What's new

What is the best food dish of Karachi?

Sort of irrelevant, but I love boat basin. Anything one desires can be found there.

That used to be across the road from my school..... many a bunked classes have been spent at boat basin :babar

many people only think of boat basin and think tikkay karhai which are epic in their own rights but the halwa poori nashta at that place WOWWWW

Tipu agar Zinger ka mood hai, Karachi Broast agar broast ka mood hai, roll inn agar roll ka mood hai, frontier agar makhni handi ka mood hai, tandoori hut agar white karahi ka mood hai.

Hope that answers the question :p

Abhi tak mujhay Dera ki Makhni Haandi sab se achi lagi.Never had Makhni at frontier though, will def try it out next time.

My first morning during every Karachi trip is spent at Boat Basin with my boys!

Dilpasand teen talwar has better halwa puri in my opinion, but I end up going to boat basin every time due to the ambiance.

Students from KGS,Cedar and Southshore regularly do nashta over there. It's really trendy right now.I've done nashta there a fair few times,it is really very good.

Boat Basin is a burger place now? Lmao never thought I'd hear this!

In the morning it's usually swarming with broke St.Michaels kids lol and in evening it's other teenagers and people in 20s looking for a cheap deal

Burger kids go to butlers for nashta :))

Hey who you calling broke

lol sir it's not a 'burger kid' hangout place these days.

:ssmith

You need tissues for those tears?

I hang out mostly at Bahadurabad, but sometimes at Boat Basin too with my Defence-residing friends. It isn’t a burger kid spot anymore.

I guess times have changed. I’m ancient and haven’t been to Karachi in decades so shouldn’t come as a surprise to me. Looks like nowadays Bun-kabab kids go to Boat Basin and Burger Bacha’s go somewhere else. Not sure who is hanging out at Tariq Road and Bahardabaad. Urdu medium school kids ?

I hope your nixor buddies don't label you as "khuaar" for following cricket passionately. Most of the nixor, lyeceum, kgs crowd isn't into cricket.

No lol actually most of my nixor friends also follow cricket, though maybe not as passionately. But yeah most kids generally follow football or maybe no sport at all.

Tariq road and babadurabad usually have kids who live around those areas only.... Or atleast have their schools there...There's this place Alamgir my friends who live there normally go to so I guess that's a hang out spot.

Didn't knew that students of O/A level schools classify each other as burger and non-burger. Here in Punjab, it is a general consensus that all O/A level students are burgers.

I'm broke all the time. No matter how much money Dad sends every month I always end up in a bhikhari like situation in the last 10 days of month.

There are multiple types of burgers as well :))

A City School or Beaconhouse burger is pretty different from a KGS or CAS burger.

Bhai even your burger are paindu infront of our burger... I've personally met some kids from KGS and they have lived in Pakistan their entire lives and they spoke broken Urdu... I was like what the heck :danish

Okay. I have heard a lot about the "maahol" of KGS and LGS :bm. Here we only get to see the burgers of roots, City and Beaconhouse schools.:djb

I will be in Karachi for two days in December. Should I go to Javed or Zahid for nihari?

I have heard that they run out of maghaz/nalli unless you go early morning which is not an option for me. I will be going for dinner.

Any other Karachiites are welcome to help as well.

Personally, I prefer Zahid. Haven't gone in a while though.

I still remember the dhaba down my street, and for RS 5, Haleem, 2 x Tandoor Nan, and 1 ice chilled Coca Cola [figure of 8 GLASS bottle], or if I was really unlucky, RC Cola! It was the food of Gods.

These days, it's all about franchises.

To add, the Bun Kebab at the local phatak was a contender; it was untouchable in terms of recharge food. McDs doesn't hold a candle!

Zahid Nihari near Tariq road is good but there many other places that are equally good. The best Nihari i had in Khi is one near Lasbela chowrangi (towards garden), the name is skipping me but its an old and famous place. Also Mazedar Haleem place has good Nihari as well.

Biryani, Nihari etc are all great in Karachi as they are in other parts of Pakistan I'm sure. However, from a local's perspective, I think what may be uniquely good in Karachi is the quick street food. Bun kababs, paratha rolls ranging from chicken chutney, beef bihari kabab, gola kabab, loaded with garlic mayo with a side of masala fries, varieties of chaats, pakoray, samosay, patties, etc. No matter where in Karachi you are, these items are always on the mark.

Another thing that's always been amazing in Karachi is the Chinese food, likely because quite a few restaurants are owned by 1st/2nd generation Chinese-Pakistanis. From Hong Kong in saddar back in the day, to Yuan Tung in Tariq Road, chinese food is amazing in Karachi.

I never really found any good Briyani outside Karachi. Last time i went to Islamabad, the taxi guy told me about this famous Pilao place near centurius mall. I went there in hope of finding some Briyani like dish but they had some plainish Pilao with Shami Kebab (never seen that combination in Khi). I think we have differed food scene in Khi than the rest of the Country.

I’d prefer Javed but if it is out of the way then go for Zahid which is in city centre and is on similar level. There’s only marginal difference so not worth going to dastageer just for javed nihari on a two day trip.

Make sure you ask for nalli and meat and they give proper portions and not in jald baazi
