I dont know how this became a thing, but i cannot stand it when tests, odis and t20 stats are amalgamated for comparison. :facepalm

its provides minimal actual statistical insight. i have yet to see one cross-format comparison that has ever made me stop to think about something.

Yup - they are deceiving. Unless they control the weight age of formats yo have an apples to apples comparison.

and it kicks out literally everyone who existed pre that format. broadcasters and stuff are guilty of it too, what does it mean if babar has more international runs at 28 than any other pak batter, he plays an extra format.

pakistani social media seems to rehash these kinda stats a lot too.

It is a poor metric when comparing two players on merit.

However, it is a good metric when we are talking about whether a particular player has played enough games to meet the criteria of minimum matches played in international cricket to discuss about his/her achievements.

Don Bradman has zero centuries in t20. I do not know why the boomers continue to bring up his name as a great batter.

The big problem is that not all players play same amount of test cricket. ODI and test cricket allow you to rack up more runs than T20 cricket. Pak batsmen like Babar are always playing T20 cricket so how can you compare with batsmen from previous generations who played test cricket.
They should apply weightage to format, and exclude T20 cricket completely because it didn’t exist 20 years ago if the comparison is across generations.

Cross format stats are valid for players who started career after 2008 T20 WC.
This is good metric to evaluate adaptability of a player across all formats.

This is apt for current Fab4.

T20 format runs should have the least respect given that they don't face good bowlers for more than 2 or 3 overs at most on the trot. Then you get a weak bowler to feed on. If you are really smart you can just pile on runs. Finishers in T20 should have more respect. Successful ones.

Last 2 years Pakistan played 54 T20Is Babar played 51 of them. As a comparison

Pakistan 54 Babar 51 Missed 3 games
Australia 42 Smith 20 Missed 22 games
New Zealand 44 Kane 21 Missed 23 games
India 51 Kohli 27 Missed 24 games

There’s absolutely no point to cross format stats apart from creating random Infographs to show certain batsmen in a good light, or the best or whatever.

We do that a lot with Babar and Rizwan as part of some coping mechanism.

Damnnnn this is really interesting.

But Babar misses out on IPL whereas the others play an absolute crazy amount of t20's there.

Kohli rested many matches during his captaincy.
