc. Moreover, his mental block is quite visible. He seems to be physically present but mentally, he is nowhere.

So winning the game today wasn't enough for you

Thats his limit.

130 to 150 score chases with SR of 130.

If you want to start dancing for that, sure.

The moment he has to chase 180 he is a like a deer stuck in headlights.

He has done it enough times but obviously those games don't count. Babar haters will say anything to justify their hate.

Standard Babar innings

In form or out of form

He just isn’t it as a T20 opener.
So he chased the target down in 16.4 overs but maybe he should've chased it down in 5 overs.

Not surprised to hear this from someone who wants Asif Ali to be Captain. In the same game, Asif Ali failed miserably with a low SR. Also Saim (who I'm a fan of) and Mr. Intent Haris also failed leaving Babar to be his dependable self.

When Babar is on song, you will win 8 out of 10 games but when you are depending on tullahs you might win 3-4 games out of 10. Tullahs are good but they need to be paired with proper players like Babar.

No it won't. You live in dream land. Babar's record is so impressive that it would take a lot to bring any of his fans back to Earth. You can jump after a failure or two but his record will still be better than 99% of Pakistani batsmen and even in the World. You'll always be fighting a losing battle so it's better to accept the truth.

I think the problem is Babar makes it look too easy. He chased the target down in 16.4 over without much effort. If someone like Haris had done that after looking like he had sold his left kidney to the devil to survive that long, people like Rana would be jumping for joy!

Babar is once again a lone warrior for Peshawar. Hiim being out of form is hurting them big time, and the only game Babar performed, his team won the game.

Saim, Haris, Cadmore etc are all failing badly.. talat is also once in a blue moon type performer so I don't rate him highly.

PSL is and should NOT be the benchmark.
Which big games/series Babar has won for Pak?

This was their 2nd win.

In my humble opinion.

He has realised that Pakistan awaam only cares about stats... and he has decided to keep scoring runs slowly... timidly till he gets to his milestone (50/100) so his deluded fan base keep supporting him.

My guess is... he wants to take no risks and just score tuns each game to boost his stats... Thats all. His plan is to remain in national view based only on his batting average. He does have the talent to do this... and he will continue to do this... till the bitter end.

first where babar scored.
But it is not as if they are depending on him to score and win. Overall its a below average team. The game which you are talking about was won by the bowlers. Also PSL should not be the benchmark for a player who has been playing for Pak like since 2016.

What most people do not see, or maybe do not want see is his actual quality, or lack of. He is no world beater.

He’s acting like Babar chased 180+

It was 130

PZ scored 200+ when Babar got out for 1 or 2 runs

Hanji

Back down to earth? One game?

I think he needs to take a break from Cricket and go fishing (or whatever) clear his head and then come back

Genuinely though how many technical issues does this guy have? These aren't unplayable inswings that get most prime batters out?

He can't play left arm pace, can't play spin, can't play swing. So what can he play? Right arm straight deliveries that are full pitched and close to being full tosses?

So basically drives 🤣🤣

Babar is a classic example of where raw talent actually takes you in today's cricket due to modern tech/intel by teams to expose your weaknesses. And the role of player development in the PCB system which is likely the worst in the world.

Babar is no baby.
He should know that working on your game/fitness should be the minimum norm.

I feel somewhere down the line he started covering his stumps way more than needed. That has made him susceptible to the incoming ball from left handers, & also removed the power in his pull shot. He needs to not cover the stumps this much & maybe start taking guard outside legs stump for a while.

Which Pakistan player has ever improved himself? That's why there's no longevity in any of the careers- just purple patches.

It's a cultural thing, Babar will not bow down to a certified coach and learn because he will think that he's already better.

Even those right arm pace deliveries he'll struggle against if it is 145+ kph

Imagine looking like the King against Faheem Ashraf but then an absolute ding dong against a proper bowler like Amir!

His 50 against LQ was pretty much runs against emerging debutant, and Harris Rauf who is an absolute joke bowler right now who even Rizwan smashed for fun.

It’s best for him say no to any Pakistan cricket plus league cricket look to get a county contract and just bat and bat for 4 months then come back home and bat just bat in quaid e azam trophy he needs to play 2000 balls of competitive cricket with no scoring pressure and get his game in order
Agreed

Why are some on this thread getting so excited after a PSL innings. He did okay, T20 leagues do not define players - basically a bit of Mickey Mouse cricket on the side.

Forget t20 as we all know he is not a natural opener or player in this format. What ODI or Test has Babar won recently against a top side. I think his last big score was against the mighty Nepal around 2 years ago and last decent performance against a top side probably the 152 chase vs India - even that game was set up by the Pakistan bowling attack to restrict to 150. - Had India scored 175 + the whole team might have choked.

His style of play hurts Pakistan especially in chases when Pakistan need to chase 175+ in t20s or 300+ in Odis. He just isn’t suited unless he develops good strike rotation with a positive mindset.

It might be a cultural thing for the majority but there are a few players who Babar himself played with that should have been examples of hard work paying off!

Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq maintained remarkable consistency in Tests, excelling even in their late 30s and 40s.

Younis Khan, notably, is the only player to score Test centuries in all 11 countries that have hosted the format and averaged over 50 in each innings of tests.

He is also one of the few to have test 100s against all test playing opponents and performed well in tests even away from UAE in his last few years.

Misbahs (test performances only) equalling Vivaldi fasted 100, UAE dominance, memorable innings at Lords and a short few days at No1 ranking are all things this current Babar can only dream off.

Even Mohammad Hafeez reinvented himself in white-ball cricket post-2011, becoming a match-winner in both ODIs and T20Is for a good decade compared to his initial debut years.

Babar Azam, who played alongside all three, has struggled to replicate their mid-late career resilience.

What’s even more disappointing is the fact that Test matches have completely disappeared from the PCBs calendars and these players aren’t playing first class domestic cricket, instead they are focused on making as much as they can in Mickey Mouse league cricket.

Babar needs to focus on first class cricket and PCB need to focus on having more Tests, ultimately a good test player grinding it out in the purest format should be able to adapt to ODIs too. T20s arent doing these guys any favours.
