What's new

What is one habit from this Ramadan that you want to maintain till next Ramadan and for the rest of your life? [Accountability Thread]

Yes mainly Quran and Islamic lectures and duroos. That is what I’ve replaced music with for the most part too. Alhamdullilah.

Sometimes when I’m doing heavy set at the gym temptation comes to push through, usually am able to resist putting on some music, but if it’s still there then I will just put on nasheed like the above.

Being able to sit through discomfort without resorting to numbing the senses in a haram way basically.

Nice.

I may listen to this nasheed if I am working out (it has no music I believe):

Yessir.

Have to tighten the screws, ngl have fallen off a bit last few weeks. Instead of getting stuck in that rut have to maintain the obligatory practices because then they affect the rest of the day.

Yeah. Same here.

I have been a bit loose lately. But, I have been praying the 5 Fard prayers regularly. Alhamdulillah.

Need to add a bit of daily Quran recitation and daily dhikr I guess.

Seems like we might need to (metaphorically) pray janaza of Farhan bhai. I have missed his biting critiques.
He vanished after everyone realized what his original account from many years ago on PP was. He’s had some run ins with the The Dark Knight let’s just say :asghar

But tbf his trauma was a good weekly reminder to stay on course

Oh I missed this, but good he got exposed.

Bechara Farhan bhai

What was his original account ?

Farhan was a bold fresh piece of humanity. I liked his scathing commentary on pakistani and islamic issues. Lot of truth in what he said even though he would sometimes exaggerate. :leo

I have had a bit of a challenging year this year (family issues and my own mental exhaustion from life in general). It has impacted my religiosity and khushoo in salah.

Anyway, despite all the issues, I haven't missed any Fard salah and didn't miss any Ramadan fast. Alhamdulillah. May Allah accept and forgive if there was any shortcoming.

I can run away from many of these issues. But, Islam doesn't give me permission to run away from certain issues. This world is a testing ground I guess.

I personally want to try to keep up with my goals of reading Qur'an every day with translation, had some slip ups every now and then but want to try to stay as consistent as possible and then ramping it up during Ramadan, and then also try to practice daily dhikr more often, and going to most Taraweehs (trying for all in the last 10 days) InshaAllah.

So, it has been one year almost (since the last Ramadan).

How did we do? :inti

I have prayed all the fard prayers. Alhamdulillah. Tried to fulfill other fard obligations to the best of my ability.

Maybe could've done better with sunnah/nafl activities. But, I was a bit distracted throughout the year. It impacted my khushoo a bit.

Hoefully we will all have a great Ramadan and beyond. In sha Allah.

Excitement is brewing.

Ramadan is close.

Can you believe it's almost been a year already?

May Allah swt allow us to experience it and benefit from it.
@Suleiman @sweep_shot
Ameen bro.

Seeing Ramadan come and go is the real “new year” type feeling for me. Looking back at goals spiritual and worldly that we were able to stick to or fell short.

But man time flies… everyone’s been saying that for years, but it feels even faster now lol. Remember making this thread as if it was 2-5 months ago at most.

@finalfantasy7 bhai already keeping fasts outside of Ramadan, may Allah SWT accept it and bless it for him.

That’s the goal for me in and out of Ramadan too, and am sure for many others. Monday and Thursday fast.

Indeed. @finalfantasy7 is racking up those voluntary fasts. Very rewarding. May Allah (SWT) accept and give him reward.

We should also aim to do these voluntary things as much as we can. Voluntary fasts during winter is easy because days are shorter.

I wish I could do more. May Allah (SWT) make things easy for us. Ameen.

Nearly there my dear brothers.

A few things I would like to do.

I have maintained prayers reasonably consistently since last Ramadan. But focus has been on just the fardh prayer. In all honestly I don't pray the Sunnah or Nafl anymore. I also pray mainly at home. I am hoping to increase the sunnah and nafl in Ramadan and pray in congregation.

As a young teenager I studied the deen in some detail but I have forgotten many of the things I studied, i will be refreshing my knowledge by reading my old books.

Ramadan Mubarak in advance to all my dearest brothers on this forum and to their beloved families.

In the Holy Quran, there is a beautiful story about Prophet Yunus (A.S.). He found himself completely alone, inside the belly of a whale, surrounded by the darkness of the night and the deep sea. There was no one to help him. So he simply called out to Allah SWT with a sincere heart.

And Allah answered him and brought him back to safety.

It’s a gentle reminder that no matter how heavy life feels, and no matter how alone we think we are, every prayer is heard.

May this Ramadan bring you that same hope, mercy, and light.

A Practicing Muslim must maintain Majority of the worship and Good deeds throughout the year. Not only during Ramadan.

Yup. 2 more days. Very excited as always.

I have also been sloppy with nafl and sunnah prayers. A combination of various distractions and laziness. Anyway, I prayed all the fard prayers; alhamdulillah.

May we maximize this Ramadan with prayers, duas, dhikrs, Quran recitations, donations, Islamic studies, and of course fasting. May we stay away from sins during this Holy Month.

I know I’ve said this before but it’s still mind blowing that it’s been almost 1 whole year since I started this thread…

Imagine the rate at which we would reach the end of our lives or the final signs of the day of judgement, or the day of judgement itself.

In this last year have seen certain people who I knew well pass away in their 30s and 40s. You never know which prayer or Ramadan or Dua or act of charity or kindness will be your last. This is also why I’ve recently tried to do my best to not bicker on this forum much either… ultimately what’s the point.

On that note, thought I’d share this Hadith from Ibn Majah:

It was narrated from Talhah bin ‘Ubaidullah that two men from Bali came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). They had become Muslim together, but one of them used to strive harder than the other. The one who used to strive harder went out to fight and was martyred. The other one stayed for a year longer, then he passed away. Talhah said:
“I saw in a dream that I was at the gate of Paradise and I saw them (those two men). Someone came out of Paradise and admitted the one who had died last, then he came out and admitted the one who had been martyred. Then he came back to me and said: ‘Go back, for your time has not yet come.’” The next morning, Talhah told the people of that and they were amazed. News of that reached the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and they told him the story. He said: “Why are you so amazed at that?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, the first one was the one who strove harder, then he was martyred, but the other one was admitted to Paradise before him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Did he not stay behind for a year?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “And did not Ramadan come and he fasted, and he offered such and such prayers during that year?” They said: “Yes.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The difference between them is greater than the difference between heaven and earth.”

Great share bro, you summarized it beautifully.

Also shows that as a prophet of Allah he too is human as he acted wrongly initially giving up on his people, but part of that humanness is realizing it’s never too late to turn back. Instead of giving up after being devoured by that whale, he still repented and Allah gave him the chance to redeem himself and fulfill his duty as His prophet (peace be upon him)

Dhikr checklist for Ramadan:

SubhanAllah
Alhamdulillah
Allahu Akbar
La ilaha illallah
Astagfirullah
Subhanallahi wabihamdih
Durood
La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah
Allahumma inni as alukal afiyah
Allahumma ajirni minar naar
La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharikalahu lahul mulku walahul hamdu wahua ala kulli shayyin qadir

Feel free to add more.

The divine entity is always watchful. We will all be judged for our actions one day. That’s why I always say stay humble and count your blessings.

Ramadan Mubarak brothers.

I am going to aim to post on PP less during this time.

But will dip in to stay up to date with world cup.

Wishing my dear brothers a blessed Ramadan.

rpant - i'll let you do some reasearch on that video, both the person recording the video and the women were christians, your not that bright now are you

Ok, now, real business aka the point of the thread.

Habits to incorporate and take forward.

Definitely want to hone in on 10 verses or so plus a day by the end consistently and eventually finishing Quran every month, with understanding of tafsir.

And prayer with khushoo and sunnah and nafil

And at least x2 prayers in the mosque.

Even if I fall short rest of the year, I want to work toward it.

This past year I did pray at least once a day in the mosque, consistently. Alhamdullilah. Time to increase.

ALSO; continue to listen to duroos in the day about salah and ahkam of salah and instances of key moments of the Prophet PBUH and his companions so I am more present and have higher Taqwa during Taraweeh and ofc in fard prayers and mind is not wandering. Want to extract full benefit from each salah in Sha Allah, and I pray all of us do. Ameen.

And instead of caffeine while working (can’t anyway mid fast) or music while exercising replacing them with either Quran recitation with translation or Seerah of Rasullulah SAW or Umar Ibn Khattab RA for that inspiration, and clean dopamine boost;

Restarted listening to these from ep 1:

Also, learning Quranic Arabic (reoccurring phrases and words in the Quran) to increase understanding and thereby increasing mindfulness and Taqwa in prayer esp in Taraweeh so I know what’s being recited rather than just listening and not understanding.

Sheikh today leading Taraweeh could read Quran in multiple Qirat

He recited in the way of Abdur Rehman Sudais

As well as

Yasser Al Dosari and others… for a moment it took me back to my time in Mecca 😌 ☺️

Ma Sha Allah Sheikh Sudais still leading prayer at Al Haram, been listening to him since I was a kid.

Also, with a heavy heart someone I knew for a long time at the masjid who volunteered at the masjid, redirected traffic etc passed away. I posted the post below couple days ago, and this is what I was trying to say.

We never know when our last moment will be. May Allah grant that brother peace and whenever our last moments are may they be when Allah SWT is the most satisfied with us and our sins are erased. Ameen.

Enjoy your Ramadan, enjoy your time with the fam, don’t take petty arguments and grievances irl or online with this person or that person seriously. Life is short, enjoy this beautiful experience given to us by Allah SWT The Lord of All Worlds, let’s make full use of it.

I feel inspired Ma Sha Allah, had to share so I can use this thread for its purpose- ACCOUNTABILITY

I’m not very strong in my faith but i’m trying to establish daily prayers and leveraging Ramadan to get into the habit of praying 5 times. Hopefully I will be able to carry on after Ramadan has passed

Amazing. Ma sha Allah.

Reminds me of my own story.

I was in your position during 2015 Ramadan. I started to pray 5 times regularly from 2015 Ramadan and it hasn't stopped till this day.
